You are the small engine guru, I know you can get it running. Good job on the teardown.

Finally got my hands on that elusive 5HP vertical shaft. Rare critter down under. Did the rebuild, well most of it, and found I ordered the wrong gasket set. Case cover gasket and output oil seal being the only different parts 🙃 Still waiting for the muffler to arrive from the US, via Feebay's ultra slow shipping program.

When I was a 90s kid in 6th grade, my best friend had a go-kart with a B&S engine on it, with the gas tank lower than the carb. It was such a jank setup, so hard to tune right - I was constantly tweaking the fuel/air mixture as the gas was used up from the tank. We had a lot of fun though. I clicked this video the moment I saw the title. That B&S looks a lot like what was on my friend's kart.

Exactly what I need, but in vertical shaft mount configuration, for my late 1960s ride on mower. OHV version won't fit properly.

I have one of these powering a yard vac machine. I have put in a new carb and that worked for a season and then it was dying again the next year so I replaced the diaphragm and that worked for a few days but only after I found the carb to tank pickup tube was falling out of the bottom of the carb. Are those supposed to be loose in the carb bottom where they slide in? Now I'm not sure if rebuild the whole engine or keep trying to get the barb working. It seems to be using some oil and there's a lot of puffing coming out of the carb when trying to start it without a filter. I need this machine reliable.

I would say yeah I just need a little bit of a refresh on the motor and the Chinese knock off carburetors seem to work pretty good and they’re very inexpensive
