A HUGE thanks for all your thoughts so far... it looks like number 3 and number 8 are the most popular so far. Food for thought, I'll definitely consider than when trimming some of my newer work. This is another topic I should challenge myself to do with my lids, as I think there's rather a lot to explore with those too, especially considering they're the 'hats' of my pots and are in your face, as compared to these hidden feet. Appreciate all your comments and ideas as always, these past few weeks have been really enjoyable in that regard, so thanks for making the effort to comment and engage.

The bottom of a mug definitely feels like an underrated opportunity! For mugs that I use regularly, they sit upside down all the time. When drying after cleaning, or just to keep dust out while waiting next to my coffee machine. I would love to see more angular variations in the direction of #9!

I have to admit that the smashing makes me feel better about my own tempers when failing. It's part of art and artists tend to keep going. I have to say that number 3 does jump out to me, as well as 8 and 10. I appreciate your videos and find that I always pick something up to add to my clay adventure. Thanks for sharing!

I like the cathartic smashing of the failures. Your voice is so calm, and your work so careful, that the contrast of smashing something in a rage is fun.
@williamwakefield10173 ай бұрын
The calm, even voice over combined with the delicate and precise skill of trimming gives me this false impression that when trimming Florian is the picture of serenity. Which obviously he's human like anyone else, but it makes it all the funnier to see him smash a pot in annoyance. Number 3 and 8 are quite interesting to me, i like them. Number 7 looks a bit goofy as a mug, more of a decorative piece than a functional one.
@RoxieLeGamerAssassin3 ай бұрын
Number 8 is mesmerising, the light playing on the planes, the off balance feeling of the lines, i love it. I feel like i’d just pick it up and look at it for fun. I also love no. 10. Its the complete opposite of no 8; so extremely balanced that it feels crystalline rather than made. Beautiful

1:35 The most important thing after kneading the clay. Kneading the dog. 3, 8 and 9 definitely stand out to me. They look like natural evolutions of your work's angularity progressing to the bottom of the pots now!

Haha! I had imagined that you’re the calmest most patient person but I’m convinced pottery can annoy anyone at points… I tried pottery because of your videos and it was fun and equally extremely frustrating, I made a near perfect cup on my second go and then found it absolutely impossible to recreate third time around. How can attempt two be so easy and the third time doing exactly the same things so frustrating 😂 anyway I think I’ll leave this to the experts and enjoy your videos 🙏🏻👍🏻

1,4,5, and 9 are the ones I liked most. Probably 1 and 4 the most. You make this all look so easy, and seeing the moments of frustration merely brings us back to the reality that failure is the first step to excellence. Thank you for sharing your work.

I really love #1 and #8. #1 for the condensed steps, which I like as well. I could see a version where the "innermost" ring is the thinnest, the middle is middle and the outer is thickest if that makes sense ... not even, necessarily but a noticeable stepped difference. Then #8 ... by far my favourite of the lot. The mug shape is exactly what I love about your style. The foot shape, while you said it could be changed, is probably what I love most about it. It looks comfortable, solid and yet extremely elegant.
@sabrinasadler46733 ай бұрын
I adore the base of #1. #2, 4, 6 and 10 are my overall favorites! They are unique but still very comfortable-looking. The steps on #10, and the maker’s mark perpendicular to the handle, is so pleasing. Thank you for sharing your experiment, Florian!

3, 8 and 9 are definitely my favourites. The sloped steps of each complement the overall silhouette in my view, retaining a minimalism without sacrificing intrigue. It doesn't draw attention away from the mug proper, but instead simply adds a little treat to holding the thing.

Hi Florian, I often hold my mugs by the base, so some form and texturing or shaping done with touch as the focus could be cool. Number 5 was my favourite. I like the delicate step bases, also the ones with as base within the Base are cool, 3, 7 and 9, I think are my favourites, as the numbers came up, I made a list and after watching it several times, my list went from 1 to 10, I really did write all 10 numbers, to the final 3, 7, 9. Your little wobble and ending the mugs journey with a thud and splat, kindly shows us your human, not just, and I use that word wisely, a master Potter with a temper lol, it shows us how passionate you are with all your makes, it's suitable to end something swiftly, precisely and allows artistic expression to vent when what's in your head and what is in front of you don't quite meet in the middle. As with all your videos, the overall impression I get is one of great respect for the clay, how under your guidance can form into marvellous creations and every step is thought about, considered and worked through, each step being equal to the next. You work is a joy to watch, I'm in awe of your process's and seeing the final step, all your hard work comes together. Thankyou for sharing each and ever process.😊

#3 is my favorite. That's how I trim my mugs except a little less exaggerated. So many people don't trim a foot on their mugs and I simply can't do that. I do like all the other examples you showed but I personally wouldn't do them. All I see is excess clay there that I can remove to make the mug lighter. I always try to throw thin and I rarely trim the body of the mug so the base is one place I can take off some excess clay. Keep up the top tier content!!

These new styles of feet absolutely add another dimension of uniqueness to these pieces. Normally I find your mugs, while aesthetically pleasing and well crafted, to be the least interesting of your work. The ones in this video, though, are some of my favorite pieces I've seen you make, and I've watched most of your channel at this point. Additionally, I usually prefer your angled forms to the stepped ones, but these mugs are the exceptions. While I love the angular forms as always, I found the ways you reflected the steps in the bases to be some of your very best design elements.

I love all the stepped bases; all these designs are cool but I guess there's something about the stepped ones that just speaks to me more directly. Also, I'd love the idea of a large batch of mugs (etc) that were all the same design from the top, but the bases were carved differently based on your whims at the moment. All handmade things are unique but the idea of a little slightly-hidden design element that sets one of these apart from its nearly-identical siblings is very appealing to me, at least
