That's going to help loads of people, THIS is the best type of tech video, simple and straight to the point. Wish I had these around when I started instead of winging it til I self taught myself the trickier bits. Worth mentioning the mrp ramp control cartridge too it's an amazing upgrade for volume spacer settings on the fly. I really like the RS cassette tool cap makes it super easy, plus who doesn't have cassette lock ring tool it's like the 1st tool you should buy.

Thanks, Tommy! This is quite an intermediate video, but it's also pretty essential for a plush feeling suspension setup! 👍

Great video. Just bought a new Fox Factory 36 fork and wasn't sure how to install the spacers properly. Nice easy job. Shame the proper socket tool is so outrageously expensive!
@theonemanopinion2764
@theonemanopinion2764 2 жыл бұрын
You can also use an adjustable spanner, as long as it’s good quality and doesn’t have play in the jaws. It’s what I use! If you buy all the tools to service fox forks it’s really expensive! but only thing you really need is a wiper seal insertion tool. But they’re a tenner on Amazon.

You can buy a proper non chamfered top cap socket tool for less than $15 online too. No need to risk damaging your fancy fork. The official fox socket is outrageously expensive

Cool vid, I din't know about cycling the fork at low pressure to equalise +ve and -ve air chamber pressures. If you want to make your own top cap socket though, I wouldn't use a 12-sided socket for this. The top caps are alloy (or even plastic sometimes) with really shallow hexes; soft material + lack of surface area = easy to round them off so you need to adapt a 6-sided one like the Fox one shown. 12-sided sockets are more suited to cars and stuff where fasteners are difficult to reach

I thought you're not supposed to cycle the suspension whilst the pump is attached? or is that a pump, forks specific thing...
@gryfunyt
@gryfunyt 2 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, it's still safe thing to do because for most forks it still wont exceed the maximum pressure treshold for the pump. It will be different story for rear shock though, because the pressure will be way much higher.

Will be fine on the rear,,your only cycling it to the negative air port(about one third of travel) not bottoming it out.

@@mactully322 ...we put oil into the damper leg of the forks so technically that kinda is a volume spacer but we dont put ait into that leg....the oil comes in different thickness (actually weights) and is sold as w7...w10...w15....w20 ect its the thickness of the oil and how the damper work that work together to control the overall effect of the damper

Is that cycle to equalize necessary? With every fork model? Why does the fork then work better?
@CarkeekW
@CarkeekW 2 жыл бұрын
Yes because you are only filling one chamber side , it only fills the other side after you cycle the fork a few times. If you fill just one side to say 80psi after you ride the bike in anger you will find the fork only has maybe 60psi post equalization. I cycle 5x at least 5x when filling a shock , basically until the pressure does not change statically after cycling, that is what you are looking for.

DVO forks is different you pretty much need to do a lower service to add volume spacers.....Trust forks have to be sent off to tuners to add spacers.....not all forks are the same as fox or rockshox

@frankshotsauce5790

If you let out too much air at once, it could trap some air in the negative air chamber

The air can escape too quickly and potentially damage the internals of the fork. Same with rear air shocks. Slowly do'es it.
