I was in a pretty negative headspace on Day 3 of this challenge and when I woke up to torrential rain on Day 4 I was seriously questioning my life choices! But as with most things in life, the reality is never as bad as the thought of it and by the time I arrived at Grimwith Reservoir it had just about stopped raining. In fact... I couldn't have been any luckier with the weather!
I was in a much more positive mindset for Day 4. Although my toenail really hurt, and I was still on two lots of antibiotics, and lots of painkillers for my infected root canal, I just felt more cheerful than the day before. I also felt slightly less tired, and so although the thought of another 6 laps of Grimwith Reservoir didn't fill me with joy, then I had a much better day than expected. Mindset is everything!
This video tells the story of Day 4 of my 5 in 5 challenge.

Cracking effort, despite it all Nicola. Back on dentist watch after day three. Love how you clarified you had two flakes, not two trays of flakes, but then still took to demolishing one tray by stealth

I'd have loved to have eaten the whole tray! That would have been the dream 😂 Also... Dentist watch 🤣🤣🤣

Well done Nicola - you're an inspiration and a lesson in keeping the spirits up to all of us tubby-plodder Parkrunners! I'm looking forward to 5 of 5😁👍.

I had to check you were saying this about Day 4 and not Day 3 😜😂 Day 3 I had no spirit at all 🤣 But thank you 🤗 I don't see quitting as an option so I may as well be cheerful about my suffering 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

You're back in the positive world for #4! I wonder if the tooth pain is just the effort of banging out 4 marathons after a root canal and the infection is now behaving?? Antibiotics are usually very effective but most people after a root canal don't run over 100 miles in 4 days!! Awesome mom too...from marathon to the pool for Pops!

Thanks 🤗 Definitely by far the hardest part of this challenge was getting Poppy up early every day, arranging childcare, being cheerful for Poppy when I had zero energy (I'm determined she shouldn't suffer because of a challenge I've chosen to take on) and then taking her to her various commitments. Diving was definitely the hardest as we don't get home until gone 8pm and I really wanted to be getting sorted before then. The tooth pain didn't go until I went back to the dentist and he went back into the tooth, cleaned it out with bleach 🤢 put antiseptic and antibiotics inside the tooth itself and then it settled down. Honestly one of the most painful things I've ever experienced! 😳

Not me rushing to the comments to see whether Stewart and Amy have been in to tell you off for playing a podcast out loud on your run... Seriously though, what a legend you are! Almost makes me want to run a marathon. Certainly makes me want to run a marathon more than it makes me want to play a podcast out loud 🙈

This really made me laugh. What's wrong with playing a podcast out loud? 🤣 I honestly don't get it 🤣 You should try it sometime 😉😜

@@NicolaRuns It's much more a reflection on me than you! I'm suuuper self conscious, but also run in the middle of London, so I'd probably get some odd attention if I was playing a certain aforementioned podcast out loud when they're talking about the inevitable consequences of needing the loo on a run 😆😬. Maybe I'll try it next time I'm in the countryside... the remote countyside 😝

These are such lovely videos I’m really enjoying them. They feel proper comforting (which I’d imagine is not how 12 laps of Grimwith feels 😂).

You are amazing, Nicola! I wonder how many people in the whole world have run five marathons in five days.
@NicolaRuns
@NicolaRuns Ай бұрын
Awww thank you 🤗 Ooh that's an interesting question..I imagine not too many but definitely more than we think. There's a fair few people that do like a marathon a day for a month, or 100 days, or a year, or the people that have the records for most consecutive marathons etc. People have done some seriously impressive things! I'd love to really push my limits but until Poppy is older then I don't think it would be fair... 🤔

Grimwith me now? Fab effort once again. Looks like a really good course. Must admit- I would NOT be following the no beer rule after the antibiotics finish. One more to go (well, for the viewers…. I assume you’ve finished by now and not still in the middle of your 5th run). Also, it should be called the 42.2 parkruns challenge you’ve done.
@NicolaRuns
@NicolaRuns Ай бұрын
🤣 That's very good! I followed the no alcohol rule but as soon as I was allowed to drink then I had a celebratory fruit cider! 😃🍻 Lol to the parkruns... It can't be called that because I kept forgetting to say 'Just a parkrun to go!' Which is always one of my favourite parts of a marathon 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

I really admire that you have so much self motivation to get out running when you don't feel like it. I find it hard to motivate myself to run solo, which is why I like doing parkruns, but I'm hoping to get out on some longer runs this year (longer for me is a 10K, not a marathon, and certainly not 5 in 5 days!!)
@NicolaRuns
@NicolaRuns Ай бұрын
Thanks, my run streak is what gives me my motivation. It'll be 7 in a few weeks! And back in the day then I'd run with music to motivate me. Oh and running to explore somewhere new is always awesome too 😃 For longer runs you could always do a mile warm up before parkrun and a mile cooldown afterwards or something? Or try a running club if you enjoy running with others? Either way, good luck 🤗
