Our dining hall let us take ice cream out but most people hid food in paper towels and took it out. Really the only staff we had was the cooks and the person who swiped our cards. Odds are they did not care if we took food but for sanitation and health reasons they say dont take food

Best college food thing I ever got was a ramen cooker, its a square dish that perfectly fits the noodles and then has a line for how much water you need so no measuring! then pop it in the microwave add the flavor packet and boom perfect stove top ramen made in the microwave. Kinda similar to the brownie thing but for ramen

A hot pot was my go-to. I heated up water for tea and coffee, made mac and cheese, cooked other pastas and ramen, heat hotdogs, and make anything that you would normally make in a pot. Plus it was not banned!

I remember doing this! Full on “kitchen”=coffee pot, crock pot, iron, & microwave. You can cook almost anything in a crockpot- even cakes. Use a clean soup can, spray inside can with nonstick cooking spray, fill 1/3 of can with cake batter, place in crockpot on high for about hour to 2 hours (test for doneness with a butter knife) and enjoy. Start it, go to class, come back to desert or dinner. The iron and foil method worked well for fajitas too.

The hot logic is the best thing ever! I use it for work all the time! It’s a great way to warm up leftovers! And you can get a car charger for it too so if you commute you can plug it up in the car. Best Christmas gift ever!

bellatrix2253 idk. The college I worked at and the 2 colleges I went to only allowed microwaves if they were attached to a fridge ( called a micro fridge which you HAD to rent from the school) or in the official dorm kitchens. So regular microwaves were not allowed in dorm rooms

Lol I only eat microwaved bacon. But you have to have the microwave pan thing. It makes it perfectly crispy. The fat cooks out and it’s perfect. Doesn’t work well without the pan thing lol Also the grill thing you have. They have mini waffles makers and I love it! You can even make it the night before, freeze it, and have your own eggs waffles you can put in the toaster

If you have a coffee pot in your dorm, you can make ramen in it! I did this in college since I didn't have a microwave. Keurig: hot water to a cup and transfer to a bowl and allow noodles to steep in the hot water. Reg pot: Do it just like a regular 2-3 cups of water heated up, just without the coffee in your filter, put the noodles in the pot and let the base plate of the coffee pot keep the water warm to allow the noodles cook through.

You can make scrambled eggs in the microwave wave. Just crack your egg into a bowl, scramble it and microwave it at 30-45 second intervals until done. It’s my favorite hack. I’ve done it at home too.

You can cook a grilled cheese with an iron. Just build it like normal, wrap in foil and press each side with the iron for a couple of minutes. This can also be used for fast panini's when you don't have one of those presses too!

Okay these were all fun crazy gadgets but I legitimately think the best college dorm gadget is the instant pot! That one item works as a hot plate to sautee, a slow cooker, a rice cooker and a standard pressure cooker! It's so versatile

When I was in college, I had a small coffee pot and all I used it for was boiling water. I’d either put eggs in the carafe and let them cook while I was getting ready in the morning or I’d boil the water and make minute rice.

The only problem is that in recent years the fire safety in most college dorm rooms prevents students from bringing a lot of things. My college the only appliances we can have a microwaves, fridges, blenders, and coffee makers. No toasters, no hot plates, no grittles, no aromatic tea kettles (though this one is the most often broken and most often forgiven). They had a dorm burn down in ‘07 so now we have fire checks three times a semester. It’s not bad they ask you questions and look from the door. They do go through things over break. So you bring that stuff home when you go or if you are flying ask a friend to keep it in their car.

I graduated nursing school this year and I am thankful that I did not live in a dorm to have to hack so much. I will say invest into a crock pot (they have small ones and pinterest has one-two person recepies), and learn how to cook basic foods in general so you do not constantly eat out.

My roommate and I had a crockpot, keurig, induction cooker, and microwave cuz that is what was allowed in the dorms. Crockpots are life. Just plug it in and put stuff in it. Go to class and come back to the dorms to stew. I also stole a lot of food from the dining hall too
