In this 5 Minutes with Affinity Photo episode, I edit a difficult sunset photo from the Oregon Coast.

Another great video. I switched to Affinity close to two years ago and have no regrets doing so at all. But there's always more to learn. Your teaching style I feel sets you apart from others on you tube. Not only do I learn something more about A.P. with each video, but you also tell the viewers about your thoughts and methods of making the actual photograph. Taking us through from start to finish. Thank you for taking us along for the ride!

Dana, thank you so very much for the kind words. I've only been using Affinity Photo for about 8 months and like you I have no regrets, and yes there is so much more still to learn. Have a great day!

Thanks. I did learn about feathering something into the sun. Worked well, it seems. Have you thought about extending the time, perhaps to do layers and blends (after doing the usual adjustments)? Perhaps titling it, "5 More minutes with AP." This image might have been improved with that addition.

Yes, 5 minutes isn't very long on complicated photos, just trying to pass along some practical information in bite size bits that I have found works for me. There are a lot of good in-depth videos on KZbin for those that would like to go deeper into editing with Affinity Photo. Thanks for stopping by the channel.

Nice subtle use of colour. Hasn't the HDR that we so often see. I love Affinity as well.

Lots of ways to do HDR. I agree that some just looks unnatural but that form of HDR is losing favor even among the most ardent of proponents. A 3 Exposure HDR might not be enough but one can always do a copy of an image, edit it and then make other copies of other exposures and then add them to the list to create the final HDR and then with an overlay or mask just use the brush to affect the areas needed. This might also allow for a cloning to be done with less time needed for that portion. I agree that I like also to see longer videos and even if they overlap other tutorials, that is not bad as each instructor can add his own concepts and explanations as I find often something gets left out by one tutor but is added by another which is good for the student.

sadly the LR edit would have been so much easier, and also further confirmation how laggy AP can be, but I do own AP and I do use it for a couple of the editing tools, it does have its place but is still terrible as a stand alone editing program

And the programme is not linear, yet. PS is and that's why I stay with it even if I find these explanations of interest.

I’m guessing there’s a fair bit of noise in the shadows?...
@DavidPattonPhotography

I had to pull up the image because I couldn't remember what the shadows looked like and I can see why you might think that. The image is darker than I would like because my monitor was a bit out of wack back when I made the video. I did lighten it up some more and looked into the shadows and no there is not much noise in the shadows viewed at 100%, certainly nothing you would see in a print. My Nikon D810 has amazing dynamic range at the base ISO of 64.

Riding The Edge Photography yeah that's a great camera. I'm using the Nikon Df. Less resolution but beautiful dynamic range, too. Enjoy your videos.

I've always loved the look of the Nikon Df, that's one sexy camera :) Nikon does seem to excel in the dynamic range department for sure. Thanks for stopping by the channel.
