@The_Prizessin_der_Verurteilung21 күн бұрын
It's an emotional thing. They want something or someone to blame because it's too much to bare knowing their child could do something so dangerous/stupid/reckless/etc., so they negate the accountability to anything else they can even if they know it's not true. They just don't want to believe it; even if it means condemning someone or something else instead.
@ultimatewitcherfan667718 күн бұрын
Exactly! Parents need to stop blaming their child’s bad choices on the internet. While the internet CAN influence their child to do bad things, it’s still the child’s fault for doing those things. I know blaming the internet for what happened to their child makes dealing with that pain a lot easier, but they’re going to have to face the reality that it’s their fault for not monitoring their child’s internet activity sooner or later.

but you can't be sitting beside them 24/7 and if they are determined (especially the teens) they will find a way, at a friends place, at the library, etc. I would be inclined to be taking them to a doctor when they notice 'dark' changes in the kids. I feel like there were other issues in these cases. The oxygen deprivation challenges existed before TikTok - I heard of them (and tried them) in the 90s. I feel like a lack of education combined with the glorification provided by the internet was a recipe for disaster. Honestly, 8 and 9 year olds have no business being on TikTok and other social media without frequent monitoring and conversations about what is seen. The one with the guns is either pre-meditated or stems from a lack of proper gun handling. First rule: NEVER point it at anything you don’t intend to destroy. They broke this first rule - that reflects on their lack of awareness or total disregard for firearm safety (another argument for requiring gun safety exams before allowing some of these weapons to be purchased). The chip one is also a stretch - yes, the chip was spicy, but would it have been an issue if he didn’t have cardiomegaly? That is like someone going on a roller coaster with a heart condition. We can’t totally blame the roller coaster or theme park for any problems that come from it. Really, when it comes to the children, parents need to be more involved in monitoring and discussing what is seen. For the adults, they should have known better & their lapse in judgement is not the fault of the internet.

No it hasn't. It only allowed people to meet and listen to each other. That includes idiots. It's merely exposed the societal rot and gave it an audience. Everyone wants to blame everything but, the humanity that has always had problems. It only seems worse now because, now we know how bad the problem is.

Easy to call them names but we’re talking about children here. I sure as hell did moronic stuff as a teen, and that was a few years before social media was even a thing. I don’t envy the pressures faced by today’s youth growing up in this insane world (having never even known life pre-internet😢 I mean that’s honestly tragic). I’m just saying that while agree with you that following a dangerous internet trend is stupid, MOST of us do shit when we’re young that we know damn well we shouldn’t do- we do it for all kinds of lame reasons and sometimes we may not even know or care what those reasons are. Looking back in our 20’s, 30’s, or beyond, it finally registers that we’re lucky to be alive. And at the same time many of us had friends or family members that weren’t so lucky. Why cause their loved ones more pain by making fun of them for making a bad choice? Teenagers literally don’t have fully developed brains. I think that’s a pretty reasonable excuse, don’t you? They paid the ultimate price. I just hope other young people will hear their stories and think a little harder before doing the same thing (but again, I did plenty of stuff I knew better than to do😣 Those years are crazy).

These social media trends (blue whale challenge, one chip challenge, blackout challenge, Benadryl challenge, etc) are extremely dangerous and should be banned, imo. Parents, PLEASE monitor your child’s internet activity! It’s for their safety! If you notice changes in their behavior, or if they mention wanting to try one of these “harmless” challenges, take away their tech and have a serious conversation with them. If that doesn’t work, take them to a medical professional who can talk to them and try to explain to them how dangerous these challenges really are. I would never do the one chip challenge because I’m extremely sensitive to spicy food. In fact, I can’t eat spicy food at all because I’m THAT sensitive to it.

im a 42 yo woman and i take Benadryl often for my allergies. I can only take 3 at a time before im knocked out... why would ANYONE take 12... thats INSANE. When i was in HS in the late 90s we first heard and did the "Black out challenge" back then you did it pairs. I wont go into details about how you do it but you only pass out for a few seconds then you're back up.. tho to the one that's out it feels like a nice long nap. I did it to a girl at the bus stop that lived in our neighborhood, she was in middle school and i ended up getting suspended for 10 days. First thing i ever did that landed me in trouble. (I was a good egg) One of the other kids at the bus stop went and told on me. No one was harmed but i guess she thought i should have gotten in trouble for doing it. I never did it again. Using a LEASH to do it to yourself... you're just strangling yourself. Poor child. I have a 9yo and this hurts my heart to hear. I would be devastated if this was my little girl.

TikTok is R13 which in my opinion should be R18 however those sweet little girls were both quite a bit younger than 13. I don’t take away the tragedy of their deaths but come on parents how were they even able to see these stupid trends, they were obviously on TikTok with no supervision 😢

Someone rubbed one of the hot chips on the chin straps and forehead pads of under classmens helmets, our son said half his face was numb all practice but he didn’t want to get anyone in trouble despite most of the younger kids having it done to their helmets. They don’t believe it was an upperclassman though or any sort of hazing, just someone’s stupid choice.

Basically, the US needs to ban internet for american kids the same way they did Kinder Surprise Eggs and 99% of these "trends" and "challenges" would never take off. Then the only challenge would be the one for their life givers to raise their kids like "parents" should.

I have horrible allergies. Prescription Rxs cause bad reactions. I take up to 10-15 Benadryl/antihistamines a day. I’m tired all day long, so I can’t imagine taking them all at once. We did a version of the black out challenge, way before Tik Tok, etc. But we never did it alone.

There should be a age limit to own a phone or gaming device. They are destroying our youth and really should be banned from society completely

My daughter lost a friend from school and we think it was to the breathless challenge. He accidentally hung himself. I never wanted her to know how he died. A lady whose daughter goes to their school came into the beauty salon where we were getting ready for the beauty pageant where they were raising money for his family. She just wanted to gossip about it. She told my daughter and when my daughter screamed and cried she wanted to keep talking. Read the room! I was raised never to discuss the method of suicide. You could unknowingly give someone ideas. Not to mention that’s not as important as how they lived.

Video games do not cause mental issues. Nor does music, films or board games. Perhaps a focus on paying attention to your kids so you can get them help is more effective than blaming their hobbies... which at most are a symptom and not a cause.

Even though smartphones and computers were common for children to have. My children didn’t have access to either while growing up at home. I didn’t even let my children drive until they were 18 years old. None of these things stifled their growth. The internet like television is not how to raise children in my opinion. Plus the cost of smartphones is ridiculous.
@fluffy53029 күн бұрын
It's insane that there are people coercing children to kill themselves. These killers need to be jailed before they go a step further. Children should be allowed to use social media safely. They need actual safe spaces to interact with their peers. The internet is taking over and there is no escape.
@MelGibs-v7j2 сағат бұрын
Parents who give CHILDREN a smartphone should be in prison. You are terrible parents and it’s your fault. You are TERRIBLE people.
@RheverendJАй бұрын
If you’re letting your young kids be on TikTok, you’re a bad parent. Dont blame the challenges for your child’s death. YOU did this by allowing your child access to something they are not mentally/emotionally equipped to enjoy in a healthy, mature way.
