When you use raw wood, it's a good idea to bake them in the oven at 200 degrees for about half hour to an hour (depending on how thick they are). It kills the parasites & dries the sap. Pinecones also need to be baked, so you don't have sap or bugs in your house. I put mine in parchment paper, so I don't ruin my baking sheets

@@gailbrown8710 no, it doesn't keep them from cracking. To stop that, there is a sealer that you dip them in, but it's kind of expensive. I suggest wood filler, then sanding them, unless it's a really big project. Good luck with your project

Tammie...I must confess something...lol...when I first happened upon your channel...the beauty here...intimidated me...the high-end, classy embellishments...I thought, were WAYYYYY out of my price range....so, I just watched anyway, because ALL of your creations were so...professional looking...and expensive looking..I could not help but be drawn to it...then....I started looking at thrift stores and garage sales for the items I could use to mimic your style....and BAM...that was the answer...I have found SO many GORGEOUS embellishments as a result...NOW...I can recreate some of these beauties!!! I cannot WAIT to make these gorgeous pumpkins...I happened upon a construction site that I pass every day...and worked up the gumption to ask the site boss for some scrap wood...and he was GLAD to oblige me...even helped me load it up!!! So...now...Im in business...I cannot wait to start these! Thank you so much for your absolutely AWESOME inspiration...and your channel! I am in LOVE with it! You have such an eye for beauty...and I love that you are a "fly by the pant" girl...and honest about it...I hate when a crafter gets on...and says "that is the look I was going for" ..that is intimidating to a newbie..lol...when I craft..well, it just comes out the way it comes out...most times, a success, but I dont think ANY crafter's idea comes out EXACT...but always ends up wonderful in the end...and to me, that is what it should be...inspiration...specific to that crafter..no one wants and EXACT copy....so sorry for the novelette here! Janet, that is the best comment I have ever read!! I can assure you I shop at the same places every week and I get stuff super cheap and even 75% off at the thrift store!!! I don't make things that I wouldn't give as a gift or put in my house as décor. So it might come from the Dollar Tree but it will not look like it came from DT when I am done. It might look expensive but I can assure it was not expensive to make. When I do use expensive things I will let everyone know. I should have paid the $10 to buy it, instead of the $40 it took to make it. 😂😂😂 And I am a fly by the seat of my pants crafter. I might have an idea going in, but sometimes it just evolves into something else. And sometime I just have to stare at it for a while until I get inspired or I move on to something else. The wood you sanded is cedar. It should smell so good. They look so good and unique. When I first looked pumpkin came into my mind due to the shape and the grain pattern. The wood round with the crack looks like a lily pad. The pumpkins are beautiful. The risers are beautiful also.

Tammie, I love all of these but the risers and pumpkins are amazing and beautiful. The risers are cedar wood and you do need to seal them with spray or something and the pumpkins i think are ash and they need to be put in the oven on a low heat like 200 for an hour or so put them on foil or something not your good baking pans then seal them. If they are fresh cut there not dry yet so you have to dry them out. But you don't have to the cedar, when you spray them it will bring the red or pink out in the wood. It just depends on what kind of cedar it is. I use to build furniture wood crafts, with my husband so he tout me all this stuff. Now I just do mainly small stuff. But I love your channel and try to watch all the time. God bless.

I just bought four freshly sawed pine rounds and am glad to read the baking tip. One is thick to be a pumpkin, the others thinner for risers. Now I need to find feet. I'm thinking old wooden thread spools if I can source some.

Oh yes, I love that idea! Yes, make sure to bake them I would suggest putting them in an oven bag and cutting a few slits in the top, so your house doesn't get stinky. Flip them over and continue baking them and cut a few more slits when you flip it over.
