I love your vlogging style so much! Thank you so much for captioning too! So appreciated! Definitely make a video about your disabilities, visibility is so important and as an undiagnosed person I love hearing from people who... KNOW, haha! Regarding your love of sci fi, you might like the book I'm writing! Would love to Skype and bounce some ideas off you, as I sometimes get stuck in the direction I'd like to take it so it would might help to talk to a fellow fan of the genre! As for questions: how do identify? (in every way you feel comfortable discussing, including identity first or person first language, gender pronouns, orientation, etc) What kind of camera do you use? What do you like and dislike about it?

+Annie Elainey Ah thanks so much Annie! Captioning is important to me too with my cognitive difficulties I find good ones quite uesful at times so I do my best ^_^ I'll definitely make that disabilities video, seems like almost everyone is interested so that's good! I would love to be able to help you out over Skype but I'm sad to say I have too much anxiety when it comes to phone calls/videochats of any kind. It took me 4 years to work up the courage to do KZbin haha! Thank you for your questions, they're great! I may make a whole video about identity because that's a complicated one for me and would be interesting to delve into properly.

Questions: 1. I'm curious how your personal style has evolved over the years and the role your disabilities has played in this? 2. Are you comfortable sharing more about your tattoos? 3. Any tips for rediscovering identity and purpose after a career change / life change was required thanks to a decline in physical and cognitive ability? 4. What prompted the move from England to Canada? 5. If you could travel anywhere in the world without concern for cost or accessibility, where would you go?

5 "fun" facts about me: 1. I once lived on a farm and was responsible for plucking chickens 2. I now eat a (mostly) plant based diet 3. I adore spending time outside and previously enjoyed hiking and rock climbing 4. I am searching for my identity as a newly disabled woman 5. Before my illness my favourite colour was white, but now I prefer black It's a pleasure getting to know you Cherry. Oh, and I'm a huge fan of forearm crutches - though I can't get as far as I can on wheels, they allow me to access trails and stairs. I'm pondering a splurge on custom fit SideStix.

+zennmomma Thank you for sharing your facts! Forearm crutches will definitely be where I'm heading. I'm hoping to at least try out some SideStix if nothing else. There's a place in Vancouver (MacDonald's Prescriptions) that will rent them out per day (:

+Migratory Patterns Oh! No way! Thank so much for the tip! I've been distracted by the whole wheelchair process but I know advanced mobility also has a demo pair or two. And there is a German brand that is pretty light weight and much cheaper - sorry the brand is escaping me but it's what I've been renting from my local pharmacy. Hope you find the right fit!

I enjoyed your video. :) My 5 facts: 1. I got two cats: Anouk and Bruno. Bruno was born in Mexico, brought to Spain, where my boyfriend adopted him, traveled to England with him and now semi-finally lives in Germany. One of my life goals is being a crazy cat lady. 2. I met my boyfriend via Twitch and videogames. We argued so much while co-oping different games that he decided he had to meet me. He is Irish and moved to Germany for me. 3. I am obsessed with books. I own around 1200 books and my bedroom was called "the library" when I was living with my parents. 4. I studied linguistics, but was so terrified of becoming like my professors that I am now working as a real estate agent/accountant. I love my job, but since I am disabled (no diagnosis so far, leaning towards EDS) working is increasingly hard. 5. I am a very positive person and I can see the positive side of everything, but since I am also very pragmatic and practical most people don't seem to be too annoyed by me. I would love to see an EDS themed video from you, just because I am totally freaking out here. I am trying to gather as much information as possible and try and compare - even though I know that you cannot really compare. I would also like to get to know your cat - crazy cat lady mode engaged. :D

+Julaeable Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed it! If I could have my way I would adopt all the cats that can't find good homes, but then I probably wouldn't be able to take care of them, so reality kicks in >.< That is such a cool meeting story with you and your boyfriend! I have book goals from reading your facts too! I downsize my collection every time I move and it's painful. Number 5 sounds a lot like me! I will definitely do a disabilities video as so many people have requested it, so I will make sure I talk about how EDS affects me in there (although my overall picture is a little more complicated and I am definitely not a 'typical' EDSer). Oh and good idea for a video about my cat, thank you! I will put that on my list :D

I'm glad you addressed the whole "but how does she feel about zombies" issue at the end, I was getting worried. I hate/am terrified of zombies and the idea of zombies and dead things in general. However, I love the Walking Dead show (the comics are queued up) and even watch the Talking Dead. But onlyonlyonlyonly when the sun's up. I guess that's one "fun" fact about me.

My own five fun facts: 1. I'm an artist. I paint, write, and just love to create things in general.. My first love was writing poetry. 2. I love the city, but live in a fairly small community now as I needed a slower pace and some privacy where I could garden and enjoy the quiet. 3. I have a teenager at home! He loves anime and is an intelligent, interesting, amazing human being who I absolutely adore. 4. I recently adopted a cat after years of living in places where I couldn't have an animal and he's become a huge important part of my family. 5. I'm turning 40 this year and I'm totally freaking out about it! My husband loves the same authors as you. Him and I met 4 years ago and while we share a love of books and film, we have completely different tastes. I don't have any questions for you right now that I can think of.

Hello!! I'm a new subscriber and I loved this! I enjoy all of the comics you mentioned (I do agree with Brian's over use of that slur, though...) Here are my 5 things about me followed by my questions: 1. I am a comic collector! 2. I graduated with a degree in Video Game Development. 3. I LARP in a post apocalyptic science fiction setting (so nerdy I know :( ) 4. I love succulents, ferns and mosses. 5. I casually bird watch! My grandfather is an avid birdwatcher. Questions! 1. What are some more of your favorite Science Fiction films and books? 2. What are some more of your favorite Science Fiction comics? (There are some great ones out there! I love Saga so much!) 3. You said you play video games, what games are your favorite? 4. I love your style! Do you have any favorite closet items you would like to share? 5. Do you have any favorite birds you'd like to talk about? Maybe a top 5? :)

I first got to know you through an interview by Chris Bentz in which you were talking about your art. Can you tell us more about how and when you started as an artist, like when did you learn to draw/ paint, your career, is it possible to support yourself as a full time artist in Vancouver, etc etc. I really really like your vids, thanks for sharing :)
@MigratoryPatterns
@MigratoryPatterns 8 жыл бұрын
+Jagoda Pado Ah, thank you! That's really cool that you first got to know me through that interview. It was a great experience working with Chris. I think I'll quickly answer your questions here as they're quite specific, so hopefully that's okay! I loved art and painted and drew a lot growing up, but I found my high school art teacher quite discouraging. Then when I was about 18 or 19 all of my art work got stolen or destroyed and it was kind of a last straw so I basically never picked it up again (although I was always doing *something* creative), then in my late 20s I decided I needed to do something just for me (as my photography work absolutely wasn't for me at all by that point) so I decided to learn to draw again and had to reteach myself. Then, I met two of my (now) best friends who are professional artists and they encouraged me so much and even had me working with them in group art sessions (and then with more local artists) and this helped me to improve quickly and gave me a great work ethic. I don't personally currently support myself as a full time artist in Vancouver. I do, however, know a few artists that are able to. As the art scene is quite small in Vancouver itself it very much involves having an online presence, sales and gallery shows in cities elsewhere. I do think that is true for most artists outside of places like LA, SF, New York, London etc. though. I hope this answers your questions okay!

I tried watching Z Nation but couldn't continue. The first episode was too ridiculous for me. Maybe after some time I'll come back to it. Five fun facts about me: 1. I grew up watching a lot of tv, mostly cartoons. It amazes me how much I remember of them. 2. If it wasn't for my facial hair, I could pass as early to mid 20s (I'm 36). 3. I love to cook. My specialty is stir fry; vegetables, rice, noodles… anything really. 4. I have an engineering degree, but currently not putting it to use 😢. Even so, I still consider myself a scientist. 5. I have scars on my arm and my chest from gunshot wounds. I was very lucky and took from the experience that self happiness is paramount. Sorry to end on a low note but I guess that's a little something that we have in common. I love your videos and your instagrams are great. 😊

FIVE FACTS ABOUT ETHAN!! 1. I'm genuinely generally interested in just about EVERYTHING. It's hard for me to decide what I want to do with my life because of this. 2. Ever since I can remember I've had lucid dreams nearly every night. The first time I learned that it wasn't normal was like 2 years ago. I read the term lucid dream somewhere and googled it. For nearly twenty years I thought everyone was like that... 3. I learned to speak Vulcan and Sindarin when i was a junior in high school. There wasn't enough words for communication though and I've since forgotten it all. :( But this time I'm learning Japanese! :) 4. I don't remember names well. I remember faces but names are a challenge. 5. My favorite things are: blue, pizza, Gorillaz, Halo, science, and thinking/learning is my favorite pastime.

Hi Cherry, I just wanted to say that your videos are wonderful and between you and Annie Elainey I have found so much happiness in knowing that a community that hits so close to home is filled with so many wonderful people like yourselves. I actually just made my channel a few days ago and I absolutely suck at editing and all of that (its..in progress I swear XD) and I am a wheelchair user. I have been for most of my life and up until now I haven't actually been very actively involved with the community because I just didn't know where to start, how to meet people. So..I'm giving it a go. Anyways, again..you're videos are beautiful. -Wednesday (Mercurri)

I feel like I also misunderstand what "fun" is... cause I thoroughly enjoyed your fun facts, and also most people don't enjoy my "fun" stories or facts or whathaveyou nearly as much as I expect they will. I really enjoy the way you speak. I'm a person super into communication and how people express themselves and communicate for themselves and I'm just into the way that you do. "The Road" is one of my absolute favorite books ever! It makes me sad how many people haven't read it. I'm a big fan of science fiction, too - getting more into as time goes on. I'm going to have to look into some of the stuff you love! I have a novel series suggestion: "Jumper" by Steven Gould. He's a local author (I'm in Albuquerque, NM, US.) and the - so far - 4 novel series is really incredible. I think it is, anyways. The movie adaptation of the first book, "Jumper", is absolutely horrendous. So bad. The actual worst. There are audiobooks for the series, tho! - Will you talk about some of your favorite TV series? Science fiction or not. Current or old. I'm a big TV watcher (a lot of time in bed) and I love to hear about other people's TV interests. - What are your feelings on succulents? They're different than mosses and lichen obviously. But I have the "cute little ecosystem of their own" feels about succulents. - Will you tell us about your cat?! - Will you talk about your own personal style (hair, clothes, makeup or lack of, accessories, colors, etc.) and what it means to/for you? - I'd be into hearing more about your disabilities if that's something you want to share. - Will you share some of your personal identities, your experiences of them, their intersectionality, and just what they mean to you? My questions are less questions and more topics, but...

+Lilan Oh thank you! I edit my videos quite heavily because there are generally a looooot of long pauses and weird sequitors like 'kind of' and 'aaaaaand', so I try to edit those down to keep the videos snappy and not *too* long. I'm glad it still comes across as natural though! Verbal communication is a weird one for me and difficult so I am happy to hear it! Thanks for the series suggestion! I tend to not read series because they are a big commitment for someone like me who finds it hard to read, but I will have to check out the audiobooks (:
@f2byamtv
@f2byamtv 8 жыл бұрын
You edit really well, too. Definitely feels natural. And I get needing to cut out pauses and the like. Those things don't make you a bad communicator, tho! Recording yourself can be weird. I get that. The books really can stand on their own because they're all just so good. But as a series, they're even better. I hope you can enjoy them! :)

What advice would you give someone who wanted to make a career out of photography? Are you a Star Trek fan? Which series is your fav? Fun facts! 1. I've been a barista for a long long time and I don't drink a lot of coffee anymore. Mostly iced tea these days! Mostly I only get coffee if it's at a place I haven't tried before. 2. I've loved poetry basically my entire life, and I need to get back to reading and writing more of it. 3. I love driving and road trips, which is why I was glad you will be posting about your recent trip. I like stopping at all the little fun and weird places on the way from point A to point B. 4. My sense of smell is a bit more sensitive than what is usual. Sometimes it's a complete joy to be outside and take a breath of fresh air, but sometimes it's awful too because the world contains some seriously funky smells. 5. I grew up Mormon and lived just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah for most of my life (I live in Portland, OR now). I haven't been a Mormon for quite a while, and although it definitely shaped some of who I am since I lived adjacent to the culture for so long, it hasn't defined me.
@MigratoryPatterns
@MigratoryPatterns 8 жыл бұрын
+DREA Number 4! yes! I have an extremely sensitive sense of smell and it can be quite an awful thing at times (but of course, also great with things I LIKE to smell!). I know so little of what it means to be Mormon since I'm from the UK, I've only briefly heard mention of it when I had a lay-over in Salt Lake City a few times and then again when I went to Arizona. I was brought up Christian (a complicated mess of various kinds from Pentecostal to Methodist mostly with an atheist father) but have never felt particularly religious myself, I have always found religion quite interesting though, and one of my favourite classes when I was young was Relegious Education.

+Rebelwheels NYC (Michele Kaplan) Yes! Being fully able to read but struggling with it is not that common! People talk about things like learning difficulties and cognitive difficulties in terms of school but then it's almost as if everyone assumes these things disappear in adult life (; I too have this issue of processing things in real time. I have very delayed processing of many things from stuff going on around me to emotions, and it's quite inconsistent. It's likely due to austim for me. Thank you for your question ^_^

Hi, Im Alyssa and these 5 "fun facts" about myself and then I will have a question or two for you at the bottom ♡ 1. I enjoy knowing more and more of the human body. I'm pretty interested in surgeries and how it's even possible to do such a thing. however I could never go into the medical field like that because I am a little squeamish. 2. My favorite color is pink but my I was little I HATED pink. I don't know why but ya. 3. I have 3 cats, 2 dogs, 1 rabbit, 1 hamster and fish. I love animals so much. They all have helped me through some really tough times. 4. I love Vanilla ice cream but if it takes more like the bean itself it bothers me. 5. I want to start a youtube channel myself and I did have one up at some point. I ended up taking it down and haven't record since. all because when I talk one side of my mouth doesn't really move. I thought I looked stupid and it extremely upset me. however I have such a love for photography and taking silly videos that I really want to do it again. Now my questions for you! You said you collect sweets if you had to pick your favorite two, what would they be? Also, I see you have a few tattoos, do any of them have a special meaning or a funny/interesting back story? I'm so glad I found your channel. I really enjoy your videos and you help me realize, even will mobility problems there are still ways to enjoy life, especially with foods. You really sparked another want for me to make videos again and go exploring more. Hopefully I can find a way soon to go exploring again with my camera. I hope you are doing well.

+18abear Hi Alyssa, nice to meet you!! Thanks for sharing your facts. Animals are the best! As for number 5 if you can you should do it! I had/have so many things I really don't like about myself or am self conscious about, and at first it was SO difficult and painful for me to even watch the footage, let alone spend hours editing it and sharing it, but after sticking with it, it's slowly getting easier. You may not be the same as me of course, but I find the more I do it, the more I can distance myself from the fact that it's me in the videos. Thank you for your questions! (:

Fun Fact about me 1. i've a scar on the top of one of my ass because when i was a child i wanted to see a bull into a field because i loved (and still love) animals. i really though it was a good idea but i hurt myself on the barbed wire 2. sometimes i see people just one time (or on the internet) and i instantly like them. but I'm always afraid they don't like me. i think i'm not an interesting person 3. i've a really tiny bladder 4. I'm a really anxious person but sometimes i do things on a sudden impulse like leaving for uk to be an aupair. 5. i really wish i can see in the future, I'm terrible at making choice and i would like to know in advance what are gonna be the consequences of my choice. my questions: - do you think we gonna time travel one day? do you want to time travel? - if you had to describe you in three words ? - what's your favorite food? (beside sakura donuts 😀) i really like you videos, i hope one day I'm gonna be confident enough to do like you. I'm really interested if you make a video on disabilities.

1. I love science fiction, folklore, and mythology, paleontology, archaeology, and history. This lead me to strangely collecting fossils and I have a dinosaur skeleton glitter globe. 2. Fave bands: MUSE & Imagine Dragons. 3. I'm a practicing Stoic. 4. I don't drive either and I'm 27. I'm hoping to maybe get a motorcycle license or something in the future so I'm not totally dependent on others. But I'm not sure how that will work with a wheelchair. ... I'll have to think about that one. 5. I'm constantly trying to learn new things, some of them in the hopes of finding a job I might be able to do and some just to see if I can. For example, I'm going to try to learn Irish Gaelic and play the low d tin whistle. Bonus #6. I'm a nature freak. I have plants all over the house and I like to press flowers and put them in an old cigar box. P.S. Make the video about your disabilities please!! :)

+Meira D. I wonder if you could get a motorcycle with a side-car for your wheelchair? That would be pretty cute! Oh and I love pressed flowers a lot too! I should try that again. I did it a lot when I was younger. Now I mostly just dry lichen because that is so easy to do.

A sidecar is a great idea! :) I've never dried lichen before. I might try that sometime though out of curiosity. :)

+Meira D. It's so easy! I basically just bring them inside and keep them in a dry place with lots of air. Generally a shelf. Hehe.

I'm definitely going to try it then. I can probably find some in the forest near my house.

I would love to see a video talking more about your disabilities. I am also disabled and it sounds like you might have some of the same illnesses that I do. Would also be interested in a video about all of your tattoos if you would be comfortable doing so.

+kayvee101 That's okay! I do that all the time, haha. I used to have a subscription to audible but that expired recently as I kept not spending my credits. I need to find a hobby to occupy my hands and brain while I'm listening so I can get back to them ^_^

This was great! Seems we have a few things in common. :) I consider myself quite a sci-fi snob, also (but I do really love fantasy, too). Nature is my absolute favorite thing, and birds are a fascination of mine - I'm drawn to hummingbirds and chickadees, but also love the owls and hawks and kestrels. And vultures. And the rest of them, really.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I, too, have a tough time recalling the names of birds, though vividly seeing them in my mind and why can't people just see that and know about which ones I'm talking??! Plus, (and we spoke of this on twitter) zombies freak me out. I, though, cannot watch TWD or anything. Except Shaun of the Dead was OK. 3 add'l stuffs re: me... 1) Czech was my first language - the 'rents came over in the late 60's 'cause of that crappy communism thing, and wanted my sis and me to know Czech so that's what we were taught first. Plus we can communicate with the rest of our family over there. My first English word was "pizzaface." 2) I'm super bad socially with people (I say stupid shit a lot due to being nervous and brain/mouth doesn't work). Which is why I love animals! All kinds. Seems I can relate and understand non-humans much better, and they get me better, too. Which is why I chose engineering as a major (everyone's awkward, and less ppl interaction overall) and love love love volunteering in wildlife rehab (just did a vulture release yesterday, and have been fostering a baby rat since she was 3 days old - adorbs). 3) I've got 2 feral rescue kitties that were litter mates, because I was feeding their mom and then she pooped out babies on our deck and I was all, "ok, I guess we have kittens now." And then I spayed mommy and neutered babies asap. And b/c we love LOTR and fantasy, we named 'em Gandalf (the gray) and Merlyn (the black). They've never "normalized" to regular cat behavior, though, even after almost 14 yrs. ?s for YOU! - So I think your tattoos are beautiful! If it's not too personal, are there stories behind what/where/why you chose them? - What's your favorite bird? I remember an ig post on gulls (super cool), but are they your fave? - What kind of art do you prefer to do? (subjects, medium, etc) I've seen some of what you've done and have been completely blown away by how amazing it is. - Do you get super sad if an animal gets injured in a movie/book/show/... more than if a person does? - Who is someone you admire, and why? - Do you believe in ghosts? - You mention a lot about visual art and being a visual person - do you also have a similar thing with sounds/music? - What are you neurotic about? - What editing s/w do you use for your videos? How long does it take you to make them look so put together? What's your setup (hardware, software, do you use a selfie stick, etc)? - What do you find super annoying about people and their interactions with you? I think that's it for now... If I come up with more questions I'll post another reply. :)

+Veronica Oh we do have so many things in common. I've loved getting to know you on Twitter ^_^ Thanks for all the great questions! I love the names of your cats (I was a huge LOTR/Tolkein fan when I was a teenager, and I did adore the films). Wildlife rehabs was one of my dreams and sadly I don't think I'll be able to now, but I will live vicariously through you! Also, I don't know why but that is so cute that your first english word was a kind of insult, haha.

+Veronica Basically I put some dark grey eyeliner or coloured eyeshadow on the corners of my eyes and smudge it out with a lighter/neutral colour to blend it into my eyelids. Haha. I will have to make a video some time. I had to really adapt my make up techniques as my disabilities progressed, so that could be interesting, maybe.

Same! And thanks - I shorten Gandalf to Goof, though; much more appropriate for how he behaves. ;) And I'm sorry about the rehab thing - it plain sucks when you realize you can't do some things anymore. And yeah, my mom cannot remember my first word, but this she does! She blames the next door neighbor kid for teaching it to me when we first met.

okay, so my question is: star wars or star trek or both? are there any other sci-fi shows that are pivotal for you? (babylon 5 is a pivotal one for me) (also, if you would be comfortable sharing your visual art, i'd really love to see some of your work.) ok, 5 [fun] facts: 1. i am also a visual artist. for a long time my main art forms were mixed media collage & watercolours. now, because of my disabilities, i've started creating digital collages instead because it is easier on my hands and much safer than handling a scalpel. 2. i'm a writer too. i used to write exclusively fiction, i participated in nanowrimo for 8 consecutive years. these days i seem to only want to write autobio content. 3. i worked as a sex educator in 2014. 4. i have very weird taste associations. for example, i think scotch tastes like bacon bits, the david's tea mocha matcha latte tastes like white hot chocolate my grandmother used to make me, and the pomegranate burt's bees chapstick tastes like how a citronella candle smells. i know there's more but i can't seem to think of any rn. 5. i am hard of hearing and want to learn ASL. my goal is to take a 101 course before the end of the year.

+rin lawrence Oh good question! I will hopefully make some videos about my art eventually. I worked as a sex educator too! When I was 18, so a very long time ago now (; hehe. Matcha often tastes like white chocolate to me too, that's so interesting! Have you seen Rikki Poynter's channel? She has some great ASL videos and has been learning for the past year, I believe.

+Migratory Patterns i''ve followed rikki's channel for a while now! she's great :) i only worked as a sex educator for one year, but i really loved it. it was a program specifically geared towards queer & trans youth, and i may have another job opportunity lined up for next year doing something similar with disabled youth. we shall see :3

+rin lawrence Oops I missed the second half of your reply! That is so cool that you got to focus on that too. Mine was just high school sex education and one of its biggest flaws was that the program did not include any education specifically for queer or other minorities.
