I would LOVE an "Eric evaluates Arkham Card" video. Would be fun to hear their thoughts on the card as a newbie! :)

The perspective of a new player is nice to see, especially when they can articulate their opinion beyond a simple “they just look neat, I guess. I dunno”.

heyy! as a new player I think it would be really valuable to have a rundown of the standalone scenarios! You guys have been an incredible source of info and our group would love to try the wackier standalone but doesn't know which one to start with especially with some seeming to require a massive group of 16 players. Thanks for your time ^^

it's cool eric picked diana for their list because when i started playing arkham in fall 2021, she was the first investigator i played, and i played her once for dunwhich and once for carcosa. She's still one of my favorite investigator's that i played. Also worth noting that i was comming from a background of having played MANY years of MTG so spot on with being fine with card game experience. (originally only picked her because she was a cultist and i liked that vibe)

Awesome! Love the energy Eric brings to these videos. Like everyone else already said, the unspoiled excitement they brought to the Thrones videos will be fun in Arkham too. Especially because they were greatly invested in those (Redhall) role-playing videos back then. Should translate to a different appreciation for the game.

I've played Luke and Diana. I would play both again. Diana was the first full deck build I did and fell in love with the willpower does everything mechanic of mystics. Gate Box goes brrr but I equated it to Doctor Who's TARDIS rather than smoking haha.

A series of a new player getting into the game could be incredible. If you are able to show them learning the game it could be great for new players. Really interesting in this video to see someone come into the game with ideas of a 3 being a strong stat whereas long time players know a 5 is what you want to learn into a good stat. Will look forward to seeing any of this related content and hope you show the learning process

In my first game I played Emergency Cache to activated skids ability. I realised I was down a card and up 1 resource and concluded Emergency Cache was terrible. I would love to see Eric evaluate a mix of the best and worst cards, just for the chance to see somebody make the same mistakes as me.

Another vote for Eric to evaluate cards. It wouldn’t be to laugh at him, but I find humor in my new-to-Arkham opinion that Dr. Milan Christopher was not very good. Watching someone else try to evaluate cards without the knowledge of effective strategies would be fun.

Love to see more new players. And reactions to cards and the game. It also allows you to help Eric navigate some of the fiddliness of the rules and focus on story rather than cards. I find myself often losing sight of one when focusing to much in the other.

What a great idea! I would really enjoy you 2 going through campaigns from the start, but as i do with new players is that i let them build their own deck but not from a full collection. For example, you play Dunwich campaign, you play with core+starter decks+that campaign, here dunwich, and that's it. That way they can try new cards each cycle and not get overwhelmed. I'm honestly excited, a breath of fresh air!

As a note, Eric's fundamental misunderstanding of Calvin is the idea that Calvin wants to be healed. Honestly, that's not too different my *my* own initial (but opposite) fundamental misunderstanding of Calvin, which was that Calvin wanted to deal himself damage/horror/trauma. What Calvin wants is *soak* (and various other ways to not-die), so that he doesn't die while he sits at near-max stats, and preferably to have a 1dmg/1hor enemy show up for him to "power up" to near-max stats via, or else have ways to contribute despite having no stats. Healing just hurts your ability to do things, and will generally actually make Calvin *more* vulnerable (unless he's at max stats and you haven't drawn Voice of the Messenger yet, or the encounter deck has certain -1-health/sanity or direct damage/horror effects). Meanwhile, a lot of the time he doesn't actually need to damage himself as long as the encounter deck can provide a convenient source (like a full rounds worth of attacks of opportunity from a 1dmg/1hor enemy), and trauma is something to be *very careful* with in a longer campaign -- you want "trauma space" to be available for Voice of the Messenger to rack it up instead; trauma will come naturally. Self-damage stuff just becomes unusable at max-stats (Spirit of Humanity being a notable exception). (Like, Calvin is probably the only character that I'd actually consider taking a particular normally-not-worth-it supply in TFA -- although by being careful about trauma elsewhere, it's still not necessary. Well, assuming you're okay with being done in by post-campaign trauma instead :P. Calvin's the only investigator I've ever lost to that, despite the team-as-a-whole winning.)

Video title is: “board game savant new to this game wants to play all the weird shit.” All 3 of you main Arkham bros are are charming, smart as fuck, and have your own adorably idiosyncratic takes on the game. And this person just prances in and is like, “I don’t even know this game but I already have my own insightful takes and I want to double down on the weird stuff.” Love this person. More please.

I recently played through a campaign with Stella. In a weird way, her ability creates card advantage in that you try marginal tests without committing cards, so you end up having having more cards in hand to use later because you passed some of those marginal tests.
@davidko9289 Жыл бұрын
Hard yes to new player card takes. Will Eric be building decks from scratch? Or with guidance from Justin? Or will Justin build the decks? Would you consider playing on Easy? Justin can play mediocre decks and Eric can onboard more easily. Carson in 2p gives 16% more actions (7 instead of 6) instead of 3p with 11% (10 instead of 9). The downside is Carson's subpar actions are a greater percentage too.

Thanks for the video! 😃 I got into Arkham LCG last year and started with Daisy in the base box, and then went to Diana Stanley for the circle undone. I have dream eaters, and the edge of the earth I just need to get them and start one. So far I have only played solo, but I need to get my husband to give it a go on the next campaign perhaps.
@RAPHBENOIT Жыл бұрын
I suggest you play 2 characters, even when playing alone, instead of true solo! It opens up WAY more fun builds and interaction, instead of being stuck trying to be average in everything (clue getting/combat/survival/etc)

I love how Luke Robinson was presented as a good option for new players …As If .. this wouldn’t be overly confusing haha
@PlayingBoardGames Жыл бұрын
In the video itself, I recommend Eric start with Stella of their 5 options. Luke certainly has a lot of complexities, but I'd wager if a player plays them for their 3rd or 4th campaign, most of those complexities won't come up.
@anaphysik Жыл бұрын
Much of the argument for Luke is that his weird-and-often-difficult-to-deal-with abilities are *optional*. They're not *necessary* to just playing him most of the time (unlike, say, Calvin or Preston's gameplay), they're just extremely powerful when actually used. One *could* just play him as a 4-head mystic with seeker access, and ease in to using the two special abilities. In some ways, that's similar to Stella, who can be played "fairly" without relying on fail-to-win cards/Quick Learner/etc. This is a strong argument. ...However, I think Luke is nonetheless a horrible investigator for new players, as Luke and his abilities routinely break scenario mechanics and nullify scenario flavor. There are *plenty* of silly interactions in Arkham using mundane things, that one doesn't need Luke's we-can't-even-say-how-it-works-FLAVORWISE stuff just smearing mood. But I'm one of those people that likes viewing Arkham as an RPG-lite, not just as a card game.

So I've seen some recommendations from you to play Stella, built a deck, and the experience was kinda miserable. Her stats are pretty bad, so unless you know what you're doing, the additional action will also just be a failure. So I don't think this is a good recommendation for a new player, unless you help with deck building quite a lot

I'm wondering what is up with face masks? Have noticed that both Bryn and Eric is still using it even in a private setting. Is that common in the US? because here in Denmark no one is using any kind of PPE any more, not in private and not in public.

We're in Canada, so I can't answer how common it is in the US. But Bryn and Eric each have personal reasons for why they're wearing the masks in videos.
