Im digging this format for "top 5 lists" Engaging and quick without all bells and whistles
@theperfectboardgame8 ай бұрын
Thanks! My goal was to do it in 5 minutes, and I cut it down to under six, so I’m counting it a win. As far as bells and whistles are concerned, I’ve decided that next time it will be worth the effort to include footage of my plays.

@@theperfectboardgame That's totally a win! It's hard to do. For your decision to include footage, I think that's great! Honestly, I just love watching folx creativity and doing what they love the way they want to do it

Thanks for this video! Board games can get really expensive where I'm from so I need to get the best bang for my buck. I want games with high replayability so I can keep playing it!

Hansa! The simplicity of the ruleset for a Eurogame with that depth is unmatched for us so far. Its also one of the few interactive Euro games we've played that plays excellent at both 3 and 5 players. When my group climbs up to five players we tend to lean away from Euro games because the playtime and downtime between turns can get out of control, but not an issue with Hansa.

I have become hooked playing Gang of Dice on Boardgamearena. It is amazing. That the 6 (The Gang member) is a "non-value" is plain genius.

Lately we’ve been playing a lot of cars games with our kids, Mind Up and Cover Your Assets being our current plays. We’ve also gotten into Splendor, Catan, Micro Macro, and Pandemic with our kids. As a result I don’t have tons of games for myself that I am playing but I do have ones I am excited to try out/play again. I want to try The Fox Experiment and It’s a Wonderful World, and Takenoko. And I’ve been really wanting to revisit Everdell. I will say Sunrise Lane is a new favourite play, and I finally got to try Obsession on BGA, and now I want to play it again! Enjoyed this different format, nice to see you trying out new things!

I’ve always been an “I’ll play anything type of player” but I’ve been getting a taste for mid complexity games (still am but it’s been an interesting upward trajectory in terms of what I feel confident in playing)
@theperfectboardgame8 ай бұрын
I am still building my game circles here, so I've been playing a wide variety of games as I get to know people and what they like. The great thing about "playing anything" is it makes it very easy to meet people and make friends.😊

Ticket to Ride with it’s many stand-alone versions and expansion maps is a game, or shall I say games, that we frequently return to. Just trying my first small box (city) version, Berlin. Just one play-through so far, but I like what it is meant to be and can be a great introduction to the Ticket to Ride realm. Carcassonne is another game we tend to return to.

Really enjoying playing Isle of trains at the moment. A lot of game in such a small box.

I’ll have to take a look at it again. I first saw it when it was a prototype and had it demoed. Never played though. I do LOVE games with multi-use cards.

How is hansa teutonica at 2 , however we found Thurns and taxis as a replacement Thanks for doing the video love seeing you give your thoughts especially on older games, right now too many reviewers and just pushing the new games while yet there are still undiscovered gems

So I didn’t realize this until I was asked in another comment, but the newer edition of Hansa doesn’t include the two-player variant. You can read about it if you look up a PDF of the original rules. There is basically a way to reduce the size of the board and force more interaction. I haven’t tried it myself. I will definitely make a video like this again. I enjoy showing off games that have endured the test of time.

Acquire goes on my list. In another world, it’s in every household instead of monopoly

Man, I have never played it, but I just read the rules. Sounds like a great money game with luck but more reasonable betting on the possibility of future mergers. I approve of this alternate universe!

What's your argument against Caverna being the "better" version of Agricola according to many reviewers?
@theperfectboardgame8 ай бұрын
It’s been a long time since I looked at Caverna. After reading the rules, I decided not to try it and I never have. Instead of giving you an argument based on experience, I can only give you a general impression: Uwe makes too many games. He’s a genius, but then he recycles some of his best ideas and often adds even more to them. How do you improve perfection? I don’t like games that are complex for the sake of being complex. What I admire about Agricola is its intentional restraint: everything about the game is thematically motivated and the tightness of the farming economy creates a very real pressure. As I remember it, Caverna is just “Agricola, but more”

Huge thumbs up for Cosmic Encounter, the epitome of whacky yet smart games. Unfortunately my group doesn't revisit a game already played often 😅 i hate the culture of the new
@theperfectboardgame8 ай бұрын
I think I may have played Cosmic Encounter more times than any other game, and with a wider variety of people. I say this, even though I also generally prefer euro games. One thing I do like about culture of the new is learning new games and seeing how they innovate old ideas.

The copy of Hansa I have says 3-5 players. Did the original play at 2?
@theperfectboardgame8 ай бұрын
I’m sorry for the lack of clarity. Yes, the original has a variant for 2-player games (It uses “border guards” which sort of reduce the number of routes that are available on a player’s turn and force interaction.) I have only played 3- and 4-player with the newer edition (which belongs to a friend. I don’t actually own copy.) I didn’t realize this new edition didn’t include the variant.
@BobbyJuno8 ай бұрын
@@theperfectboardgame I still have my copy of the Big Box in shrink. I don't think my kids are ready for it but I might look into this 2 player variant and get it on the table.

Thanks for your candid feedback! I see your point about the lack of game footage. This video was an experiment in a more casual, discussion-focused format, which is a change from my usual style that includes game shots. I'm curious to hear what others think too. Does the community prefer the usual format, or are you open to occasional videos like this? Your input is incredibly valuable and will definitely guide my future content. Appreciate your support and understanding as I explore different ways to share my thoughts on games!
