Really appreciate you sharing your journey! I am contemplating starting locs and my concern was always about density since my hair is more on the thinner side. Very exited to see your journey!

I think the whole point of locs is for them to loc, so you actually have accelerated progress. There are plenty of people and locticians who advocate frequent washing and wetting of starter locs, and the beach is a known way of locing faster (even salt water at home too). The goal is not to see how long you can keep silky looking twists. It's important to find loc content and locticians that share your loc approach or ideology. Some people are more like loc stylist and worried about neatness, and some are more natural. Also, I don't think you'll have butterfly locs. They will condense and pull the frizz into themselves as they mature. The loctician can also wrap the frizz down the loc during retwist.

Thank you for your comment! It helps me to look at things another way and more positively. She absolutely could wrap it all the way down to cut down on the frizz I think it’s called “locsmithing” or something? Perhaps it isn’t something she’s learned. I’ll try and learn it myself because I eventually want to get to a point of retwisting myself anyhow.

What was the reason your loctician gave for why your locs would end up with the butterfly effect?
@everythinglynn Жыл бұрын
I assumed it Just the way it’s naturally scrunched and bunched up mostly..I was complaining about the fact that it does that and she was like they’ll wind up looking more like butterfly locs that way so don’t think of how they’re forming as a bad thing. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see how they’ll look in years to come tho😊
