My dad told me a story about how when he was in his teens, him and a bunch of friends were driving somewhere. But someone parked their car in the middle of the road, so they got together and picked it up and put it in the grass and drove off.

We used to walk through a large dealership back lot at night and would occasionally move a compact car into an impossible position. Four guys can easily pick up the back end and move a manual transmission FWD car in neutral with the parking brake set.

Where I went to college, the building was on a hillside going lower than the road and parking lot and the edge of all the parking lot surrounding the school had a 1-2 foot drop down to the grass and all the sidewalks/delivery ramps had 1 foot stone walls segments along them. 6 guys managed to move my smart 12 feet to the pavement edge, and put it down on the grass. After the auto class stopped laughing, they made a ramp so I could get it back onto the parking lot. Drove us crazy trying to figure out who did it until graduation where the guys came up and gave me a framed picture of them moving it.

Daniel Wilson smarts are rear wheel drive with a rear transverse mounted engine... The parking brake acts on the rear wheels just like all cars that I know of.

All the weight is in the rear in these cars, that's why the front weren't moving, they were the only wheels these guys were able to lift off the ground. The rears were dragging against the clutch, because this model, the first sold in the US, has a park position, the previous version, and the one I own, would have been in neutral when turned off.

I owned a gas-powered Smart some years ago. They're hard to move horizontally but crazy easy to TIP UP ON THE NOSE. Today, I own an electric Smart. No one will ever tip it let alone move it horizontally. The battery runs the entire length of the car. HEAVY.

You can wreck the transmission of Smart Car pushing or pulling it - remember the engine is under the back of the car driving the rear wheels, and users are instructed to park their Smarts with the gears set in reverse. So forcing one forward is really not a good idea !

So what? Spectacularly unimpressive. In high school a bunch of kids picked up a teacher's Honda Civic and turned it sideways in a parking space by hand, no straps. Also, while my friend and I were sitting in my Datsun 510 listening to the radio at lunch, a couple of the same idiots came and picked up the rear end. So I fired it, threw it in reverse and gunned it. It was a rear wheel drive sedan. The headmaster came out and asked me to turn it off and let them go. We compromised. He said I could keep them there for a half hour.

It's rear wheel drive, with rear wheel parking brake. As long as the rear wheels are lifted, I think they will get away with this without causing damage. The bigger problem is the guy in the blue shirt who I noticed was lifting the car by plastic bodywork. XD That's about a 1800lb car with fuel. Lighter than most, but not as light as it looks. It weighs about as much as larger volume Japanese kei cars like a Suzuki Wagon R or almost as much as a Honda Acty van.

They did not lift it. All they needed was a small wheeled jack under the rear round tube, and then 2 guys with straps in front pull. Most of the weight is in the back where the Engine, Transmission, Drivetrain are located.

All they had to lift one rear tire of the ground. Park pin locks output shaft of the transmission. Rear diff is open. Thus one wheel in air will spin opposite direction that the car is moving. No damage to anything on the car. Evn those straps didn't do anything to the car. But this was way to much work then it should have been.

I own an s-Class, dodge viper and a smart cabrio. It be no dif if someone tried to push any 3 of my cars. Using a strap under the car actually bents the side panels and possibly the fuel lines. That is horrible

I wonder why they really moved the car in the first place. as a truck driver, the driver could have straight backed then slightly turned his wheels left to leave, yet they took it upon themselves to move & potentially damage someone else car. Not to mention that's so unsafe & they put the car in a no parking zone with the yellow on the curb. Perfect video for court.
