I think she had to have one or probably more men helping her with things. Because its not just dealing her period but bathing and dressing too. Not help actually doing those things but keeping others away while she was doing them and also just helping reinforce her story and any excuses (like not bathing nor undrsessing/changing in front of the men). I just can't imagine she could do it all on her own for 12 years.

Hygiene might not have given her away, since she was such an active person. Really active women have little or practically no pms because of the decrease in body fat and increase in testosterone that comes from working out. So any cleanliness routines wouldn't have been obvious. Plus, being from a well known family meant you would be expected to have better hygiene then the masses.

This is a really good point. And I agree. (When I'm unable to take medicine for cramps I ride my bike, workout, or play dancing games as it relieves the pain a little, so long as I keep going at it.)

Kousei13 Hmm, I've never used working out as a form of cramp control. It wouldn't work too well for me, but I have a friend that goes running and it does wonders for her.

Everyone experiences it a little different. Periods are no fun, but compared to others I have it pretty easy. I only have cramps for two days and my periods are only 5 days total. My cramps feel like my insides are being stretched, though it makes sense since it's partly due to contractions. If I don't have medicine I can last two hours before I feel like collapsing from exhaustion due to the pain spreading to my thighs, trying to function, and fighting the urge to go into fetal position. (I discovered this while having to work when my period started in the middle of the day.)
@lone6718
@lone6718 9 жыл бұрын
Kousei13 first cramps I ever experienced I ended up in the ER. Doctors thought my appendix was about to burst. But nope, just my first period. So that's the usual for me I guess. I can kind of function, but I'm really quiet and super slow. Anything over the counter is useless to me, so I have to have prescription stuff. So yeah, I totally get it.
@Kiku91
@Kiku91 9 жыл бұрын
I know someone who once had cramps that were so bad she kept throwing up and several hours later had to go to the ER for dehydration. Not her best day. Switched to birth control after that which helped, but she still has her days. I feel bad at times like this. I'm sorry you have to have it rough. A downside to being female I guess.

In case anyone want to know, here is the original edition of the Ballad of Mulan in Chinese: 《木兰诗》 唧唧复唧唧,木兰当户织。

"Khan is conscripting many soldiers." Have you guys wondered why the poem refers to the king as "khan", which is more of a title for Mongolic or Turkic tribes (i.e. Genghis Khan)? Fact # 6: The state which Mulan fought for (Northern Wei) was actually not a Chinese state, even though it adopted high degree of Chinese culture and political system. The Northern Wei was founded by the Xianbei people (a nomadic tribe who might originated from Siberia) and was not considered to be "Chinese" at its time. Interestingly, the "barbarian" Mulan fought against (Rouran) was actually a closely related tribe; its was like a fight between cousins, rather than a war between the civilized and the barbaric. If an individual like Mulan existed, I suspect her image would not be typically Chinese as how the animation portrayed her.

+sea Thats very possible. If she was living the hard life of a soldier then probably she would just stop menstruating anyway and it would be easier to cover up. It would also help if, as some versions of the story suggest if she had a couple of male companions `in the know` to help in the deception. After a few years and once she became an officer with some authority it would get easier. There are actually a number of documented cases of real female soldiers from a number of cultures and time periods so the story isn`t totally implausable.

While I have always loved the Disney version of Mulan, even as a child I knew that Disney versions of stories didn't hold a lot of accuracy because they wanted to make it more appealing to a child. I have watched Chinese versions of it as an adult, and while I loved the story much better, the charm of the Disney version is still in my heart. Especially Mushu, he was a funny little dragon and I love him a lot, the biggest reason is for what you featured in the video. That part still makes me giggle as an adult. "THAT'S IT! DISHONOR! DISHONOR ON YOU! DISHONOR ON YOUR COW!" I couldn't think of a more perfect voice for that than Eddie Murphy's.
@ellasorrow4stolas445

Same here. I was shock when some people thought he was real. No! His dragon.. me personally I don't believe in dragon. Anyway Disney change some part to attract kids attention. I wish they already made her skill. Btw all the cast is Chinese in Disney Mulan. Eddie Murphy is the only non Chinese that is pretty obvious.

Thanks for sharing this. It brings a much better and down-to-Earth view of ancient and modern view of China. I was little when I first watched Disney's Mulan and hadn't ever met any Chinese people, but I somehow thought that Chinese people didn't act like the people in that movie, let alone ancient Chinese people. A couple years ago I visited the Terracotta warriors digsite in China and they look a lot calmer and nobler than all the soldiers in Disney's Mulan (even after the successful training montage). I loved the art and colors in Mulan though. That at least got me interested in learning more about China.

If a woman's testosterone level is high enough for when it is her time of month, then she doesn't get her period. It's just a possibility considering how manly she was. Not to mention a tremendous amount of stress from war can also stop this

I remember watching the disney making of Mulan. They played with the idea of Mulan liking weaponry and fighting as a child, but then decided not to include it because they wanted her motivation to join the army out of love for her father and not because it was her own self interest.

The only true fact is that Mulan was living Northern Wei. Only peasants in Northern Wei were Chinese, and other people were Mongolian Touba Xianbei people. Invading aliens were other Mongolian nation Rourans. So the war can be considered as civil war in Mongolia.

They couldn't or it wouldn't get the PG rating and it'll be bumbed up to R given the certain scenes and gore. Since they're remaking the movie I hope they'll do the new Jungle Book route and combine both Disney and the original story to make it interesting and more accurate to the original tale with some liberties.

If Mulan disguised her identity successfully for 12 years, there is NO WAY that she looked as pretty as Disney's version. The true Mulan knew the arts of war and excelled at them. Why did she even think she could get away with putting herself forward as a MALE warrior in the first place? Cos she LOOKED like a man, ACTED like a man and FOUGHT like a man... ... and NOT like some Disney princess!

I would like to say that I think that you are wrong about the message of the animated film. I think the true story and the film have the same message. Both emphasize honor and doing things for your family. At the end of the movie all Mulan wanted to do was go home and see her father. The romance was a very tiny portion and not really a romance. They did not kiss, they did not even admit feelings for each other, all that happened is that he stayed for dinner when returning her helmet. She did not go off to battle in the movie for a boy...none of her motivations were boy related, unlike most other Disney movies.

+Magia Girl Thank you! The Disney movie isn't a bad movie, just a bad representation of the historical legend. On its own merits it's a fun movie with beautiful animation, and is a great example of filial piety and honor. Although, seeing how bad-ass real Mulan was, the Disney version really got ripped off. It's rare that you see a movie that's less cool than the source material.
@MagiaGirl
@MagiaGirl 8 жыл бұрын
bellairis29 They were making it for kiddos. If we wanted a badass Mulan story Disney is not who should make it anyway....unless it was for their live action movies. But they (Disney) may add more of the original tale when they do the live action version.
