My mom got into cosplay because of my sister. My sister then got my girls into cosplay which in turn got me into it because we would do groups. Nowadays it’s just my eldest and myself doing things. Watching your child light up because she’s made a cosplay by herself and isn’t 100% sure anyone will recognize then it turns out she had people coming up to her asking to take photos with her. It’s a great boost to their self esteem.

My kiddo has always loved dressing up as his favourite characters (on walks around the neighbourhood, to movies, to the grocery store), and it made him happy so I made him costumes. Now that he is an (almost) adult, he adores going down to the Con here in costume and his Dad and I dress up too because it is fun. I hope that all the young ones with costuming dreams get all the support and have a wonderful time doing this fun hobby.

My dream cosplay as a teenager would probably be any number of Greek goddesses, my friends and I would pool all of our most interesting clothes and accessories and essentially play dress up and create little sketches and things. It wasn’t going to conventions or recreating a specific image of a character but it certainly was playing with costumes. My absolute dream cosplay if money and time are no object would be the Harmonia Gardens dress from Hello Dolly.

I told my mom about cosplay and that I wanted to try it. She told me that she actually had a friend that cosplayed and went to cons. She even got a hold of a friend of hers that would help me. We also talked about a few characters I was interested in. She started looking at cons that she could take me to. I haven’t started yet but I hope to soon

I love watching these kinds of videos even though I've been cosplaying for 10 years now 💖 My parents still don't exactly "get" cosplay, but they've realised how much it means to us (us being 2 sisters and a 3rd who's tried out cosplaying a couple times and is interested in continuing) ✌ And let me tell you, spending your adult money and time making sth that your mum is clearly impressed by is a Great feeling 👌

As someone who got into cosplay as an adult, I didn't have the issue with asking my parents permission etc. However I don't have any friends who wanted to go to cons with me. As I'm quite close to my mum she has come along to many cons with me and while she doesn't cosplay (and probably never will, as much as I try) she was amazed by the cosplays on the floor! She was also very surprised by the age range of cosplayers (particularly the older ones that were her age or older). So like Kirilee says- 10 seconds of courage. You never know- your parents might end up getting right behind you when you show them the cosplay world. Kirilee- love your work

This is a wonderful service for kids you are doing here. Parents need to spend time with the kiddos and Cosplay is an excellent way to do that. The memories created, whether you dress up yourself or just go and visit cons with them, will last them a lifetime. The skills they learn: they only have x amount of money so they have to be creative, construction techniques, sewing, planning, managing their time, homework, chores, so they are done on time or wear something they aren't proud of, are lifechanging and directly applicable to the real world of work and life. You supporting them by believing they can do it? Priceless. It is also a ton of fun and can pull a shy child out into a safe place where they can make friends. Oh and you get to watch that!

I really love to cosplay but i only end up watching cosplay videos like convention vlogs, tutorials or any video that's about cosplay. cause im scared to tell my parents about it. Even tho when i was at kindergarten i cosplayed like 3 characters? it was elsa, miyu ichigo, and a random fairy for our school Halloween party. And my my dad is also an otaku. he also watches anime, reads manga etc. same goes with my dad's siblings. my aunt and Uncle. But i dont know how i can approach them or either tell them that ever since at kindergarten, the time that i started cosplaying, Ive grown more interested in it now im also an otaku and knows about what i was doing at kindergarten. plus my mom kept telling me i should get more social and try to be less introverted but when i know more about cosplay, i saw that it helped some introverted people became social. Do you have any tips about that? cause im scared if they refuse or say something like its a waste of time.

I’ve always wanted to cosplay but never had the guts to tell my parents, but recently we (me,my parents, and sister) went to a convention to support my uncle (he and his kids cosplay) and while walking around and my dad said “we should cosplay next time” I SCREAMED inside,I was so happy! I INSTANTLY agreed. And now me,my dad,and my younger siblings are going to cosplay at a convention.I am literally designing my cosplay right now,I am so happy, excited, and nervous as it is my first time. But me and my dads cosplays are complete opposites so it’s gonna be pretty funny😂 my cosplay is 🥺🌸💕 and my dads is 🖤🥀⛓ and then my sister is gonna be a Pokémon. We’re gonna have an amazing time.

Hello! I just went to my first ever anime con recently and I really thought the cosplayers there were so cool and they were so inspiring! I've started to become more interested in this concept of cosplaying myself but the thing is my wardrobe is basically empty so I can't closet cosplay, I'm worried my parents will disapprove of me getting something that I can't wear normally- I don't often share my interests so very passionately, so i feel sort of weird talking to them about it :,) I'm not really sure what I could do to not make it sound sort of weird, I'm not sure if I should try to start immediately or wait, since this year is my national exam (it is a very big deal) so I will have to study too. Do you think cosplay could become a form of motivation for me to study?

As a parent I am torn. On one hand, I am sad that both my "now adult" children are introverts, and therefore not inclined to cosplay. However ..... it also means that I am not called on to sew cosplay costumes ;) . My daughter is a teacher, so I occasionally get asked to make a costume for book week .... last year it was Mary Poppins .. hardly cosplay level, but technically a costume. I think for both parents and the kids, scope out your comfort level, and work to that.

I would still call that a cosplay :) You know, nothing is there to stop you from cosplaying ;)

A raccoon from a horror game called indigo park. I dont have many materials. But ive figured out how to work with my materials. Fur, felt, paper, fabric, and cardboard. Everyone i know is so confused. I try to explain but they dont get it. I love cosplaying as animalistic video game characters. Its so fun. I use cheap available materials to make masks, tails, paws and other stuff. Im in the works of a paper cosplay right now and its looking so good.
