My fashion tips for my 20-year-old self would be -There's more to pants than jeans! -Try tucking in tops (Finally learnt this by copying a cute mannequin outfit when I was 24!) -Shop for outfits, not items -Your body is great - wear crop tops already! -And stop buying so much clothing! Sleep on every purchase

I'd tell my 20 year old self: when buying a new piece of clothing, think about the rest of the pieces in your wardrobe! Dont just go around buying things you like but which are not cohesive with the things you already own! Your wardrobe is about a personal "collection" and every collection is neccesarily cohesive.

I would tell my younger self to stop waiting to have the so-called "perfect body". There were so many times when I said to myself I can't wear a certain piece of clothing until I gained/lost weight. Of course it's nice to know how you can choose what's the most flattering for you, but at the end of the day I think building your own wardrobe should be something fun, a way to experiment and express yourself. Fashion has no size. 🤍

I would tell my younger self to appreciate the younger body that you have and that you look great!! I feel like I would compare myself to my very thin friends to a point but I look back at photos now and think wow I looked good when I didn't always necessarily feel that way. Feels like kind of a waste to not have appreciated my body as much as I could have. I think this plays in to how you dress and carry yourself.

Thank you for your helpful knowlegde. I do realise that when I wear casual clothes, people treat me like I am a child because I am 5 foot 1 and I am Asian so I am quite small. So I try to wear clothes which are more distinct, and I can tell you that I saw people treat me differently, I hate the way they treat me because of my clothes, but sadly I cannot change that. I cannot agree with you more about the society respects well-dressed person, my mind just blows when you mention this because it is so true

I second that! I am 5 foot 3, not all that small, but still tiny enough for looking like 16 yo (while having 25) when dressed very casually with jeans and sneakers. I can absolutely see how different people act. I spotted the difference already in high school when I was a teen, clothes really sneakily change so many things in people's perception of others.

Bethany - you're like my style big sister that always offers pearls of wisdom! As someone who turned 20 a year before the pandemic began, and now spending my early 20s in the midst of the pandemic, everything seemed to turn on it's head.. Learning about style and discovering my own personal style with your help has really helped root me in something I enjoy and find breathing space in! ❤️ Even though I'm only 22, I think one thing I would tell my younger self 20 years ago is to take time with the process and to enjoy it - not too jump in too quickly to style trends or just mindlessly listening to other style influencers and buying into what -they say- I MUST have! And being thoughtful about my purchases, to not let style envy of -someone else's middle of their journey-, cloud my judgment of what my beginning should be like! To that end, I'm so thankful to have discovered your channel a year and a half ago - your content is always so refreshing and heartfelt, definitely one of my favourite channels (one of the rare channels I leave comments on!). I would tell myself in past to try out different kinds of clothes as much as possible. It's really hard to tell what kind of clothes fit me or what color compliment me unless I go through many trials and errors. I've had a bunch of clothes I thought would look pretty on me but did not end up wearing them, I don't consider them as waste of money but it's more of a tuition to learn what kind of clothes fit me.

I am 20 years old and just found this video, in a time where I am figuring out my personal style. I would like to thank you Bethany and everyone that has posted helpful advice on this video!!! 🥺💗✨Ever since I was 14 my style has always being gravitating more towards elegant and vintage chic, mixed with casual lol if that makes sense .😅Especially in this day and age with social media I felt a lot of pressure that I do not dress and genuinely like most mainstream trends on myself as it does not represent me or make me comfortable ( I think those trends look great on others and style is something entirely personal) but this video helped me understand even more that it is okay to have my own unique style. Every person should dress in clothes that are comfortable, make them feel like themselves and most of all HAPPY! Thank you, Dearly Bethany💌

Loved the video 🥰 I guess something to take in consideration as well is the fact that when we’re younger and developing our style, we might take other people’s opinions, seeking for that external validation, when in reality it should start within ourselves, it’s a hard process and the majority of time it comes with age. Experimenting with clothing shouldn’t feel “weird”, it should just be a process of getting to know yourself :)

I'm 23 and I've been learning english since I was 16. When you mentioned the quote about not comparing your beginning with someone else's middle I instantly thought about the languague journey. Because when you are a beginner or even when you are an intermediate learner we tend to compare ourselves with people who has a higher level in certain language. But the truth is that we don't know anything about their journeys. And we see pretty much just the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure that behind that perfect English there is a lot a hard work and discipline. And I think the same is true for style and fashion. We should focus more on our own journey. Thanks Bethany :)

While I don't actually regret my fashion choices throughout my life (I feel like they were made according to my age and my budget), I sometimes feel like I'm always behind everyone else. I could always do better, like everyone around me who is 25+. And that's just not true, everyone has their own timing and goes through their own learning process. I would probably tell myself to love herself more and be confident. My 20 year old self is insicure and unconfident.

I LOVED this video, i feel like I’m still on my journey and I’m in my mid twenties but the advice I’d give to my 20 year old self would be don’t be afraid to step out your comfort zone and experiment, try new places and go for more staple pieces. Being 4ft 10, it’s always been difficult but there are a lot more brands out there to suit being shorter than there were when I was 20, which is amazing!! 💓

As an Arab girl in the middle east, the college is an important thing to wear elegant and not casual things, and if a girl wears the same clothes every day, they criticize her,so shopping for clothes every season was a stressful thing for me and every night I had to prepare for tomorrow what to wear it was a tiring thing in college.

I recently turned 21 and sometimes I feel a little confused as to what I should wear because I’m the type of girl that has a top, jeans, and Converse and I call it a day but sometimes I feel like I’m not taken too serious because of the way I dress. Is it maybe how I style it? but I see many 21 and 22 -year-olds wear the same thing as me and they definitely look their age.. I just don’t understand how they look much older is it because of their body? I’m 5’3 what’s the problem there? Lol..l but I also would like to dress in the age range of 18 to 24 … like I want to be taken seriously at the same time you know I don’t want to dress too old either lol

Great advice! I would tell my 20 year old self that just because something looks good on you doesn’t mean you have to buy it. I ended up with wayyy too many clothes in my early 20’s that looked good on me but were uncomfortable and/or not cohesive with the rest of my clothes.

I love that you started with the word of encouragement. I’m a new mom, majority of my clothes are wearing out I hate what’s left, and feel like I can’t wear cute outfits because 7 months old are messy 🥲

My mom always wanted me to experiment and i hushed her saying i was fine the way i was. I liked being in my comfort zone. Now that I’m in college I’ve realised how right she was. To my younger and future self, Never. Stop. Experimenting. And. Learning.

I spent too much time trying to be like other and ‘fit in’ while in college to be accepted and liked, and later realized that translated in my choice of outfits. Finding your style independently of what’s trending or certain expectations is so freeing! As always, Great tips! 💕

One piece of advice I’d give my younger self is to never go with what everyone else is wearing. Although my sense of fashion hasn’t always been what one could even call fashion, the only things I really truly regret are the times that I tried to fit in with how everyone else looked. Don’t follow trends, wear what you want and discover things for yourself!

I'm 20 now and the main thing that has caused change in my wardrobe is poshmark and thrifting. It makes such a huge difference because it's cheaper and I don't have to buy the crazy trendy pieces that fill the stores. Really let me widen my horizons.

I have been watching your channel for over a year now, and your videos are so comforting as well as reliable to find my own sense of fashion! I just introduced my baby sister (who is turning 13) with this video. With social media constantly surrounding her, she wants to change her style but doesn't know where or what to start with. I can only say so much, but viewing your style, she really appreciates the quotes you added and advice!
