I’m just wondering if in the second hand where you have AKh and you river a flush against a younger loose player who doesn’t like being bluffed, after he x-flop, x/c turn and x river, maybe you could have bet super small (10-15% pot) to induce a bluff from any of his busted straight draws (which there are many) or to get some value from his Ax type hands?

Good explanations. I gotta be honest I hated that check reraise in to 4 players with a nearly nut draw. No fold equity and a suck position. Seemed like a promising call with a pot that had 4 potential customers if your hand became a monster.

The flush draw when you are suited in the hold and catch the two of the same suit on the flop that's a 30% chance or 33% chance of a flush. That's one of the highest probabilities in poker hands and it's worth playing aggressively

On the first hand, I didn't understand your explanation for not shoving the turn. You said that we're behind their calling range, which makes sense, but don't we generate a ton of fold equity + our flush draw equity at the end? Our 7 pair doesn't seem to have much show down value against his range, so I think the semi-bluff here makes more sense.

Oh, maybe we don't have so much fold equity since their range is practically just draws, top pair, over pairs and sets. And the 7 only helps the straight drawing part of the range. But our shove would stop the drawing combos since there aren't enough pot odds for most to call and would get weak top pair to fold maybe half the time. I guess it depends on how many draws we put into their range.

If you can only chop or lose, you are playing for half the pot. So your pot odds are [half of the middle pot, NOT including the bet] / [the bet]. So if the pot is $100 and opponent bets $50 you are getting 1:1 and need to be right (i.e. they are also playing the board) 50%+ of the time.

You bet for fold equity and to build the pot in case you win. Your ev is highest on the flop because you have two chances left to hit the flush… so a bet on the flop adds money to the pot in case you win, and might chase out someone with an ace or players looking for a cheap turn to see if the straight hits. Don’t just consider the play on this street but the fact you’re in position is a great reason to reraise. If the other players call then on the turn you’ve built the pot, and now there is a good chance the ep opener will check. Depending on the turn you can then bet or check back yourself. I think building the pot in case you hit, driving out aces or lower pairs, and gaining the betting lead is a good reason to consider reraising, especially multi-way. But I like checking as well

Don't know if I fully agree with calling 30 flop on first hand. Nut flush draw completes ~42% of the time with two cards to come depending what others are holding, you would need to get folds just 9% of the time to be profitable. I'm raising nut flush draws about 80% of the time to stay balanced. In fact, you WANT over pairs to call, doesn't matter what they have you only win when your flush completes.

In the second hand you bet small on turn and overbet the river 1.3x and the villain quickly folds. How about overbet the turn and half pot or Jam river? More likely to have huge bet called with a card to come - you already have top/top. Seems like it’s easier to get value in earlier streets.

He said at some tables it gets the job done, 1-2 callers, some tables it doesn't n u have to adjust accordingly. If ur as poker savvy as u claim, id assume u know more then I, yet I've played at tight $1/2 tables, typically day time or early week nights, run into a lot OMCs. Personally if that's the case I put in for a table change as there's never enough action to beat the rake and stealing blinds, even that easy doesn't add up to much. Fyi he was UTG which is the tightest range spot so ur not getting those 9-4 off, 3-5 off middle position to fold, maybe 1 late position and 1 blind- again depends on the table as he says. How often do u get AA raise to $10-12 n get no callers? It happens. Play more like not full table n you'll notice smaller things

FYI u realize how short handed this was right? Mentioned he just moved to the right bc another left. Action went Hero UTG raise UTG +1 FOLDS MP CALLS BUTTON FOLDS SB CALLS BB CALLS. Look closely u can see only 2 sets of hole cards were mucked. Definitely playing 7 handed, 1 being urself u might get 4 limps n 2 folds, $6 on full table typically gets 3-4 calls bc that's 1/3 the field. 4 out of 7 calls of $6 is about 60%

I really disagree with your assessment of the hand. I think you're correct that BECAUSE you played the hand so passively firing a bluff on the river wasn't going to buy the pot. But... had you 3B preflop and raised on the flop... I believe a 1/2 PSB on the river buys it. I mean... the guy had an 8 kicker. There are a lot of hands in your range that have him beat.

From a player of 17 years. Find our own style and roll with it. Do not take courses man. Use that money to buy in table games. Because sitting at table; you will think to much on what your coach would do. Go by your gut. Buying a online subscription will get your mathematician skills up; and play tourist games in Vegas for cheap training. And never drink alcohol at the table while playing if your wanting a win. A way I have learned. 80% of hands are a fold, 20% are a play. Out of a 100 hands I play 20. And ten hands I am playing heavy after flop to grab value. And sometimes I play deuces like aces; meaning I go all in right off the deal. I have learned that I make trips enormous amount of time on the flop with pair of 2’s. 🎉

This is my favorite player type. If nobody else is in the hand, call down with any top pair (or wider if necessary) and you crush their range (and soul). Seat change to their immediate RIGHT if you can. That gives you position on everyone else when they make their spewy plays. If you act first, lead into them for a small bet to provoke a shove and everyone has to worry about you coming over the top before calling the fish.

Raise to $6 thin the field? In Michigan standard straddle in a $1-$2 game is $10 average open raise $12-$15 also here all post flop bets must be in increments of $5 so if you tried to bet $11 the dealer would force you to make it at least $15. Our buy in here is also $400 in most casinos and card rooms meaning our $1-$2 games play more like a $2-$5 game.

I like a 3 bet with AKdd pre, but if you have a read I think a call is okay. That 882 two diamond flop needs to be a check raise though. First and foremost, you are straight up ahead of 99-QQ if that 8s is a non board pairing card. In this case you are flipping, but that does not change much when you take an aggressive line leveraging fold equity. You have all 8x in range and, if you are going with your preflop reading, he does not have any 8s. You can put literally any hand in a tough spot and get better to fold if you X/R here. I hate donking turns because it turns your hand face up. Lucky your opponent stationed you, still don't think it was an optimal line.

I really don't like the squeeze at 13:25. You have a bet, 3 bet, cold call and you want to 4 bet? Yes, it certainly looks strong and is sure to get the weaker hands to fold. But when somebody 3 bets on a board like this it's a either a set or, weakest, an overpair and it usually means he's ready to ship it. At that point even spiking a queen or Jack might not put you ahead. At $2/$5 I'd be a fan of this play, but at $1/$2 they're just too sticky and value heavy. I'd prefer a crying call or, even better, folding and waiting for a better spot.

The bottom line is you have to adjust your play according to what kind of opponents you are facing. In poker I don't like to use words like "ALWAYS" or "NEVER". No two players will play each hand exactly the same. Playing draws aggressively can be lucrative but it can also be costly.

You should go back to each street and consider the reraise and raise on the river… a 9 would call their bets along with raise the river and could definitely get a j to fold. You’re talking a lot about semi bluffs and value bets etc. and I think you’d benefit from reading some Janda or Acevedo. Specifically Janda helps break down why we bet and leaves behind semi bluffing and all that, and instead focuses on betting to build the pot in case we win (and that doesn’t mean potting it every time, rather having a bet range of 30%, 70%, pots, and over bets, and also betting to fold out better hands. Reraising the flop sells the story of a range that has something and you can look for an opportunity to bet if the flush misses… plus you gain the betting lead for the turn. He wouldn’t have raised the turn with top pair there, you could have checked or raised which he might fold but likely not, but then when the nine comes that’s your card to represent trips. And most people think they pn,y have bad luck, don’t work through the hand, and would fold… just because you have some equity on the river, doesn’t mean you should always go to showdown… especially if it’s unlikely your equity is ever good.

For the AKdd hand, you say how do you balance a check raise on the flop but don’t mention how you balance a donk range on the turn. Why not just check raise on the flop and take the betting lead to ensure it doesn’t check through on the turn. A tight button pfr isn’t going to have a lot of 8s in his range anyway.

In the qj 2 spade hand @ 13:14. Your check raise size is bad. Your putting in $115 with $75 behind in a massive pot with a draw. If one of the big stacks comes over the top of you you’re already pot committed. Better off calling in that situation and not hanging your stack. If you must go for a c/r then go all in to maximize fold equity.

Raising AKh and then not C betting with the nut flush draw and two overs would have continued the story. Then you flop top pair, get a little value, river the nut flush and get no value. Not good advice.

Depending on the table you could make an argument for fold, raise or call. This is where live play differs so much from online. If the button is weak and you can push him out then having position helps a lot. But 7 is one of your worse kickers though so I’d fold… too many people float with ace 8-aj… but if you can see a cheap,flop and are disciplined in your folds if you whiff badly… the problem is you’re against too many players… ace rag doesn’t work well against an ep opener and really should be considered in the blinds or button… cutoff if you’re against hj… but the more players you’re against the worse off a hand like a6, a7, a8 will be.

On the ace king suited you’re missing a lot of value by checking that flop. I get it, your opponents have a more butter range than you… but it’s the blinds that are most nutted and they checked, so raise, try and get the later positions players out so you have position, and when someone calls you’ve built the pot in case you win, and denied equity to bottom pairs or mid range cards that might hit but fold. Plus you’ll have the nuts on certain straight runouts. Your range will have all the flush draws, all the trips, and some straights and draws… you have equity and can potentially get position on the two players that have a slight range advantage. And if you’re playing 1-2 I’d consider 8-10 as your raise. Usually you want to net smaller in early position because there is a greater chance you’ll be out of position post flop and you generally want a smaller pot when out of position… however, in live cash games you might have to size up your initial raise to more than 3x because of so many rec players not understanding pots odds and hand equity.

I disagree with the first hand. A7d should be raise on flop. Bet. Bet. He folds a weak jack on the turn or river.

So the very first hand you show, you’re in the cutoff, and you call, call, call, check…and lose. How do you consider this good play, when the opponent is holding top pair with a pathetic kicker? You never took control, and fish called your way out of that pot. If your explanation is that the player holding top pair will never fold to a raise, then I’d say you’re probably wrong 75% of time. The mistake I see here is that you never took control of the hand preflop. With a suited Ace in the cutoff, a 4x raise may have thinned the field, including the dope with the J-8. This was extremely weak play.
