What started off as an exploration of a musician and performer that I greatly admired turned into an unexpected journey of self-reflection and rediscovery. I spent 4 weeks researching Christina Aguilera, analysing her music in relation to her life and her fans, and found many skeletons lying in my closet that I was not expecting to ever touch upon in Graphic Design.
For a field of study that prides resolved and communicable work, to curating the documentation of books and posters in a highly sterile or overtly evocative manner, my final for this project was a video that exposed the side of design that people never really see. There are no Pantone chip books or Eames chairs with lacquered desks or tables: in place of that is cut paper strewn on the floor, scrawlings made with sharpies, even highly choppy animations and a messy collection of videos stitched together.
In my exasperation to find the perfect form to capture the power of Christina Aguilera's voice and musicality, I discovered a lot about my working method and, for the first time, captured this on film.
