The theoretical mechanical advantage of a trucker’s hitch is 2:1, not 3:1. In actual use friction robs some of the useful mechanical advantage, reducing it below 2:1. It is a very useful knot, but it is not a 3:1 setup. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
