A lot of folks consider the 1936 Buick Century the first muscle car. They too, the big 320ci straight 8 from the senior series cars and put it in the smaller Special bodies. It was called Century as it could easily break 100mph which in the middle 30's was something for a mass market car. Those OHV Buick straight 8's were really a great engine.

Great list although I would add a few of my faves: The 1957 Chrysler 300B equipped with a 355-horsepower, 354 c.i.d dual-carburetored engine had a top speed of 140 mph. The 1957 Bel Air Chevrolet with the first ever fuel injected 283 cu in engine fitted with solid lifters, Duntov cam and fuel injection rated at 283 hp had a top speed of 128 mph. The 1958 Chevrolet 315 Delray was equipped with a 315 hp engine and had a 7.2 second zero-to-60 mph time. The 1959 Chevrolet Corvette was equipped with a 270 hp engine and had a 6.6 second zero-to-60 mph time and could run the quarter mile in 15.6 seconds and had a top speed of 124 mph. The 1961 Ford Thunderbird equipped with a 340 HP engine had a top speed of 121 mph. The 1961 Chrysler 300G equipped with a 375 HP engine had a top speed of 131 mph. 1962 C1 Chevy Corvette equipped with a fuel-injected 360 hp engine had a top speed of 142 mph.
