I agree, Jeff. Trauma often impairs a person's "internal locus of control." The more approaches to trauma work that we know, the more we have to offer those we work with emphasizing that the decisions for with approach to use is theirs- a tacit invention putting the client in control of the process and using Scott Miller's FIT approach, assessing treatment progress session-to-session and allowing the client to choose from an array of approaches if they are not satisfied with their progress in therapy. Other considerations are to engage in old-fashioned resource brokering and linkages to help stabilize any crisis the client may be experiencing.

I always thought of hypnotic phenomena as a convincer for people of how our minds works, but your suggestion of using the phenomena as a hint to what type of intervention to apply is great! Thank you.

I had a kid kick me quite severely a few years ago and it was quite traumatic for me. Just recently it happened again but not as bad however, it brought back triggering memories, I’m currently in therapy cos of it.

Hey for anyone reading this trained in hypnosis, I have a question. I know that officially it isn't, but do you consider EMDR a form of hypnosis, personally speaking? I have a feeling, maybe it's a bias, that mindfulness is self-hypnosis rebranded and EMDR is just one hypnotic intervention rebranded. I don't buy that she was out walking in the park and watched people walking past and discovered EMDR like it was a burning bush, maybe I'm a hopelss cynic :D
