Isolated bass of 5 songs from the Groove Lab with my fretless Cortex bass! Locking in with drums is one of my favorite things, let's turn it around and hear the bass naked, on request here are some isolated recordings to jam with or listen to, hope you'll enjoy!
I started writing more fretless stuff the past year since I got this Cortex bass from Switzerland, been looking at combining these woods for a fretless for some time and couldn't be happier the way it turned out, big props to luthier Paul lairat and Pierre Camilleri from Cortex. New fretless basses like this are in the making, so much fun to play! I recorded these directly into my audio interface using a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor, Rodenberg 707b booster, Carl Martin Delayla XL, Walrus Audio D1 and a Boss OC-2 octaver. I used Ernie Ball Cobalt Slinkys on vid 1,2 and 5, Super slinkys on 3 and 4, gauge 100-80-65-45. Pickup is a Nordstrand Dual Coil with 2 band Glockenklang preamp, knobs are vol/bass/treble. Further specs on the vids here on my channel, check 'm out on my fretless playlist. Thanks for watching, jamming and all the good vibes! Lotsa funk in the works!

I started using the thing where he plucks with his thumb and index on the same string, the staccato sounds absolutely amazing and it's easier to do fast dead notes. No where near his level though!

Remco playing these 5 grooves is the video illustration of "trenchant" in some online dictionaries. Gauntlet laid down; let any mortal bassist attempt this fretless, drumless, escapade alone on camera. Let them publish it to KZbin and behold courage or foolishness or both. Cheers mate; you're grand!

Awesome stuff man. You ever thinking of dabbling into microtonal concepts? Since you seem to be pretty good at this fretless thing I feel like it would be a natural direction to go. Like maybe tuning your thirds to just intonation for that more solid sound, for a start.
