My Mom had a Hoya for YEARS. It was always there when I was a child. She said it was from a cutting she got from one that was in our dentist's office. That was in the 60's. She recently passed away and when cleaning out her house, I snagged the Hoya. I can only remember it blooming once in the 60+ years she had it. She even took a picture at the time it bloomed, and had put that snapshot in the leaves. Knowing Mom, she was trying to let the plant know that this was what it was supposed to do! I have had it in my home for about 6 weeks now. I am hoping to get some blooms someday. I think it might be in a pot that is a bit too large, but the pot was painted by 2 of her great-grandsons and I don't have the heart to repot it yet. Maybe I am afraid I will kill it if I do!

Probably needs more sunlight to bloom. No direct sunlight.
@ItsMeCheryl1231Ай бұрын
@carolinaroach5938 It does get plenty of filtered light. It is about 3 ft from a west window. No direct sunlight. It is shooting out 4 vines, but no peduncles yet. Fingers still 🤞

My mum has a Carnosa that my aunt gave her as a cutting. We realised recently that she's had it over 30 years. It sits in a very shaded kitchen window but flowers constantly.

Hi Knot dude. When my grandmother passed away in 1989, I was blessed to inherit her hoya carnosa which at the time was growing in a southern light on her dining room table, very compact. I brought it home & placed in my south east plant room window &with in just a few weeks it was putting out lots of new growth & to my amazement it started to put out several blooms which were so beautiful & fragrant! At that time I knew nothing about Hoyas. It started to vine up into my window blinds which at the time, was fine. But then we moved and I got worried, because in order to move to new home, I had to cut it back alot as it had grown up & intertwined itself through the blinds. It survived the cuts and the move. I have estimated its age at approx 60 yes. It continues to flourish & bloom in a northeast window. Flowers are pink and fragrant. I took two cuttings yesterday so that I could propagate it for new plants. Thank you for all the information you provide on your you tube videos! I didn't know there were so many varieties. I am looking forward to finding out where I can find some of these. I also have a compacta which got to be about 10 feet long, in a northern window & because of neglect on my part, I lost it, however I did take a cutting at last min. and is now thriving and blooming in a north window! I am definitely a plant nerd.
@KnotDude2 жыл бұрын
Oh John, thank you so much for your comment. So glad to hear your heirloom carnosa survived and is thriving! My hoyas find their way through my blinds too. Afew grew a leaf and I also was unable to untangle it and had to cut it off. Trimming is good through. Promotes more videos growing! Thanks for watching my video!

wow what a story!! A 60 year old Hoya. How INCREDIBLE! TY for sharing it!
@johnburke5053 Жыл бұрын
Whatever you have to cut makes great cuttings and plants will start from it in two weeks. Each plant propagates better and stronger plants. Dont be afraid to trim off the old stuff that is no longer producing blooms because they never will. Lose the non flower producing growth and your plant will love you. Buy some LED grow lights for your hoyas and you will be amazed. I use 4 cloning strips and leave them on all day for about 16 hours. Hoyas love intense light

I can so relate to it "feeling like a job" statement. I love doing mixed media art, scrapbooking, jewelry making, etc and I foolishly allowed someone to convince me to start selling my work. Let me tell you....I "F"ing hated it. It drained me. Don't get me wrong, the money I made was good but it sucked the life out of me and took me well over 9+ months after I decided to stop selling...to get back into it just for the joy it brought me to create things! You do you Adam! True followers will be here.

I've only had it a year, so I probably have a while to wait still. But now I want to get the others you mentioned. I have been eying the sunrise for a while, so now I want it even more.

Welcome back. You have an amazing collection. Yes, when you bend over to sniff a flower, you are shoving your nose into the flower's genitalia... and leaves are lungs, roots are intestines. But that language is not very much poetic. And there's probably a freudian theory about your choice of words

I really enjoyed your video. I am new at hoya collecting which I stumbled on accidently. I am enjoying watching the little leaves grow to a bigger plant. I have only had 2 bloom. They were obscura which dropped off so soon & pubicalyx (red) is still in bloom for 2 weeks now & has 5 peduncles. The 5 hoyas you spoke of are in my wishlist & I hope to get soon. My problem is that no one ships to The Bahamas so I will have to arrange for collection in the USA. Thanks again & enjoy🥰🌱

Hi Adam! So glad to see your handsome face again! Please take as much time between videos as you need. I will enjoy any/all you do. I need me some blooming hoyas! All five of those are beautiful! I only have one large hoya and I think it is a Publicalyx. I've had it for years and it's only bloomed 3 times, but smells heavenly. I can only smell it at night and that's when I know it bloomed. 😉 I have a single hoya bella vine in a little vase of water that just finished blooming. I couldn't smell a scent, but at least it bloomed, I was so shocked! The other hoyas I have are just cuttings. I'm really hoping to find some reasonable priced larger plants. 🤞 Thank you for putting the links for the podcasts. I've been wanting to watch them, but know nothing about podcasts. Thank you so much for sharing! BTW, loved the editing and little "clips" you added!
