I've seen a LOT of people attempt to explain lighting patterns... Seriously... A LOT! On KZbin, at photography trade shows, even a professor teaching photography at a university a lifetime ago. Not one of them managed to explain the subject as clearly and without the use of (very poor) metaphors! Well done, this was a perfect teaching video, and I've been able to send this as a resource for people asking me questions about lighting patterns.

Fantastic demo/tutorial. Also, amazing audio and a very nice "stage" in which to present. The beauty of this video, besides great educational content, is the fact that the presenter is SO comfortable with his presentation... no one had to jump-cut the crap out of the piece. Great flow and a very nice, no BS presentation. It held my attention from beginning to end.

As a beginner in the using light set up I really found this useful thank you. I will be watching plenty of other videos. I like the simplicity of the way you explained it too. Many KZbinrs talk too fast and move onto the next thing you took your time explaining each one when you are doing a video, many brains cannot comprehend what's being said if you just move onto quickly he gives us time to watch and observe and you showed an image after each time. Thank you so much for the way you explained it given that many people also will be newbies to the light sourcing stuff. I think this is really good.

Absolutely brilliant - exactly what I was looking for thank you as a refresher - I will say this: This is the best channel without exception for flash. I wasn't sure that I would warm to Pye, I feared he would be too cool and smug, (as many other's working in this medium very often are, I name no names) but he turns out to be an excellent teacher, very down to earth, explains everything very very well, very clearly. Not a moment of patronising showboating, examples for everything. The models / talent (what ever is the correct name) are obviously top professionals, and clearly he has a good (working) relationship with them (unlike many others working in this medium, again I name no names). This is the only channel anyone needs to learn flash photography, look no further. You have arrived.

Very nice and direct (no pun intended) explanation of some fundamental lighting concepts. Of course, this was all with a single light, which is great, but now you could start to fill this out with companion videos using two or three lights. This could be the start of a nice collection or series of video on lighting that I think a lot of people would love to have access to. Other may have already commented in this below, so please forgive the repetition. Great job!

I don't generally just like all of Pye's videos in terms of their style and language, so I'm not a natural fan. But ... this one is .... just very good! Logical storyline. Visuals and demonstrations to support it. Well-made slides to highlight key points. Nice anecdotal touches. Gear well within the reach of amateurs. A (beautiful) model with a great look to support demonstrations. Well filmed. Pleasant audio, pace, language. Great job, team (+Pye!).
