The reason the attachment point of the whisk is "dirty" is because its been run through the dishwasher, the alkali laden dish cycle actually strips much of the zinc layers off. Always hand wash the whisk.

The reason your beater base is turning black is because you are probably putting it in your dishwasher. The base is aluminum, and the dishwasher cleanser chemicals are eating the aluminum. Kitchenaid has Stainless Steel Beaters that are safe to put in the dishwasher.

It's from washing the attachments in the dishwasher. The manual says to hand wash only. The anodized aluminum it's made from reacts with the detergents for dishwashers and oxidizes it.

Best gizmo is the scraper blade. The slicer is basically useless. The juicer would be good if there were a couple thousand fruits to juice, otherwise overengineered.

Bought my wife the slicer/grater and it's really nice. Especially if it's something that you can use often. The key is finding the right speed. The problem with this video is he does everything full blast.
