1) Make sure it looks good to you. 2) Make sure it's comfortable. 3) Make sure you can afford to buy it. 4) Make sure you can afford to scratch it or lose it. 5) Make sure you try some strap changes before you sell it.

Crazy, I actually had both the Monaco and JLC Moonphase and wound up moving on from both of them because I just couldn't bond with them. I had to laugh at that part of the video since it seemed like you were speaking directly to me! Great video and tips all around.

Thank you! It's pretty cool that the video did resonate with you like that :) Monaco is a great watch but hard one to pull off.

Look, the ONLY rule for actually WEARING a watch is to do what YOU want. YOU pay for it so it is YOUR watch and your RULES. My father, for example, always wore his watch on the underside of his wrist. That is what worked for him. It doesn't work for me. But, I like to wear my watch loose so my wrist can breath. I live in a hot/sweaty climate. Being able to slip my watch up a little to avoid my keyboard - or down to check the time when wearing a long-sleeved shirt - works for me and feels much more comfortable. I dated a girl who wore watches very loose on the wrist like a bracelet. You know what was cool about that? SHE WORE A WATCH!! And it wasn't a sloppy ugly computer watch. It was the advent of the popularity of the DIVE watches that caused the increase in size of modern watches. Most people aren't divers - so they were just 'desk divers' - many with an ATM of only 30 or less. (That's not much of a dive watch!) Personally, I ONLY wear chronographs. WHY? Because I actually USE them - everyday. Some days, I wear two simultaneously if I need to time multiple events! (It's called 'Double Wristing') They are all chronos, but they don't all look the same nor do they function the exact same way. Finally, don't allow ANYONE to dictate to YOU how to love and enjoy something which is important to you. I LOVE my watches! They are my personal FRIENDS! Don't allow others to tell you how to chose your friends or how to enjoy them.

I have been burned multiple times by photography used to sell watches. I must have a dozen watches that have less than an hour of on-the-wrist time because I bought them online and was swayed by the excellent product photos that made the watch look much better that what it looked like in real average light. Some dials are almost illegible in the real world environment, but were photographed to show excellent legibility and contrast. Good rule... look at the watch in person versus the sight unseen online route.

Not a wear-related rule but I make sure I do research on service fees for my specific watch or movement and take that into account in the context of my entire collection's service costs.

wear above the wrist bone - thats how it has been intended to begin with!

2,3& 5 stand out to ( all relevant points , though). Number 5 - I've fallen for & like you all my G-shocks . I even waited a year , git the Casioak & then thought ,'When/ how am I going to wear this?'. My 5610 I only wear going to see how along I've been watching a boring film ( yes, I leave).

Good points. All except the last one. The reason why people all wear submariners is because they just plain look better. More appealing to the masses. It’s not that deep really.

I sold my gorgeous Seiko Manta Ray because I noticed something. As someone who is used to wearing vintage 34-36mm watches, I noticed it took me longer to read the time, noticeably enough to be an annoyance. Almost like my eyes had to travel the hands to reach the end of the dial. With a 36mm, reading the time feels instant.

Prioritize diversity of style over complication or brand. This avoids watches competing for wrist time by having one for dressing up, one for beating around one for an evening out etc.
@chekim24 күн бұрын
Agree! I find complication to be a burden (more fragile, more hassle to winding, more expensive of course) that is useless most of the time. Having a date complication is absolutely necessary, but anything else is just a decoration, if looks better it's great.
@OneManReviews4 күн бұрын
That's a very good rule. Something that I also try to follow for my collection.
@babybeluga23 күн бұрын
@@chekim2 for my own collection I take it a step further and have no complications at all so they’re easier to set when I rotate them.

always about above the wrist bone. lays flat and has better symmetry and surface area. never understand over the bone and choked at an angle against the wrist.

What is your sweet spot for watch diameter?
@AMAMBT5 күн бұрын
@OneManReviews 38 for dress watches , 40 to sport ones and the max is 42 if for dive watches .

@@OneManReviews having 3 dress watches with 36 diameter i still can say they look fabulous, and i still wear them but something about the 38 mm attracts me more , 36 is great when the watch case is made of yellow gold imo so it is not so flashy but for stainless steel 38 is doing better.

I have one: buy the watch not the brand. Outside of a few brands, the watch design, specs and sizing must take priority. Bonus one: Don’t fall into the trap of buying history or legacy because it doesn’t have any value. If it did we would all be wearing Blancpain divers instead of fighting over submariners.
