Most of us are happy if we get one or two really nice pictures out of dozens or even hundreds that were taken. It's tempting to delete or archive the rejects and only admire the good ones; but I think it helps to look at the not so good ones to see what went wrong. I often ask myself: "Why did I waste my time taking that instead of thinking more about what I wanted?"

These are the tips photographers should follow. I'm not saying aperture, iso, long or short exposure are not important but photography is first of all emotions, sentiments, connection with your subject and your camera, with yourself and your vision. Reading photography books is one of the best tip I've ever followed. For my experience, Genesis by Sebastiao Salgado was the book that brought me to black and white and Jack Curran (another amazing photographer recently passed away) brought me to bnw landscape photography. But even Michael Kenna, Robert Frank, Ansel Adams, Edward and Brett Weston, Robert Capa's photos gave me a lot in terms of photography knowledge. So, read books, take time to see, admire and study the photos of the photographers who inspire you. And, obviously, watch and subscribe to this channel and learn from Attilio, as I did and I keep doing.

At the end of the month, my childhood playground is scheduled to reopen. Not closed because of the pandemic but, because of arson last September. Elk Rock Island on the Willamette River in Milwaukie Oregon. It became my nature connection. Getting great blue heron pics, the different wild flowers, geese with their reflections on the water. Going on hikes all the way around. I hope to apply all 5 of your tips.

Excellent tips and well thought out. My tip which dovetails nicely into one of yours (spending time in nature) is to be a student of your surroundings. Always be curious about what species plant, what kind of rock, characteristics of the landscape, why is the weather what it is and how to understand conditions, etc. I find that being inquisitive about these things really helps capture the subject in a way that best tells its own unique story. It also tends to shape inspiration.

Again another great video. Understanding your style.. Well I like to think I see a complicated scene and make it simple to tell a story... That's what I try to do in all my photography landscape, wildlife and sport.. TIPS. Even though you have the shot you want. Still stay at the same spot and see if you can be creative and create a different atmosphere photo changing the ISO, F-Stop, Exposure, Focus point, Depth of field the composition and different lenses.. Try photo stacking or panorama's.. I have done this and when reviewing the photos I have found a better photo than I had planned. Experimenting with settings and composition is a great way to learn your gear. For a debate... I have done this so many times with this question... Is more important to keep to the rules of 3rds... Or for the photo to tell a story? Attilio... I truly do admire and like your work... Respect.. Photography for me is sharing my passion and vision through the lens in an artistic manner..

Wise words! For me, photography and especially landscape photography is more like an existential force and a necessity than a hobby, a way to have peace of mind. And your last tip, there is nothing better than being able to transfer the feeling you had when you took that special picture and someone else experiences a bit of the same feeling by seeing the finished work. Of course, this does not always happen 😉 Thanks for sharing, Attilio!

Fantastic summary, Attilio! Especially "being in nature" There my soul finds rest. I have to admit, that very rarely a taken picture can describe the emotion of my presence there. It is funny that your first tip is knowing your equipment. I am guilty of not knowing mine as well as I should. On my last shoot, I actually found something on my camera that I didn’t realize it had or would do. I immediately started using that feature and noticed a difference in my images from that shoot.

Thank you Attilio, what works in your photography is your dedication, your commitment to nature. They are impressive, technically, but they are unique in many other ways which have little to do with technical perfection, they speak about wonder at the beauty of nature, they testify to the healing power of the world that surrounds us. They work because they achieve that perfect fusion between heart, eyes, brain and soul that artists can do. So, yes, these are not the usual tips, but they are much much more. Fantastic video, thanks for your generosity. Ciao my friend.

Great advice Attilio, I think these are things we must always be reminding ourselves (myself). No matter how good we get. Groups are also a big help especially when we get down and worn out. I have to work, so I go through periods of not picking up my camera for a few weeks, and then taking every weekend to go out and get shots. I am sure we all go through that. This Covide time has been great... and terrible, great to study, read, watch videos.... and then other times when I need to get out in the real world, covide has made this a challenge physically and worse, psychologically. This week I work, Next weekend and early mornings, I will be out taking photos....can not wait.!

As ever, inspirational. A few questions come to mind. Which tripod do you use? Your American images have a great quality of light - I'm based in Kent, UK. Is this something we can't get in the northern hemisphere? In terms of planning a shoot I invested in PhotoPills, and iPhone app. It's so complicated - do you have any thoughts on that or another approach to planning? Thanks and keep up the great work.

My tip is about planning. I personally use photo pills as I find it very helpful. Great video Attilio! Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts 🤗

Condividi ancora i tuoi lavori su quella piattaforma o ti sei spostato altrove?

Thanks for sharing your insight! Inspiring thoughts. Also, I would love to know which filter kit you are currently using: Haida? Kase? Lee? Thanks, Attilio.

Hi Attilio: I really liked your approach to this subject and I absolutely agree with everything that you suggest. I have really appreciated the opportunity to contribute to your Instagram for the PhotoClub. I have now joined your FB feed as well. Any thoughts on producing ball caps with your logo or histogram related icon on it? Cheers, Keith

Hi Atilio: Thanks for the response. I didn't see this cap before. I thought it was a winter toque. I would prefer a runners ball cap something that can be crushed down for packing more easily vs. a truckers' cap. That being said, maybe it is time for me to buy another T-Shirt! Regards, Keith

I wanted to buy an ND1000 filter, (it would be my first ND filter) do you think it's too dark or do you think it's ok to start?
