I got myself the Ortho sprayer today! I enjoy my Scott’s 16 since in the neighborhood that I live has a curfew on the use of mowing equipment during the weekend! So, I cannot mow with my Craftsman-Honda self propelled mower only on a narrow daily schedule … so I use the reel mower “on the shade”. But in terms of watering during the dry season in Costa Rica I am going to invest in a couple of water tanks to capture rainfall and save on water. I do have a spreader too! And I love it!

John I have a 12000 sq ft total acreage. . I use back pack sprayer. I am not looking for a golf course. I hate weeds though. As I said before I am bipolar ie both liquids and granular. I my lawn is primary perennial rye with a Tall Fescue. I am incorporating Kentucky Blue Grass in the fall. I want a mixed lawn. my Honda self propel still works. I treat it with kid gloves though. Whenever it dies I will go battery powered.

One note of caution...those inexpensive Scotts reel mowers are fantastic, but if you have thick, thick grass like bermuda it will bounce off the grass at the lowest setting. Got to have something heavier and that spins faster, like a Fiskars ($150-ish), or better yet a Mascot ($300-ish).
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 5 жыл бұрын
+koomo801 you are probably correct, but my grass is full season is thick as hell, I find it cuts best at 1.5”-2” and the barrel doesn’t get bogged down. You’ve got to power through it. The point of all of this is, get one that works for your situation. This works for me, but it’s a tiny KBG lawn!

3:02 how do those orbit sprinklers compare to the melnor hose end sprinklers? I need to buy like 6 sprinklers this year and I'm debating between a few impacts, rotary, or others. Some have multiple patterns and single patterns with less adjustment. I have a 4-way melnor hose timer I'll be using this year. About 10,000 sq ft on a corner lot, not a lot of trees. Any suggestions?
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 5 жыл бұрын
I like the way these adjust, they work really well. They daisy chain together well so if you have good pressure, you can run quite a few.
@DIYDad1
@DIYDad1 5 жыл бұрын
@@Lawncology yeah it would be nice if I can do 2 or 3 off each run then I'll have good coverage for my overseeding reno this year. Going to be doing a ton of work in the early fall so I'll want to be watering a ton then and consistently afterwards once I get my lawn well established the way I want :D 9.5 GPM off my 1/2" hose spigot hopefully that's good enough!

What is the "consensus" in the lawn community about pull type plug aerators? The main reason I ask is if I were to get one, it would have the dual usage of carrying my 10 gallon battery operated hand gun sprayer. I take care of the neighbors lawn so in total I'm dealing with 15K of lawn.
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 5 жыл бұрын
+Gary Wheeler I think you’d have a price of equipment that is rarely used. You wouldn’t aerate as much as you’d spray.

I don't think people need multiple sprayers. My procedure after finishing is to fill 1/4 way, dump, fill 1/4 again, dump, fill maybe 1/8 gallon, close lid, spray out the 1/8 gallon into dirt to clear the lines.

I dont use a hose end sprayer. I use a pump sprayer then run my sprinklers for 2 minutes. should I use a hose end?
@koomo801
@koomo801 5 жыл бұрын
I've found hose end to work better with N-ext products for speed and cleanup...if you spray a little over or under it's no big deal. And the water volume from the hose end is probably equivalent to a few minutes of sprinkler use, depending on your nozzle outputs...all you're trying to do is wet the ground surface so the chemicals can begin working their way into the soil, like wetting a dry sponge before use. But if hose management is a problem then you've got to go with something else. I use a backpack for PGR, preemergents, insecticides, etc....lower chemical volumes and more precision.
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 5 жыл бұрын
+Bird Dog you can go either way, but I like the speed and consistency of the hose end for larger areas.

+lambert1702 19” of water, mostly through snowfall. We have very very low moisture snow, the ski resorts across from my house get 350” average. I would say we’re tracking above that this year as snowpack is still in the 100’s of percents all over the state and it has just finally stopped raining and snowing.

You just said you can do this on any budget. That is not true. That's why I peed on GCI turf had a well put in his yard. the average person does not have enough time to hand water a lawn nor can he afford the water bill at the end of the month . I can go to the upper class sections of town in Charlotte and see these beautiful lawns and they all have sprinkler systems. I live in the ghetto and still try to keep my yard right but I can't do it. The water bill kills me.

Dude I like you a lot but I don't know what you are trying to do. I don't know if you're like a guy riding around with a mule pulling a car selling Geritol for rheumatism or what you are doing but it takes you too long to get to the f****** point. I've got two boxes full of crap from the lawn care nut and have no idea when and what amount to put out. I'll listen to Pete on GCI turf I put out tenacity to kill some weeds and I kill my entire lawn everybody around here has a good looking loan but me and I have all your products. It is getting to the temperature in North Carolina where I can aerate and overseed. I have a hard clay base in my yard which is better now and I can't display RGS in air eight on it because it will run off. So when I get it aerated when it gets damp enough to pull some plugs up that's when I plan to put down the compaction package to get it rapidly into the soil but I just wonder if it will interfere with the germination of the seed if I do it all at the same time which I plan on doing
