I agree about the deadlift as a back exercise. I really feel it at my traps, delts and my lower back.

Yes. Entire posterior chain will feel it. That's why it's such a great lift.

What about your "Overrated" episode on Standard Deadlifts? Can we just switch to Trap Bar Deadlifts?

Any deadlift variation, whether trap bar or barbell, is going to play a key role in back muscle development, so you can definitely sub the trap bar deadlift in here. We used the barbell deadlift because that deadlift does a good job of teaching you to screw in your arms and engage your lats (which you can then carry over to the trap bar deadlift too). Doesn't need to be from a conventional stance...a sumo will have the same effect too.
