Affinity Photo is great. I’ve been using it the past few years, first V1 and then V2. My editing flow is pretty simple and paying a monthly subscription would be a waste of money (for me), especially as a hobbyist. For DAM I also have a pretty simple set up, I use the built in Mac folder system and Canon DPP to navigate, cull and view throughout. I also use Canon DPP for my raw edits and Affinity Photo for anything after that. Nice video Jeff.

I've liked Affinity Photo as well - seems very capable! And one of the biggest reasons I decided to take advantage of the sale was because I get a lot of folks asking more for Adobe alternatives, so thought it would be worth getting more up to speed!

Hi! I'm a Capture One user for some time. It's a RAW editor, not pixel based. I do occasionally try and I own other packages (Luminar, DxO, On1, Topaz). Yes, I have LR and PS. No, CO is not going to be in the budget category. It has what APPEARS to be a steep learning curve because it is so flexible (a bit of an oxymoron). Once you tune the environment to your taste, it flows. Regardless, the one trait that stands out above all else is how fast it is to edit. Wandering from landscape, if you're the type (wedding, portrait, fashion) where you shoot off 100's to 1000's of photos, it's a hands down winner. That said, the color handling and export options is better than anything else I've tried. In general, I do subscriptions because 1) bugs and 2), if your OS updates, you can be dead in the water. I'm more focused on the OS part for the simple reason of security. I've fought off too many vermin in my career. For what it's worth.

Lots of great points there! I used to use Capture One for all my headshots (I used to do a lot more portraits and headshots than I do now) - its reliable tethering was amazing, fast rating system, made it easy to pick images out with people on the larger laptop screen as we photographed. I only did basic editing in it though - some exposure correction, etc before the headshots went off to retouching. Subscriptions don't bother me much either for the reasons you note. I've reached the point where I don't like dealing with system incompatibilities, being stuck on some OS version because the software I have isn't updated frequently etc. Thanks for the comment!

@@JeffreyTadlockPhotography Since they added (2 years?) speed edit keys and AI brushes, it's a breeze to zip through edits. Luminosity masking, etc, is baked in. Images load off cards essentially instantly. And no switching between modalities (Library, Develop, panels, etc). What you see is what you edit. Great channel! Cheers!

When I was trialing AP2 I found it to be a bit convoluted and I didn’t like the way the tools and panels were organized. I was impatient and didn’t give myself a chance to like the software. Enjoyable watch. 👍🏼👍🏼💜👍🏼👍🏼

It took me a bit to feel more comfortable with it. And I watched a good number of online tutorials to help get a feel for it as well. Thanks for watching!

I've used Adobe since the beginning of Photoshop and I am not going to change. I think it's great! And they just added several new features today. Photoshop and LRC are the two best in my book. NOT changing anytime soon...I have NEVER heard of this Affinity Photo 2 anyway...Ever! They must not advertise much...Thanks for sharing...Peace

Adobe makes a really solid product. I doubt I change away from them for the majority of my photo editing - one, I am *really* reliant on Lightroom for keeping track of my files. And there are always tutorials to figure out how to do just about anything! (Or, as I work on my 2025 calendar, my vendor has PS templates to make the process easier, just because Adobe is so prominent). I mainly know about Affinity Photo 2 as I do use Affinity Publisher for my ebooks, so I had experience with their software and I also have several landscape photographer friends who use it as well. Thanks for watching!

Oh wow! Thanks for pointing that out! I just went back to the original video project to see what happened and for some crazy reason, I had ramped down the audio for that short bit, then back up! Must have been a slip of the mouse. Luckily I didn't say anything particularly noteworthy there, beyond, "You can change the opacity, let me back that off a little bit". So weird how that ended up in the video edit! Appreciate you pointing it out!

I would like to see a jewelry retouching video with affinity photo since the competition has many and they are not equivalent, thank you.

Oh! Not sure I would be a good one for that! I predominantly do landscape photography these days and am unfamiliar with the nuances of jewelry post-processing!

I really like using Adobe camera raw over Lightroom. I work off of folders on my MacBook or hard drive instead of having to import photos into a Lightroom catalog. I’m sure Lightroom is superior but acr does everything I need to do.

ACR is great as well. I started out in LR/PS when I really got into actual photo editing, so I always went that path. Sometimes most of my work in LR, sometimes just the basics in LR and then into PS for more work. It seems I rely heavily on the organization structure of LR more than I realized though, based on my recent use of Affinity Photo 2!

I haven't played with that one yet, looks like they are running a sale as well! And they list digital asset management as a feature as well! That aspect is probably what I struggle with the most in trying to use just Affinity Photo 2 - keeping my files organized, apparently I rely heavily on LR for my file organization!
