I thank you for getting to the bottom of EV charging. The obsession with how many minutes fast charging takes compared to filling the tank of an ICE has been hammered into public consciousness along with range obsession, the other bugaboo of typical reporting. The fact is that if you don’t have access to home charging, owning an EV under present circumstances is likely to be a significant hassle. The flipside is that if you do have access to home charging both fast charging times and range become largely irrelevant the vast majority of the time. The exceptions are road trips where guaranteed access to reliable, reasonably efficient fast charging is an absolute necessity. Under such conditions a range of at least 225-250 miles is adequate for the average driver who takes periodic rest stops to stretch and pee. It might be fun to brag about 400 mile range and 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds, but let’s get real folks. Affordability and practicality in daily use are much more important to widespread EV than any other criteria.

Here in europe Kempower is selling 40 kw CCS movable charger. Of course you need 230v 3x 63A AC connection and you will get 40 kw DC CCS home charging. It has 2x CCS cables if you want to split it 20+20 kw for 2 cars.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but ... Let's say I own a Tesla Model Y and in my garage I have a pair of Tesla PowerWalls. Why is there no way for me to use DC fast charging straight into my car, with no need to detour through AC?

Prob takes massive current to hit minimum level, $$$$$ hardware? Seems possible, but not built for it. Even for slower DC, it would require larger cables

Yet we don't usually need fast charging at home I'm using one evse set to 16 amps to charge 2 EVS. 40 amp level 2 public would be nice

if you buffer into wall battery, then you can dump the full load at once at very high amps to the car

This is irritating me too. It require 3-phase power. Ok. That’s not that hard for most as street power distributes each phase in turn to houses. Then there’s the equipment- no ones making them for domestic users. Why? 7kw is damned slow.

We have a Garo 3 phase charger which charged our old Q90 Zoe at 22 kWh but charges our new 135GT at 10 only.

Sorry, NONE of these are chargers, but switches or controllers. 100% of all EVs have a charger built-in.
