I was having frustrating issues with the bridge edge loop part. It was creating entirely too many verticies when bridging and took me about 15 annoying minutes to figure out, but I found the solution: When I created my circle in the center, I needed to make sure it was 100% aligned on the Z axis, exactly the same as the outer cirlce and that fixed the issue. Hope this helps anyone who had the same issue.

8:13 when the shape is relatively simple, yeah you can delete the faces, but when the shape is a little bit complex, you can also hide a section of the model, and then add the loops you want. After that you can unhide by Alt+H. That is the method you want yourself to get familiar with. this is a well made tips video, liked.

Good tutorial to learn a few things, but I still reccomend including fixing N-Gons, whether they are high-impact or low-impact. You should never have N-Gons in a final model. My only other addition is more of a personal preference/Game Dev specific tip. Unless this controller is some big hero piece, floating geometry would be preferred for both the stick and the face button, as opposed to it all being one combined mesh. To save on poly's. Strategic use of Floating Geometry was hard to learn, as I was first taught that everything should be one piece at all times and later learned that, atleast in game-dev, floating geometry is nearly required for optimization.

Hey, i'm new to Blender, so I just want to make sure I understand what you're suggesting. Do you mean that the button could have easily just been a solid mix of cylinders that sat "on top" of the base? hovering so close to the other mesh that you wouldnt be able to tell it was hovering?

Instead of using the Loop cut when adding the button. I would have just selected the top and bottom edges of the side face then search > subdivide. which would create the points in the middle of that face. you'd have to recreate the face on bottom either way but it just feels more natural to me to do it that way.

What version of blender are you using? After you adjust the size of the joystick then go to add the bevel modifier, it shows on your blender two big rectangles, one says vertices and the other says edges with the edges rectangle highlighted. Mine doesn't have that. And when I follow you're steps it doesn't smooth my model like yours does

the geometry completely distorts where the joystick joins the first circle on the base, also the bevel doesnt create nice smooth corners like with yours and Ihave check i have the same settings in the bevel. As a 12 year long Blender user, I do not find Blender (or any subsurface modeler) a great choice for hard surface products. Tools like Fusion 360, Tinker Cad an the awesome SolidWorks are far more suited for that. And you can import them in Blender for texturing.

something that bothers me a lot is that you can't chose which vertex to snap to which vertex when you select a group of vertices. Hopefully they'll improve it in future updates
@zackakai51732 жыл бұрын
Yeah switching back from Maya, the lack of this incredibly basic feature was PAINFUL. Thankfully there's a slightly hacky workaround: go to the origin drop down menu at the top of the screen and make sure active is selected. Then in vertex mode, select everything you want to move, then shift + double click on the vert you want to use as your snapping point. What you're actually doing is unselecting and then re-selecting that vert, which (since active is based on the last thing selected) moves the origin to that vert.
