@davidchadderton59044 жыл бұрын
That’s really great Top Gear expert advice James. It’s always wise to toe in soft brake blocks so that the leading edge of the blocks wear down to a smooth ramp shape. Then when the rest of the pad compresses onto the rim, it’s shorter and has less material to wear out. Also, the front ramp sweeps away rainwater and mud, keeping the rest of the block bone dry and clean. The correct toe-in spacing is not, in fact, a gold credit card thickness, but it is measured with the end of the small finger. The brake block clamping nut is never tightened so that the block can float into contact with the rim. It is always vital to ensure that the open end of the brake block shoe always faces in the direction of travel of the bicycle to ensure adequate brake block cooling. Next week, an advice video of how to correctly toe-in disc brake pads and keep them dry will complete the tutorial. I hope this advice provides you with many happy hours of cycling.

@pdtech45244 жыл бұрын
Brilliant tip James! I agree brake block toe in is essential and improves the feel and efficiency of the brakes. In practise however, setting them up like that has always been a trial and error job with lots of faffing about. I've simply found when setting the brake in the desired position, tightening it up moves everything about, so I have to set it first slightly wrong, with this movement in mind, so when tightening, it goes into the right position. Sometimes it works first time other times it takes ages to get right! But your credit card trick looks like it simplifies this process tremendously! I'll use that technique next time.👍😎

It is currently pointed up, which while fully functional as a brake, does not allow the lever to do its purpose. Nah he was referring to this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_UK_GCSE_and_A-Level_grading_controversy

Connor H Thanks for the correction. I thought it was about Clarkson because I’ve read an article about him saying something about A level or A grade or something like that. I didn’t really know what it’s all about to be honest. At the end, don’t blame me that much. I’m not British nor even remotely close.

Has James developed Parkinsons? Genuinely not a joke, he kept shaking his head often.
@gijbuis4 жыл бұрын
I notice a slight 'twitch' at 2:19. 2:23 and 2:31. It could be caused 'essential tremor', 'Parkinson', or simply stress and too much coffee... It seems to be very slight. I doubt that James will have even noticed it before seeing your comment.

Might be one of them teen "moving my too-long-because-who-cares hair away like nothing bothers me" moves. I can hear all the girl's hearts skipping a beat.

This isn't the first video where these tremors have been showing up, but this is by far the most noticeable one. I have been wondering what might be amiss.

JAMES. Does it need a washer, yes or no?
@stevenfoxing56154 жыл бұрын
ABSOLUTELY BORING INDEED ! and thats why I love it ! There is nothing better than watching and listening to James getting excited about his details that no one else even knew they exist. My favourite today was: "THIS WASHER IS CUPPED" which is of course "VERY VERY INTERSTING" ! thanks James and please please more of this, HEY, while writing this I just got the idea of you starting a series or category of "BORING"

I am amazed James is not using a torque wrench for this.

James should "borrow" Hammond's bike and finish it for him.
@Beatlefan674 жыл бұрын
He should finish Hammond - off. Jermy Fartson an' all. Love it when JM is on his own without those wankpenguins.
