$5 Locomotive Gets a (Sorta) New Motor and New Light.

This was the F7A I picked up for $5 at the April 2024 York Train Show. The motor wanted to work but nothing else with the locomotive wanted to work with the motor. The motor due to human error was replaced along with the light, but I'm not complaining given how much I paid for the locomotive itself.

I have a few engines that still have the old Pittman motors in them. The best way to improve an open frame motor (Pittman) is to replace the magnets with neodymium (rare earth) ones. I did that to all my Pittman motors and now they will "creep" around the track. It made a HUGE difference in current draw and performance. Cheers from eastern TN

Hi Rusty. If you've noticed, even with the replacement Pittman I put a couple of rare earth magnets. I did the same thing with the Pittman on board the Penn Line 2-8-0. Cheers from Central Suffolk County, NY 😉
