As someone who is figuring out guitar all by his lonesome (and is hella focused on 'the cool/brutal metal sounds')... it's very comforting to see you use the exact same pick / pick thickness (I have the whole tortex rainbow - yellow seemed to work best for me, but I was worried I might not be able to make certain noises with them)
@BrendonKPadjasek
@BrendonKPadjasek 3 ай бұрын
Oh yeah the yellows are perfect thickness for playing but also thin enough to get your pick in between every wind of the strings to make scrapes sound best. I also like the orange (I think they’re around .66 thickness)
@iggysixx
@iggysixx 3 ай бұрын
@@BrendonKPadjasek I like the orange too :) (works for acoustic guitar too... far as I can play it at least) Guitarist of my (old) band always used 1.0mm (like the blue Tortex), and he played like a mofo - that's why I keep having doubts. (Think he used a thicker one for heavier sounding chugs) Anyways - the triangular ones.. I played a couple hundred live shows. Bass player and guitar player both used these. The benefit - according to them - is that if you happen to drop your pick, or have to grab a new one; the orientation doesn't matter. (And on a dark stage - that MATTERS). Listening to their advice also brought me to using D'addario EXL strings. (According to the guitarist - they (almost) never break, and stay in tune the longest) A few years after I started to teach myself, I can confirm all these things :)

Hey I have a sound to share. It’s similar to the cat scratch, it involves pressing the strings against the edge of the pickup, but I don’t pick it, just press and release with my palm and the trick is to adapt the release part in a rhythmic way. This sound doesn’t work on my plastic shell of a passive pickup, but does work very well on a metal covered emg.
