I guess it has already been pointed out that Hershey's is just one brand of chocolate in the US. It's not accurate to say British chocolate is better than American based on one example.
@Furball-8994 Жыл бұрын
That's true. In my area we have Hershey, Nestle, Mars and a few others, Even Hershey makes several different types of chocolate's. With that said, It's not accurate to say any chocolate is better than any other, Only which you prefer. There are hundreds of chocolate Co.'s in the world. They all survive because a large enough populous thinks that there chocolate is the best.

Hi guys! I grew up eating Hershey's as a little kid ( when I could get it), but as I got older I encountered Cadbury, Lindt, Nestle's, Godiva and various French, Italian, Belgian, German, Swiss, Mexican, and Irish chocolates. I liked all of them. Sure, there were differences, but they all tasted like chocolate. Some I like better than others but sometimes it's just the mood I'm in. Kind of like different wines. Also, I found out that the higher priced ones weren't always the best.

Hershey's and Cadbury are not "bad" but different. They are made differently with different processes. But because of Mr. Hershey the common man has the luxury of chocolate. Before him it was an expensive elitist treat not for the masses.

Cadbury products are better in Britain than in America. However, Hershey is the basic affordable "good enough" chocolate that you buy for children who are too young to have refined tastes, or to hand out at Halloween, or whatever. (Nestle, M&M/Mars, the Cadbury products sold in North America, and Reece's are also in this category.) If you want *good* chocolate in America, you buy Ghirardelli, or at least Dove.

Cadbury is different tier to Hershey but they are not supposed to be compared to begin with. As much as Cadbury is better tasting than a standard Hershey's bar, the said Hershey's bar is far more important. MadMen covered it quite well.

4:14 I think here is the disconnect on chocolate. If we are comparing strictly a plain ol' bar of milk chocolate, Im sure there are plenty of chocolate bars better than Hershey. I say this as someon who likes Hershey. The problem comes in when a European sticks their noses in the air in disguist at Hershey, it isnt just chocolate they are snubbing. Hershey is responsible for the most lifechanging chocolate candy in the history of the known universe. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. No one snubs their nose at Reeses. I'm pretty sure thats a war crime. lol. Not to mention that the supposedly '"superior" British Cadbury is OWNED by Hershey......but I digress. @jordanledoux1979 ай бұрын
I do find it pretty funny when Europeans in general, not just Brits, seem to think that the US is a similar size to their country. Sometimes that catches people out in stuff like planning travel, but a lot of Europeans are at least aware you can't do New York, Las Vegas, Hollywood, and the Grand Canyon in one week with a rental car. But it creeps into other things. The US is WAY to big to only have one chocolate manufacturer. There's like 350 million people living here. The US is too big for FUCKING WALMART! There's huge sections of the west and mid west that are dominated by other larger retailers, and almost every state and city has a few regional retailers and grocers. We're even kind of too big for one airline. Like, Europeans are aware that we have Delta, and American Airlines, and United, and so on, but a lot of them don't realize that you can't get everywhere on any one of those airlines easily. Most of the larger cities you can get to from the larger national carriers, but the west coast has FAR fewer American Airlines flights, and it's actually difficult to get to places outside Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego on American. That's a mostly east of the rockies carrier. They do have flights out here, but people on the west coast are much more likely to fly Southwest or Alaskan. That's just how big the country is, and how many people are here, and how large the economy is. The US is too big for there to only be one "good option" for most things.
@RealDiehl99 Жыл бұрын
Good point in response to Lawrence's first "lie". Something familiar often makes us think that it is better. I'm sure people all over the world feel the same way. Our brains like familiar things and most likely trigger emotions and feelings that we in turn interpret as "better", for lack of a more accurate description. I'm sure the culture shock of visiting a new country inadvertently makes us long for the more familiar-or better- way things were done in the old country.

There are a lot of laws we got from the British (as well as laws passed in British colonies) that Britain very quickly abandoned itself when it left its former colonies and granted them independence, which are pretty ridiculous. The 21 year old age of majority for example (which only has a remnant of it left in a 21 year old age to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages in the US, imposed on the States by the Feds coercively, which threatened to reduce a State‘s highway funding by 15% if a State with a lower drinking age didn’t raise it within a few years, in a 1984 piece of legislation- a failed highway safety measure). It’s not a big deal, so all States complied. But, Britain dropped that age (21) years ago to 18 to be in conformity with the rest of Europe. That peculiar age of 21 derived from a Middle Ages belief arising in Britain that held a man was a fully grown man, i.e, entitled to be treated as having reached the age of majority, and was fully adult, when he was strong enough to put on his armor to fight battle as a knight without any assistance. And 21 was thought of as that magical age. Weird as it is, it caught hold and stuck around awhile and still exists in many former colonies.

Why's there a Hershey-Cadbury debate? Cadbury (as well as various Dutch and Swiss brands) is readily available in the US for those who prefer it. I go back and forth--after a period of eating one, I usually go back to the other for a while. Accents: Face it. "Game of Thrones" at al without British accents might not be worth watching. Swimming pools in American life: I think it's a phase. I went through it. Most Americans want a pool until they have one and find out how much work it can be (or cost if you have someone else do it) to keep the thing pristine and the water crystalline (especially if you want to leave periodically on vacation). I had one when I lived in Florida. I made certain when I moved to Arizona that I bought a house without one.

The origin of soccer was a few linguistically creative University of Oxford students in the 1880s who first distinguished between the sports of “rugger” (rugby football) and “assoccer” (association football). The latter term was further shortened to “soccer” (sometimes spelled “socker”) and the name quickly spread beyond the campus.

Hersheys has that special taste because soldiers wanted it. Hershey was like Cadbury. I mean there is no difference. Except one ingredient added. The US shipped bars to the soldiers in war time. When the war was over, they went straight for Hersheys their favorite candy bar. But what they found was the taste of Cadbury. Yuck, they said. So, Hershey put the ingredient in for good to please them. I forgot the ingredient, but it might have been a preservative to last long in war. Video on YT about this.

And like most stereotypes they are based only on a small portion of truth, and probably a vast majority of the matters mentioned are untrue. It’s nice to hear these anti-American sentiments called lies. Because most of the complaining done on these sites are lies, probably posted by people who have never even been to the US. I agree that Cadbury is better than Hershey, if only because Hershey's milk chocolate tends to be too sweet. Hershey's Special Dark is rather nice, though. What's interesting is when you buy Cadbury in the US you're most likely buying it from Hershey because they own the rights to the Cadbury brand here in America. It still tastes like Cadbury because they follow the same recipe. (The caveat here is that if you go to a shop that imports British goods you would be getting Cadbury's Cadbury instead of Hershey's.)
