The only "problem" I have with that test is that after 32 YEARS of doing similar test and using his left hand, he might be a little too ambidextrous for it to be an accurate test. He's probably much better with his non dominant hand than most people since he, I assume, uses it relatively frequently to test stuff.

The "left-handed oil test" seems really cool to me because I'm pretty sure that's basically an exact simulation of what it would be like for me to use it with my low muscle tone and motor issues!! Most designers make products for their target demographic, while he makes designs that everyone can use, especially for people with weaker grips and muscular issues. one of the reasons why the core samplers used in geology and soil sampling work is because they're usually fairly thin in relation to their length, and that gives them the surface area they need to pull the soil (etc) out of the ground. Meanwhile that ice cream sampler is fairly wide and shallow, it's basically just a stamp

Traditional scoop is metal for the reason that warm water makes it cut through the ice cream easily and the warm scoop doesn't let the ice cream stick to itself nearly as much. There's a reason every ice cream shop uses them.

I worked at Baskin-Robbins for 5 years and can tell that most people don't know how to design or use an ice cream scoop correctly in the first place. The traditional metal scoop with no buttons or anything on it is best. Just run under cold water and skim the top of the icecream over and over keeping the wrist straight until a ball forms. Then it just slides right out because of the water. Don't mess with the basic design.

the last one is one that I've had for ages, I found it most effective to drag it through the ice cream underhanded instead of trying to dig. it gets perfect balls that way because the ice cream winds itself into the shape. works for the clicky scoopers, and it was a popular technique when I worked at coldstone.

Some of the metal pieces like the first one could work better if you run the metal piece under hot/warm water for a few seconds then use it on the ice cream. It would help a lot as it will somewhat melt the ice cream that the metal is immediately touching, making it easier to plunge into the ice cream. Also works for regular spoons

You really can't round the plunger where your hand goes for the one cookie sandwich maker. Gotta remember it's two sided, one for 3 inch sandwiches, the other for the larger ones; So rounding one side of the plunger would be detrimental to its intended functionality.

the first gadget had the button so you'd be able to push down on top of the plunger without touching the icecream with it, letting you get further down. the second gadget had the twist in the handle to allow air flow without slowing the plunger or getting stuck. Great video, and love your other ones too. The left handed test is very useful for pointing out flaws, and for relating issues some people have just trying to perform simple tasks. Thank you for your work
