Way back, say 20 years ago, while serving in the Marine Corps, I purchased a Surefire ZR2 combat. 65 lumens with an hour run time. It had an optional lamp upgrade for 120 lumens with under 30 min battery life. Today I carry a $35 Streamlight that produces 115 lumens and uses a single AAA battery.

My favorite outdoors EDC knife is a 440C SS bellied drop point (6 1/2" fixed blade cutting edge) with an 1/4" thick spine. It can literally chop a tree, filet a fish, and hack straight through a deer leg in one swing. This was quenched using dry ice in a proprietary method then tempered. G10 handles and full grain sheath lined with kydex. My black smith charges $100 for each one. My EDC for work is a Cold Steel Ti lite 6. IF I need to use it for...stuff I want to make damn sure it can...touch stuff and be deployed as I'm drawing it out (quicker than any flicker as you have to draw then deploy, I deploy on the draw). Just modify the pocket catch to grab better for deployment (dremel and a conical grinder). $165. It's my opinion that after ~$300 or so you're just paying for name (snob factor). There is NOTHING a $1,300 pocket knife can do that a well made $300 knife can. Function over fashion in this arena, now don't get me wrong. I love my Padron and Davidoff cigars, my Macallan 25. I'll pay for quality in a heart beat. But I refuse to pay for solely snob factor.

Great stuff brother, I have switched over to stream light on my new rifle build. Nothing wrong with the surefires on my older gear , but as you’ve pointed out the stream light does the same job at a fraction of the cost. I carry a micro stream with usb rechargeable for EDC.

The utility knife game has totally changed. Civivi is obviously a great budget knife, CJRB/Artisan Cutlery is great, Sativian has surprisingly gotten better (K110 Bohler steel flipper for $29.99 is crazy cool, with better action and ergonomics than some of my personal high end knives) Off Grid has some incredibly heavy duty overbuilt knives, I mean I’m sure if you’re watching this video this is all nothing new to you, but just in case someone is new to EDC just know options for a great folding knife is damn near endless. But also keep in mind what was said in the beginning, if you don’t mind spending the extra couple dollars on your gear you’ll probably end up having to put that piece of kit in your last will and testament because it will outlast you. Anyways everyone be well! 🇺🇸

I've been using the stream light wedge for nearly a year now. Excellent light. I'm a sublet vendor in the collision industry. I use it for general inspection and full on dash pulls. It'll hold a charge for 2 weeks before I have to throw it on a charger for 6-7 hours on a weekend night. My only gripe, immediately take the clip off and loctite (blue or red) the small machine screws. They tend to come loose. It took me a couple tightening sessions to finally just loctite them and I haven't had to do it since.

I’ve got the murdered out version (and maybe a few other colorways) but it is soooo hard to read. I picked up the GAB2100-1A and use that as my “I don’t wear expensive watches around here” option. I have a rather balanced knife collection with my cheapest being the Ontario Rat 2 that I bought for around $30 up to my nicest knife being a $1,300 Rockstead Higo II. For the money, my favorite knife is the Renegade Provisions God of Mischief, but my favorite budget knife is definitely the Tempest Pinion. I never did handle a QSP Penguin, but that would probably be the next budget knife I would purchase. The rest of my EDC game is W E A K.

As an EDC watch I guess the Casio is a fine watch. I'm kind of an old school guy myself. I prefer mechanical or self winding watches for myself, which I don't have as my timex self winder was damaged by my grandson and I can't afford to replace at the moment. My logic is IF the SHTF I will not have unlimited access to replacement batteries but a mechanical watch with a waterproof rating should suffice. I really enjoy your videos. Rock on.

I use a streamlight wedge on a daily basis for work as a mechanic and edc. I've used it several times in the woods as I live next to them, and it absolutely insane how strong that little thing is. Completely recommend the streamlight wedge, just don't use the turbo mode too long as it can and will melt out the plastic over the light itself

When it comes to watches, Casio is a ridiculously reliable brand that won’t break the bank. I know the one I wear isn’t exactly budget friendly, but at around $300, my Casio Pathfinder has lasted me 12 years so far with no signs of quitting. It’s practically invisible, always accurate, and has so many bells and whistles that there’s still a few I don’t understand. I’m wearing this until it somehow stops working, and if I can’t get it fixed, I’ll probably buy another one.

Honestly, I've been questioning the bottle opener on EVERYTHING. I just use my seatbelt buckle... and in one of my old trucks, I just used the door catch loop. Kind of a pet peeve of mine... just like thumb studs (so lazy).

The ultimate "wear-and-forget" watch is still the Casio Oceanus S100. JDM watch, titanium case & bracelet, solar powered, syncs with atomic clock radio signal, sapphire crystal, lume that lasts through the night, date window you can actually read from a distance, and because of all that titanium it's super-light. It's basically a "somewhat dressy" G-Shock since the internal components are literally from the G-Shock analog dial line. Oh yeah, and you can switch time zones in seconds with it much faster than any other watch. Best watch for travel no matter the terrain. Next best would be a G-Shock 5100 square. Solar, radio sync, tough resin housing and band, and cheap to buy. Back when I spent a decade on tanks all we wore were G-Shock squares because an M1A1/A2 tank would *eat* any other brand of watch. The problem with the Casioaks is that the hour indicators are not lumed, only the hands are and the lume on the hands is dirt cheap and doesn't last very long.
