Heads up! After downloading recent upgrade I was having seriously slow playback. I tried the above methods in this video with no improvement. What finally worked for me was checking the GPU Configuration. I run a dual monitor setup and the upgrade defaulted to the wrong monitor and video card for handling video. Note: you can only use one video card with the unpaid version - make sure it's the monitor you're running DaVinci. The GPU Configuration is found in the Memory and GPU page under the DaVinci Resolve menu.

This video is so helpful and yet so cruel: I did all tips at the same time and I can see almost no difference. I'm struggling with my 2015's macbook pro. Obviously it's not a new machine by any means, but jesus! Ahahaha gotta update to a new one asap. Thanks, Alex! Edit: Wow. After trying all the tips together, I decided to select the individual clips and "generate optimized media" and wow. Just wow. I guess it's the first time I've ever seen a full 5 minute clip running without lag a single time. Thanks again, Alex! wow
@AlexCameron-Depiqd2 жыл бұрын
That's awesome that you got things working Vitor! It may be that the spec of your machine just isn't handling the footage you're throwing at it. Out of interest, what are the specs and what footage are you working with?
@vitorshaw2 жыл бұрын
@@AlexCameron-DepiqdThanks for the reply! My laptop is an Apple MacBook Pro 15-Inch "Core i7" 2.8 Mid-2015 Dual Graphics. (I tried linking it here but appearently it's not possible). Anyway, here are the specs: - Quadcore Corei7 - 16GB RAM - 1TB Flash storage Dual Graphics: - An AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory - An integrated Intel Iris 5200 Pro graphics processor with 128 MB of "Crystalwell" embedded DRAM. As for the footage, the only kind of video I make is music videos for a few artists that are already recording music with us, so we're talking about several 3-to-5 minute takes that are recorded on my Fuji X-T4, so the specs for all of them are F-log, 1080p, 24fps. A little disclaimer (not excuses at all): I'm not a full time video maker; I'm actually a musician/photographer (@picsbyshaw) who happens to do this kind of video when the idea is "simple enough", but even that has become kind of a hassle. But then again, even my Lightroom brushes tend to freeze up for a few moments when I'm editing photographs, so I guess it's just the age of my machine, I guess. Files way too big for it to handle smoothly.

Really appreciate your comment Warren. Thanks for watching and so glad the video helped! 👍🏻 for the silky smooth playback. The transitions? Do you mean the 'That's All Folks' circle shapes transitions? If so then they're actually built in Fusion but I didn't have time to build my own so cheated and grabbed it from Motion Array. Look for the Resolve Macros as these are the ones that you can add to Fusion really easily. I'll see if I can find the link to this one...

I've already followed these steps yet, there isn't any difference even though I saw how the resolution changed in playback, it is still choppy. I'm on a laptop, intel core i5-7200U with a dedicated GPU(Nvidia 920M) with 8gb of RAM and a 480gb SSD. About a year ago, editing in this laptop is still fine without proxy but as of today it is kind of frustrating seeing the playback even though I've set everything to the lowest possible resolution. I would highly appreciate your response :)

VERY GOOD. Thank you for being straight to the point. The timeline resolution definitely helps - but I have one quick question? In premiere, when I shoot in 4k, and edit in a 1080 sequence, I'm aware that I have capability to zoom up to 200%....how can I ensure no quality loss on editing in a 1080 sequence with 4k footage, without simply trusting that it's scaling properly? Sorry if it's a novice question - appreciate the help!

Hey Alex, Great tips! Since I've begun using Resolve I noticed I mysteriously have a new folder called "CacheClip." You mentioned a cache folder in your video, and recommended I could delete it after my project is rendered out and off to You tube. I realize that if I ditch the folder I will have to re-render in the future. Which is ok by me. Hope that I am getting this correctly in my head. Thanks again for all your excellent videos on Resolve. They are a big help to a newbie like me. They are always well done and on point. Jan Armor
@AlexCameron-Depiqd3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jan for your kind comments and so glad the videos are helping you. Yes that Cache Folder that appears (in the directory that you select in the project settings) can be deleted but just be aware that this will delete all the cache files for all the projects in your database (or all those within that top level cache folder). It can be a little fiddly to work out which ones belong to which project but remember this isn’t deleting your source media, just the cache which can be easily cached again as you need it. It also shouldn’t stop you opening the project and rendering it out. Does that help?

I reduced the time line playback res and the buffer size and that seemed to work. Does the timeline playback resolution need changing back to full before exporting? Thanks
@AlexCameron-Depiqd Жыл бұрын
Great to hear! To answer your question, whilst Resolve has excellent image scaling I would do exactly what you've suggested and simply change back the timeline to the desired resolution. Resolve is resolution independent so any created graphics will scale as well which saves a bunch of time. Thanks for watching.

@DaneElcar3 жыл бұрын
I've read there could be quality issues when editing 4k footage on a 1080P timeline and then upscaling back to a 4k TL to export. What do you mean by resolution independent? So you haven't had any quality issues by doing this? Just double checking. All of this was very helpful!
