Well Atelier Rorona Plus was one of the first RPG I played that required a build for an endgame (no difficulty option), the only annoying part was not getting the events the first time so I could make a self ressurection build for all characters, sure enough it worked. And damage builds in the game aren't really great unless you make the bomb perfectly everytime (no NG+ for that) or make a skill build and who actually does that in that game?

How hard is SMT4 Apocalypse compared to SMT Nocturne? Is it harder? Haven't played any of both, but I want to.
@WhiteFangofWar5 жыл бұрын
Not very, IMO. SMT4A has a few tough bosses towards the end but Nocturne is like that for most of the game. Even the normal encounters are capable of killing you if you're unlucky or unprepared for enemy abilities such as petrify or instant death. SMT4A also gives you the courtesy of being able to see encounters and hit them to get a first strike, while Nocturne's are completely randomized. Everyone moans about Matador but my Nocturne submission for this list would probably be either Mot or Beelzebub.

White knight chronicles 2. The final boss made me break a couple controllers, not to mention he’s a completely cheat boss. A little background about the game for those who’ve never played it. WKC 1 & 2 you play as the main character who’s the hero (can’t remember his name) and a created character that acts as his best friend. Some stuff happen and the hero gains the power to turn into a giant magical knight (as you can guess his is white) which you can freely use in battles agains regular and giant enemies. You also gain other party members who have the same ability albeit different styles knight frames, I think there were 3 of them, 4 if you unlocked the secret one for your created character in a secret dungeon. Now in WKC 2 the final boss possesses the main character and takes over his White Knight transformation and you fight him as such. The bullshit thing about the fight is, he’s much stronger than you, plus who completely blocks any other character from transforming into their knight forms so you’re fighting a giant enemy as regular people and his aoe attacks do so much damage that you run out healing items and mp for healing magic. Now you have a character that can heal and restore mp with her skills but she dies really easily

Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne/Lucifers Call. The fight against Lucifer himself. He was the reason I couldnt beat the first time I played it. He only shows up if you beat an relatively tough side dungeon prior to the final boss. But when he does you are in for some trouble. Only characters with "Pierce" do normal damage to him and you only get this abilty twice throughout the game. Once for the main character (ironically from Lucifer). And a demon you can buy in said side dungeon starts with it.

Lunar 2 ethernal blue final boss It was a boss at the end of a long dongeon (a tower if I recall correctly) in that dongeon, half teh creatures were almost immune to physical attacks forcing me to consume mp to a length I was uncofortable with since Lunar's mp restore items were the single most expensive items I coulld meet and they were very rare. after you pass through that dongeon you encounter a boss who's vulnerability will randomly change every few turns or so... forcing you to cast spells just to figure out what he is weak to and hope you didn't fall on the element that healed it that turn. You are out of mp regen items and your mana is low... yeah I didn't stand a chance. when my memory card curropted I never even tried to get back to it after that.

I can recall 3 examples of getting my but handed to me. Oh I've had hard fights too, but 3 where I thought I was prepared but well, I wasn't. 1st came the first JRPG I ever played, Grandia II and it was my first time going up against the Eye of Valmar. What made this boss such a pain was 3 things. First was its 4 smaller 'eye minions' that can do a major attack on any of your guys, but seeing how they're easy to kill they aren't the biggest problem. Biggest issues come 2 parts of the eye that can cause sleep or poison. Those are so annoying. I did die that first time facing it, but I did beat it the next time. 2nd comes from Skies of Arcadia. It comes from the Executioner. I've played this game multiple times and it's still my 2nd fav game of all time. Anyway, last time I played this guy, for some reason I ended up dying 3 times! And I am a Grinder too so I was like, "WTF!" I literally yelled when I defeated this guy. I have gotten problems with this guy, but being a veteran JRPGier and to get whooped like that after playing that game for years, it was a bit embarrassing. 3rd time comes from Grandia 3. This game was overall easier for me boss wise compared to Grandia 2, however, it has one major problem. There was a HUGE difficulty spike from the 2nd last boss to the final boss. First time I played it, I was over 50 lvls. I got wiped out fast! And the boss before this one was easy. I did eventually defeat it though after like 5 tries. 2nd time I played the game, I went up to lvl 70. It was still hard though and I died 3 times. Finally the last and 3rd time I played, I ended up grinding to lvl 99, which is the max. Here's the thing. From the time I started to the time I lvled to 70, it only took me several months of to get to. However, from lvl 70 to maxing out, it took the same amount of time because the leveling system takes forever! So it shouldn't have to take me that long to max out just to defeat one boss. Oh btw, even with the max out, I almost died once. But man that difficulty spike at the end, I don't know if I'll ever play this particular game again because it sucked all the fun out of it.

I managed to pull of that stupid chocobo race in FFX, such bullshit I feel your pain. I think the absolute biggest ass whupping I ever recieved in an RPG was 100% completing DIgital Devil Saga. The secret boss in that game is such massive amounts of bullshit, you have to exploit a loophole in the AI. It doesn't matter if all your stats were maxed out and you had every skill (which I did have) that fight is still complete bullshit. I managed to do it but never again, 200 hours sunk into that game, holy shit.

Sounds like it was worth it tho for DDS?

ShadowEliteHD Not really, you can only fight the boss on your second playthrough. By the end of the game I was sick of it.

Tales Games... I always play games on the hardest possible difficulty, but Tales games get real fucking unfair on the hardest difficulties.

Kelvin Kegel Especially since the hardest difficulty cuts down on how much EXP you get and makes every enemy a brick wall.

Look. I used to have the same mentality of never going on easy, but legit I have so much more time and less stress because of it I kinda shake my head when people are too stubborn to play the game on easy. Especially considering you can get to more games and enjoy yourself and time more. I'm not saying I dont like a challenge, I just dont like to waste my time. So legit, nothing wrong with playing easy mode folks, just another way to enjoy a game. (Also I have a mr.perfect on mm10, so I get a pass for life)

This was actually a really good topic. The one I can really relate to the most is the chocobo racing for final Fantasy X. I think that race was easily the most frustrating thing I had to do in that game in order to consider it 100% completed. Playing all that blitzball certainly didn't help as well. Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep definitely gave me a lot of frustration as well, but it definitely it wasn't because of Xenohort. The mysterious figure (a bonus boss) was easily one of the most frustrating rpg battles I've ever had in my entire life. I swear I must of battled him at least 200 times before i finally beat him. With regards to completing games, you had to beat him three times (one for each character) in order to consider the game fully completed. That was a pain in the ass.
