@BrianLevine-q7e10 ай бұрын
@@top.intel0 I saw one in the Auto and Technical Museum in Sinnsheim Germany. They had a huge collection of war machines from the 1880's to 1980's. In the WWII area was a Dodge Command Car. This thing was a beast. Drag a tank and do 50 mph. I believe the 6 wheel truck was also a Dodge. GM seem to have the big truck segment. Try the Museum online. I was told about it when I was visiting Germany many years ago. Small farm town operation. What a collection of stuff. I went back several times. They had an "American" collection that included the original "Bigfoot" monster truck. When the T- Rex came out I thought someone at the company found out about the truck that went through the war.

The Dodge Power Wagon went from the 1940s until at least 1968 in basically its original form because I remember having a piece of 1968 Dodge truck literature from 1968 depicting one as a for sale model. They may not have had big sales numbers, but they were rather steady in sales due to being one of the few 4X4 pickups on the market.

Unless you mean that you saw the same concept prototype that is in this video being trailered to an event or video shoot, which I don't think is what you mean, you would have seen a standard production F series that had a limited release appearance package and relatively minor differences from a Lariat or King Ranch or whatever the marketing team decided to name the fully loaded model. I thought someone had gone to a custom paint shop the first time I saw one in the wild because I knew that the concept did not go into production. My neighbor cried about it almost daily for a year or so. He had decided that it was his dream truck and he was going to be one of the first to buy one if they had been built.

I'd be willing to bet the tandem rear single steer dodge was an unintentionally handicapped design that might have grabbed a certain niche market and had a limited run for a couple of years if not for the driver's license upgrade that any driver would need. For the most part of Canada and the US, it winds up in the same class of any other tandem or tri-drive vehicle that isnt coupled to a trailer. And there are medicals that are required, commercial regulations to follow unless you put 4" not for hire decals on the side and derate the registered gvwr to much less than itis designed to handle so you arent required to stop at scales or maintain logbooks and a bunch of other nonsense. In certain areas with the way things were written, you wouldnt need the commercial license if it had two steer axles up front and a single drive in the back, because they havent updated the regulations from the days before 4x4, 6x6, 8x8, etc and the steer axles arent counted as drives. Its a nightmare trying to sort out the changes from jurisdiction to jurisdiction (Bonus info, the Coachliner style busses you see out on the road are OK for someone with a standard private license to drive in several jurisdictions providing you get the air brake endorsement. They look like they are tandem drive, but the second axle is just a lift axle with single wheels, to manage weight. The catch is you can't take more than 8 or 10 passengers unless you upgraded to a taxi /ambulance/short bus class 4 (where im at) from the non commercial class 5.... then you max at 24 i think.... you have to upgrade to a Class 2 to take a full load of passengers.)
