Burgundy is famous for some of the greatest wines out there, however it is also famous for very expensive wines. This makes looking for value in Burgundy that much harder. But I wanted to dig a bit deeper, and take a look at Burgundy wines beyond the greatest names that we all love and adore so much, and maybe find something affordable and offering great value, both red wines and white wines.

I find Rully, Givry, Savigny Les Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton and even Beaune (maybe except of some of the most famous and ambitious Premier Crus, which once might turn into Grand Cru) quite affordable in comparison to the most prestigious appelations from Cote De Nuits...

The world needs more burgundy wine videos! Thanks for your video! Been there three times since last year only as I am fortunate enough to only drive 4.5h from Frankfurt Germany. Agree with your choices. Regarding white I actually prefer chablis over cote de beaune, lucky me. For reds I tend to look at Mercurey but especially for reds there are so many more producers and areas to explore that I haven’t yet 😅

Thank You for Your comment and I will keep in mind that maybe I should focus more on Burgundy wines. Chablis is a great wine and still so, so affordable if compared to rest of the Burgundy. 🍷

True, very few people can afford best Burgundies, and a lot of theese people just drink them for a status😂 Some basic Bourgognes from good quality producers could also be a good value with a decent Burgundy experience at low prices. Also wines from Givry! Cheers!🍷

I would also add Mercurey to your list as the reds offer a great quality/price/pleasure ratio. I would suggest producers such as Michel Juillot, Domaine MIA and Faiveley if you want something a little more high-end (aged Clos des Myglands is amazing) Sometimes I wish I had a time machine so that I could go back 30 years to buy good Bourgogne grand cru / premier cru at a reasonable price (it doesn’t help that my favorites are Chambolle-Musigny and Volnay 😅)

Thank You for the comment. I do stand by the producers I showed in the video, like Francis Carillon with Aigote, Mugneret with his Fixin (though that is expensive). I have always enjoyed Santenay from Vincent Girardin a lot. Also Bouzeron from Domaine Villaine (private project of owner and winemker of DRC) but also other wines are worth seeking out. 🍷

Another shout for Santenay. Had some great wines from this village. Like another commenter, I'd also recommend Mercurey as a less expensive quality option. Marsannay is also another good option, with Sylvian Pataille and Rene Bouvier being two producers who have an excellent quality to price ratio.

Great topic! It has been increasingly difficult, to find value in Bourgogne. Especially with the reds. Even basic Bourgogne rouge and blanc, have increased by 50-100% in gross prices. I have, however, found great value in Maranges, as well as Fixin and Marsannay.

I remember having a great Saint-Romain rouge VV 2019 by Vincent Girardin. It was the first wine from Burgundy that I really loved. It was also the experience that got me into wine and made me want to learn and taste more. Unfortunately, it wasn’t really a wine for cellaring so the bottles I have left are only a shadow of that first bottle.
@NoSediment
@NoSediment 3 ай бұрын
Vincent Girardin is a very reliable producer, in my view. And probably, it was made into a more early appealing way, so it is good to know that these bottles should be enjoyed young. But, sometimes, the experience is greater because of the company we share that wine with. 🍷 Cheers! 🥂

When I was in Champagne, I was shocked at the prices in France for Burgundy. I could get grand cru Champagne for half of the price of grand cru Burgundy.

I once had a glorious bottle of Hautes Cote de Nuits from Domaine de la Douaix... But I only had this one bottle and never got my hands on another bottle ever again. I also love any reds and whites from Cote Chalonnaise. But my go to region to match the top level Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaunes is - and this is really awkward - Dão in Portugal.

Cheers! 🍷 I don’t think it is odd, and in one way it kind of makes sense, because these wines can be beautifully perfumed and show complexity of the flavours. 🍷

Gawd I also love Burgundy, reds and whites alike, but it feels like prices have doubled just the past 2-3 years. How I wish id stocked up better a few years back, but yeah my storage space aint great and it seemed expensive then too. For reds Id add Maranges, Givry and Monthélie to your list by the way.

They make absolutely beautiful wine, no wonder it costs what it costs. 😬 And thank You for adding these wines to the list, it is good to see that we (regular people) can still afford some Burgundy, because who true wine lover wouldn’t want to? ☀️

Great topic. Awesome advice on how to find some value driven wines in the unfortunately overpriced market of burgundy wines. I’m still finding village and 1er cru wines that do not drink to their price, too basic, unripe, too much poorly integrated oak, just unbalanced., forget about drinking grand crus. 😡. They may suffer their own success I think when demand drops more, unless France starts paying to turn unsold wine into hand sanitizer like in Bordeaux and Languedoc. I guess we will see.
@NoSediment
@NoSediment 8 ай бұрын
I don’t think that will ever happen in Burgundy. It is really small wine region and there is not enough wine for everyone. Plus unpredictable weather usually limits yields as well. 😩 Bordeaux and Languedoc on the other hand were struggling to sell some of their wines, this is why it happened. 🤦‍♀️ But I do agree with the fact that not all wines are up to standard, and they don’t need to be, because it sells anyway! Unfortunately! 😬

the way i like to do it is try the producers at the village level, it gives you a good look not just glimpse into their 1er and even grand crus. just go with the producers you like

Exactly, this is what I said at the end. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Though, I will say this - some producers make decent wines at the regional and village level, but it not necessarily translates into a other greater terroirs. 😅

For many blue collar Pinot Noir and Chardonnay lovers, including myself, the higher the prices go in Burgundy, the more Sonoma wines are going to be open and rightfully enjoyed. Plenty of affordable and delicious Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, without worrying too much about the vintages. As you said, trust the producer, in Burgundy and elsewhere, and you will have a greater chance of getting a good deal. Anybody with money can buy great wines, all the time, the rest of us, have to go...value hunting 🎯 Thank you again for your great service, salud !
@NoSediment

Thank You for Your comment! 🙏🏻 I also think that value hunting goes hand in hand with learning about wine way deeper. Therefore, though, of course I want to be able to taste the famous labels, I am also opening myself to a new wine regions and up and coming producers. 🙌
