Its worse here, our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.

"It's expensive to be poor" really is a truism. Sadly, everyone knows the score by now. A banger car is less reliable, less economical, probably isn't compliant with LEZs, you have to keep throwing away and changing them which means faff with the insurance and the tax. It's also a personal hassle. A more affluent person just buys a better car. Older kitchen appliances will be awful on energy and will probably be uneconomical to repair if they break. Some people don't have fridges and have to buy everything fresh at local convenience places which are more expensive anyway. A more affluent person will just buy all that stuff new and it'll run forever. Your cheaper clothes and shoes will wear out faster and need replaced more regularly. That irritating and trite "boots theory" springs to mind. Lower income and poor credit rating means you get inferior rates and terms on things like loans and mortgages. Overdrawn? That's more money, please. Some landlords won't rent to you. You want to move somewhere else for better prospects? What if you just can't afford it? You're trapped in place possibly forever, not earning or having enough to be able to afford that kind of transition. You can't afford things to make you more productive? You likely can't _be_ more productive and work your way out of this. The cycle continues.

Noise-cancelling headphones are a blessing. For me, it does not only reduce distraction, but also external noise stressor, e. g. in the airplane or in the train. I prefer the Sennheiser headphones, though. The ear plugs are on another level. I can wear them in 10 hour flights and don't feel unconformable at all.

I agree with the point, noise having an impact on cognitive focus, I've heard it can impact physiological and emotional well-being. When it comes to noise cancelling, there are two options, cheaper passive noise cancelling (eg earplugs) will probably help with focus as much as the active noise cancelling headphones that Bose offer, but less practical if your focus work involves media work like Nischa’s I guess, or if you do need to quickly answer an online call. Tinnitus is something to beware off though, so best to have a work environment designed for focus, or take frequent breaks from noise block out devises, breaks will probably help with focus too!
