SMGs are COMPLETELY absent from the vanilla game unless you use the UGLY AF base pipe guns or turning the Handmade Rifles into a proper SMG from the Nuka World DLC. I LOVE using the 10mm SMG, P90, Select Rapid Machinegun and the TMP from the Rifles Rebirth mod in my usual stealth centered playstyle indoors. When I'm out and about, I stick with the P90 (again), the Select Assault Rifle, any rifles from the 5.56 mod pack or if I'm in the mood to play without using mods, the Combat Rifle (not before I install a retexture mod first though) or the Handmade Rifle.

I know a lot of people don't consider Fallout Tactics cannon but Lancer Captain Kells has a line of dialog where he mentions the Midwest chapter of the Brotherhood. The one thing I really liked from Fallout 76 was the 10mm SMG. It was slightly larger than the FO3/NV version, and it was a two handed weapon instead of one handed(which never made any sense to me). I love the Thompson Replacer. The Thompson has always been a favorite SMG of mine so when it came to Fallout NV in the form of the .45 Auto SMG as part of the Honest Hearts dlc, it became an absolute staple in my inventory. I was happy that .45 auto ammo could be bought at the Gun Runners shop, and that I could get more .45 Auto SMGs and .45 Auto pistols, but I was bummed that it wasn't added to New Vegas's base leveled and loot lists.

The Grease Gun I'd use if I had a Tank or any Vehicle I was in as well as Keep it to the .45 ACP or .30 Carbine rounds and the Thompson I'd have as the More Popular M1928A1 Model, with the Stick Magazine, the Straight Foregrip and the Shoulder Stock with the Iron Sights as a Must. If I needed a Thompson while on a Long Journey, I'd probably try and Make it like the M1921's from the Yangtze Patrol (YatPat) during the Boxer Rebellion of the 1920's and 1930's with either the Stick or 50 Round Drum Magazine, the Straight or Commercial Foregrip (The Latter being commonly known as on Thompson's used by Gangsters like Al Capone), and the Folding and Removable Shoulder Stock which folded almost like a Double Barreled Shotgun when you needed to reload it all for the Sake of Making the Thompson easier to use while on the Move and the Barrel using what's called the "Cuts Compensator" which has several Slits along the Muzzle Brake at the End of the Barrel. This model was actually the Preferred Model as it Performed Well but it was really Expensive to Manufacture so that's why the Military went with the M1928A1 Model that we all commonly Associate with the Thompson. Let me know what you think about this and I'll catch you in your next video man!

The no foregrip and exclusively drum mags bothers me to no end. In the post apocalypse, especially in Bethesda's version, weapon manufacturing would be made as efficient as possible. Kinda like how manufacturing was during World War II. The basic Thompson in F4 should be even simpler. A wire stock, simplified pistol grips with a 2nd grip being used as a foregrip for less labor, and simple stick mags rather than more complex drum mags.

I think the reason why the ingame Thompson is weird is because they wanted to recreate the gun, but not to its full extend. Something where people say 'It looks like a Thompson' rather than THE Thompson gun. As for the other guns not appearing in FO4, maybe they wanted to add new guns and keep old guns in the old games. Judging from the 'They reused assets its a cashgrab' crowd, that makes sense. But its great these mods add the guns in with custom meshes and animations.
