I don't know if I'm just desensitized or something but a lot of these don't really seem all that savage to me. For instance, Yuri in "Vesperia" is the biggest example. While, yes, he does outright commit murder, something that would be notable, the way those scenes all play out tend to end up being so silly that it takes away any seriousness they could have had. Ah yes, slowly walk towards your target while letting them over-the-top scream repeatedly in the middle of town at night. The fact that somehow nobody hears or notices just makes it so contrived to me. And it happens multiple times. Perfect "chef's kiss" example of being too try-hard with no self-awareness right there. But really, that's more just bad execution of a good idea. I will say that "SMT IV:A" example is a pretty good one, especially since the party members actually react to you betraying them. I've seen a handful of games do this ("Caligula Effect: Overdose", "Growlanser 4: Wayfarer of Time", "Exist Archive", etc) and it's a good way to hammer in how much of an irredeemable monster you are becoming. Though unfortunately this is often let down by how brief they tend to be, an hour or so at best if not just a single fight at the very end. It's one of the reasons why I appreciate "Soul Nomad" since, while still not perfect with it either, it goes the extra mile by having you turn evil be an entire alternative route that lasts a good couple hours. You actually witness the lasting effects of your decision and how everything falls apart as a result of your actions. Not to mention there's always Caim from "Drakengard", who is almost cheating to bring up. It's no wonder why we haven't seen a character like him since or likely will ever again.

Spoilers for Grandia 3: One moment for me that comes to mind is from Grandia 3. I may not like the game's gameplay and the story isn't nearly as good as 2's, but there are some epic moments from it. One being the main antagonist killing off the deities of this world. You only see the death of 2 of them (2 others are off screen), but yeah was still crazy to me so see these chars get killed.

subtle Tales of Arise bashing in there, ToA has one too, when a random nameless NPC reveals that: Theres no such thing as Renans, they are Danhans, the only difference is that nanomachines let them use magic, the conflict for 90% of the game was moot, the party members refuse to believe him and never mention this again

Phantasy Star IV had a similar moment to Final Fantasy VII, in some ways it is a bit more savage and painful. I wouldn't be opposed for Final Fantasy VII Remake in keeping Aerith alive. Spoilers for the Remake below In some ways they did bring her back, since the Remake can be seen as a sequel to Final Fantasy VII, and Aerith does know that Sephiroth will kill her in the future. Also Sephiroth does seem the be the same Sephiroth from Advent Children.
