On the turn after we raise/check raise the flop, is there much difference to betting 125% pot compared to %75? The upswing course recommends that sizing for online. Is there a difference for “live”sizings?

I've started using my FD's as bluffs when I miss the turn vs TAGs. Hand from the other night. TAG raises to 3x from the SB. I call from the straddle with a K-10 of hearts. Flop comes Ah, Jh, 7c. He bets out for about 1/3 pot (A-10 is the lowest part of his range here, somewhat of a nit, AK and AQ are more likely) I flat in position. Turn puts a second flush and straight draw out with the 8c. TAG bets 10BB, looking for value. I min raised to take the betting lead and disguise my draws should either hit. TAG shows A-10o and mucks after about 30 seconds. I didnt table the bluff, but was pretty satisfied with the result of the hand. Was fine with getting called as I can still rep a strong hand and follow up on the river if I whiff. If he shoves its an easy fold. If I hit my draw, I can be sure he has a strong hand and will likely call a big river bet as I have removed the draw from my normal range. Helps a lot if you give them a little big hand PTSD from the last time they called a big river bet.

You can also do this when you mis the flush because you have suited but the cards on the felt are another suit. Week ago it was I had AT clubs. The flop comes with 2 spades, I c-bet the flop and get called. turn gives another spade I bet again and I get re-raised. I call the river is a brick. I check he raises and I re-raise him on which he folded. He showed his hand he had JT spades the highest spade on the felt was K spades. Although I would not recommend doing this very often.

So, you balance this with raising 2 pair or better? Is that balanced? What happens when you raise flop, they call, you bet turn, they raise? You have to fold flush draws most of the time. Are you going to fold two pair? If not, you are going to get stacked most of the time they flop a set and you flop two pair, or a good draw? The trickiest is the river when you have missed. If you are playing your draws like this, how many hands before they start raising turn?

I mostly play tournaments and I usually mix up how I play flush draws. Mostly, I try and play small ball check calling but only when I’m getting close to 4:1. Recently I got involved in a hand where I considered check raising the flop with a flush draw and a gutter to the nut straight, but I didn’t raise because there was an ace on the board and I was pretty sure the guy had an ace, which it turned out he did, and I didn’t think he would fold even to a jam. But next time I’m in this situation, I will check raise or raise the flop 2.5x and then bet 75% pot on the turn and see what happens.

Yeah I've tried this strategy, and I usually lose a large portion of my stack because they either have a King and are never folding, have a set, or land one, or make 2 pair. Often I raise a flop like this, and Kx holdings shove. Sometimes high pocket pairs below the K (like JJ) also shove. I noticed you answered the question of what you do when just called, but not what you do when they shove. I guess you're folding your nut flush draw here? That's one reason I DON'T like to play it like you said - you have to take a chance and call a shove or give up your equity in those spots. One thing about your videos mate, they always involve just 1 villain. What if 2 or more people are in the pot? I'm calling here...if I make a flush or an A, I can still charge the K or lesser flushes.

I face the same thing every time I bet big, they fold or shove the nuts. it is important to build the pot before the flop, they will think twice before folding the weak hand. if the flush comes you make money. if it doesn't come, you try to scare them out of the pot. If they raise or shove you_ I would consider folding. this strategy is good but too risky, and if someone bluffs you're most likely folding. and considering the opponents i play against, they always have the nuts when they put good money on the pot. omg

Same here....Someone with a Strong King ( K, 10 and up ^ ) will most of the time call your raise AND put you on the Flush Draw...and When you don't hit it and keep raising higher, they are more times than not gonna call your raise based on the fact that they put u on the draw and it didn't hit. Like a guy with King , 10 a fairly common hand prob 33% of the time SOMEONE out if 7-9 players will go in with K, 10. On his algorithm the guy hits 2 pair on the Turn and BANG he's calling your big raise and if your flush doesn't hit on the River then your done and jus waisted a big portion of your chips on a " semi - bluff turned into full Bluff. His strategy only works if someone is playing King / rag or Ace. Queen/Jack or lesser pocket pairs that don't hit by the turn. His strategy works on some flops but that King 3, 8 10 flop and turn....thats not the best cards to try and bluff imho . Especially in 7-9 player games, a pair of Kings with a good kicker after the Flush draw misses is a strong hand especially on the flop and turn that he spreads out

It’s funny that I stumbled upon this video because I had the same scenario just last week in a cash game… had A5d UTG+1 and flop came 2 diamonds. BB led, it folded to me and I flatted. Turn was a blank and he led again, once again, I flatted. River completed a straight draw, but no flushes. BB bets and I jammed… took him a couple min to call with 2 pair. I wonder if I’d have raised the turn, would I have gotten him to fold either there or on the river

This isn't a great play for short stacks, so you're going to have to evaluate the price you're getting ans go from there. You want to be deeper so that you can follow up on favorable turn/rivers or if you miss. If I have someone outchipped handily in a tournament, they may get action. Most likely folding will just be the superior option if they 3 bet jam. But again, this isn't a play you make on someone short enough to shove top pair to protect their stack.

Used your recent "top 5 hands you should be playing more" last night, raising pre-flop with 10J spades to a K, Q, 9, rainbow board. I c-bet, got an all-in call for less, and another call. Turn came 7 spades, so now had flush draw to go along. checked, and got the other player to go all-in, which I of course snapped off to win the whole thing. Fun- thanks for the great content!

The only problem with that, Mr Nathan, is that a TAG’s preflop range has all the kings of the world in it, especially when playing OOP, so AK, KK, KQ, KJ and of course KT, will put you in a very bad shape in that hand. Aggression in poker is only good when it’s appropriate.

I have actually done this for years and won several hands after the flop or turn, betting and raising the nut flush draws. Most of the time, people with nothing or only one pair will fold after you raise them or bet strong on the flop. If not, and you continue being aggressive on the turn, and they haven't hit two pairs or don't have a set, they get out.

I know that can be really frustrating. I play mostly 2,5/2,5 (50 - 350 buy-in) game in Casino and this helped me a lot: Maybe you can try to think more about your bet sizes and to whom you are betting against. Often it is also just better to call against recreational players and then bet strongly for value if the river gives you flush, I think. It is also necessary that you usually bet/3-bet and not just call your Ax suited hands and suited connectors preflop so the situation looks more scary for your opponents to continue when flop or turn comes with a scary card like K. Are you mostly playing online or in Casino? cash or tournaments? In cash game, it is important to have big enough stack so you can do optimal moves with bets.

You should be thinking about what ranges your opponent likely has and refine it the whole way. With practice you'll get pretty good at figuring out what your opponent has. This will help you figure out when it's appropriate to barrel and when to just give up. Also know your opponent. If you're up against a calling station trying to barrel is pointless.

Then you’re simply screwed. This is a strategy for failure and make you lose a ton of money in the long run. Villain is a TAG so it’s supposed to have many kings in his range, which usually will not fold to a flush draw bluffing attempt

I pick up very carefully against who to apply this strategy. I love one big thing about your teaching is value bet, extract maximum value from the hand. And that I've been doing. Works great for me. I know you mentioned before different casinos works, different strategy, same with website. Some casinos have more tight players other has to many loose players.

So the Tag called your pre flop raise. If so, wouldn’t a king/ten combo be well within his range? By him calling you on the flop wouldn’t he be telling you the king didn’t scare him. Definitely calling us after a 10 on the turn should tell us our ace high is a loser. TAG’s don’t just call and hope. Your video’s are very informative but also tell us the opponent never has anything. In Video Poker, where programs are running, there are no random cards. Can’t remember the last semi bluff I ran where I was called throughout by a player with nothing.

I 100% agree with this. If you flop a flush draw, you should be betting/Raising. It accomplishes 2 things. 1 it keeps your opponent guessing as to what you have. If you just check/call until the flush draw makes it, then bet. You might as well play your cards face up. 2. Nathan already said. It gives you a chance to steal a pot if your opponent is not that strong. I'll give a great example. I was playing live cash. I had something like QsJs. Flop came KsQc8s. I flopped 2nd pair and a flush draw. My opponent checked, so I bet he calls. Turn was 5h. Opponent checks, I bet he calls. River was 7s. This time, my opponent bet and I shoved all in. It made him think for a while, and then he eventually called. He showed AK. He had no idea what I was betting with. He thought i was probably bluffing. If I had just checked/called the whole time, then bet once the flush hit, he would have known I had the flush and just folded.

The chance of your bluff working depends a lot on board texture. You should explain how to be careful to not attempt a flush draw bluff when it's possible your opponent has a straight. They won't be folding and you'll have to catch your flush.

@coreywhite2081 I'll be honest here, I almost never bluff. I play the limp strategy and get donks to shove their chips into my winning hands. I check with nuts when I'm out of position. I make my showdown bets look bluffy. LOL and it's all possible when you train a table to be cautious by limping a few times with big hands. Now you can see flops for a reasonable price. I know you risk the chance of letting a weak hand limp in, but those types of players call anyway often enough that it outweighs trying to bet them off their hands to just wait and see how the hand develops. Just a different more cautious strategy than believing you can get people to fold

Small detail : everyone just plays super passive. 90% of time you are gonna be the one that bets on every street and if do not connect at the river you are just burning money cause ppl do not fold unless you go all in

Nathan seems to play a sort of old school chip bully style according to his advice. I have played like that when running hot and stacked up, but as an everytime strategy I found very little luck especially with big hands. So I switched to the limping strategy and I do a lot of trapping. I have much better luck. Once you catch a chip bully in a trap they tend to slow down and you end up getting to see more flops. I'm talking about tournament play though, so not sure how well it would work against a rich bully. LOL

Having read a lot of comments I think you need to put "I am playing against a TAG" in big flashing colours across the whole screen. Those of you saying my opponent's always do x or never do y, are not labelling other players at their table. Against the correct player you will get enough folds, and sometimes they call and you hit. Against a fish who over values their hand and never folds you call flop and turn and 5x the pot on the river, if you hit, to get paid big, why not if they are never folding ;) Although these players exist I think you will find them rarer than you think.

This seems like terrible advice again with a grain of truth to it. It basically amounts to raise them with nothing and hope you get lucky which is 1/3 of the time (ignoring that they could also be suited). If it's the beginning of the game you'll be down and every other player has a better chance of winning than you do 2/3 of the time. It's better to see how things play out cheaply. Let them raise and commit themselves. If you hit you can go all in and they probably take it, if you miss you haven't lost much.
