My favourite love story in Chinese history is Lu Yu's love for tea, because it's not sad, and it's the one I can relate to most. I might not have much chance of hooking up with beautiful heavenly maidens, but at least I can have some quality time with a cup of tea. :P

Why have you not included the very popular legend of the " White Snake" that became a human beauty named "Bai Su-Jin" ? This story had even been made into a ballet drama ( in ancient Chinese costumes) , & it was performed overseas in the west. I saw it in Toronto, Canada in the early 1990's ! And the legend has been told in many Chinese movie remakes & every performing arts format - opera, dance drama, concert,...etc. Legend: Bai Su-Jin met her beloved scholar Xu Xian at West Lake. They got married & lived happily. Bai worked as a medical healer to help the poor & cured people of diseases. Her husband continued to work hard in his studies for the Imperial Exam. But later, her true identity was discovered by the Buddhist High Priest Fa-Hai who eventually locked her up inside the Tower of Thunder, & ordered her shocked husband to become a monk in order to receive redemption !! Bai Su-Jin had no choice but to fight the High Priest with all her powers. She brought on a big flood that drowned the Temple, & it also destroyed many lives, farms & livelihood in the nearby area.

The cowherd actually stole the fairy's clothing when she came down to bathe with her sisters, so she couldn't fly back, think some version of the legend included them getting married and having kids...also, the cow had to die to allow the cowherd to fly with his kids...I think.... Such sad stories😔😔😔

You know the Japanese are like the US to China's England right? There are even native japanese.
@GwenApMannanan
@GwenApMannanan 9 жыл бұрын
First off, your comment only barely makes sense. I know quite a bit about both countries, their histories (including their shared histories in ancient and modern times) but that doesn't mean that I know all of the holidays and all of the stories for both cultures. I've never been around for 7/7 celebrations or heard my Chinese friends tell that story, so my context was from my experience with the Japanese holiday. Thanks for trying to be rude though after I made a genuine comment of appreciation.
@ThePicturePixie
@ThePicturePixie 9 жыл бұрын
Gwen Ap Mannanan ... 1 not being rude. 2 you are by being a know it all 3 The Us was founded by some English who wanted to leave the country. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ainu_people ^^The Native Japanese.
@GwenApMannanan
@GwenApMannanan 9 жыл бұрын
I have not done a single thing in this that would qualify me as acting like a 'know it all'. My first comment thanked them for expanding my knowledge and my second comment stated pretty clearly that I don't know everything. And please, just stop trying to 'teach' me history because: 1. I live in the U.S. currently and am quite educated on it's history. 2. I have already mentioned that I studied the history of the Chinese and Japanese peoples, including their shared histories and am aware of their origins. 3. You clearly haven't actually understood a single comment I have made thus far. 4. You are exhibiting the exact qualities you are accusing me of and are being rude, even if you don't realize it, because of reason number 3.
@ThePicturePixie
@ThePicturePixie 9 жыл бұрын
Gwen Ap Mannanan You're coming off as a rude know it all. My first comment was stating if you think of Japan = Us, Korea = Canada and China = England. the Japanese come from china which is why they have their myths and kanji. You're being kind a jerk for no reason :( oh and Russia = France

I heard about a few of these stories, from a cartoon about worldwide myths and fables. I loved hearing them, when I was a kid. Especially the one about the cowherd and the girl weaver (a.k.a Altair and Vega), although the one I heard was bit different, because the girl's father was mentioned, rather than her mother. :) Also, I love the way you guys draw each of the stories, and the characters. I went to Italy with school for a week and we saw "Juliette's grave" with the butterfly lovers' statue. I explained to them that they were the 'Chinese version' of Romeo & Juliette (I got that from one of your videos) and one of the girls said: "We're not here for the fake Rome & Juliette! I want to see the real one!!" That same girl also kept asking during the entire trip in Verona is Romeo & Juliette was real..

The interpretation of Meng Jiang Nu's name is incorrect. She is not the daughter of an Mr. Meng but rather Mr. Jiang, the middle character in her name. The character for "Meng" in classical Chinese denotes the eldest of children in a family. Ergo her name means "eldest daughter of the Jiang family" and not "the daughter of Mr Meng and Ms. Jiang"
