I have been trading for about 6 months now and just about every trade backfires and slaps me in my face. Nearly impossible for me to catch more than a few points I try to do top down analysis but it doesn't work for me . I say to myself, clearly I'm in the 90% that lose money, so I open a demo account, do my analysis, then take the opposite of what I would normally take and get the same result. I'm starting to feel hopeless, any advice for a struggling trader?

You’re right, it does depend on tour time frame. Looking at the expected changes in interest rates, now is an excellent time to buy long duration bonds such as TLT. You said it yourself, you expect yields to go down next year or the year after that. Do you know what that means for long duration bonds? Not only do you get the 5% yield, you also get the bond price increases for the decline in interest rates, which equals -MD. So if the modified duration (MD) is 17 (Like it is for TLT), you get -17 x -1% = 17% return for each 1% decrease in interest rates. Looking at the current rates of around 5%, they can have the potential to go down a long way in the near future, as the Fed will start cutting rates once the economy slows down or hits recession. Therefore, long duration bonds are a much safer bet right now, with a far better expected return, than stocks for the next 1-2 years, as stocks always underperform in a recession. I am substantially invested in TLT right now because of this. I’ll wait this coming recession out and see how far rates will drop, while earning a nice return on my TLT. Once the end of the recession and lower rates come in sight, i’ll move into stocks (SPY and QQQ) again.

You are right if nothing breaks, but a tbill investor is ready to pounce if the market crashes. Similar to how you say shares always go up.. history has shown there can be crashes. And if you liquidate your tbills(they go up in crisis) then you can switch to stocks at a far far far better entry point

Treasury yields and other safe cash-like investments are raising high returns, yet most investors believe this is a good time to buy stocks despite crash. I'd love to spread across $400k into profit yielding dividend equities and end the year well, but unsure of which to get acquire

a thing to realize is that mkt volatility is inevitable and every investor who wants to outperform must master the skill of stock valuation. its time in the market not timing the market, and the key to having an optimal portfolio is by diversification of asset classes. You should work with a financial advisor

It it truly guaranteed? It's only guaranteed by the full faith and taxation power of the US government. Our credit rating just got smacked again and our ability to pay back the debt is starting to look more and more suspect. Your only guaranteed that return if you hold your bind for the entire 30 years. Who is going to do that right now when your principal is at risk of loss when rates go higher. Rates will go higher.

Hi Adam, great video! I have a question. You say at 8:25 that interest rates will go down. So why not next to stocks also buy TLT or EDV then? You get 4% interest and the value will increase when the interest goes down. I am interested to hear your answer. Thanks!

If you are a good day-trader, scalping trades... you will average much higher than 5%. Now, if you wan't to argue swing-trading or (even worse) long-term trading, then the argument to get bonds might be persuasive.

Hi Adam, I have a no-nonsense question I really like to ask about company stock. It's AQB - AquaBounty Technologies Inc. This company has existed for quite a while and is really into gene technology to make salmon grow more significantly bigger than its usual size. This company has however never seemed to profit by far and has dipped far way below its original stock price even 20 times below pre-covid season. The question is this. Since it's not an empty shell company, how does such a company still stay valid operating for so long.

Hi Sifu, I realized that you are using cumulative rate of return (time average return, TMA) in terms of percentage to measure your portfolio performance? Why not use unrealized profit and loss? Isn't that your net liquidation value? My unrealized profit and loss percentage is way lesser than TMA performance.

The only thing is disagree about is that companies have grown quicker in recent years and will continue to grow quicker. The reason why companies seem to grow so quickly the last 3 years is because too much money is being printed and injected into the economy. That is why despite all the quantitative tightening efforts from the fed, companies are still beating earnings. The US has a serious inflation issue.

It does. But they are attacking the "consumer side" of spending with higher interest rates. The FEDS are doing nothing to taper off the Trillions being printed by the FEDS and fed into both the war machine, and federal green projects which will never recoup a fraction of the expenditure. It just feels like it is only the Consumer being punished. If they were serious about taming inflation, the FEDS would reduce their overseas (and local project) expenditures to the tune of about 2 Trillion dollars. Keep in mind, the MAJOR companies are doing good with earnings, but smaller companies are already struggling with debt which needs to be financed at a much higher rate.
