I only eat at 9-10 pm once everyday except sunday. On sunday I do not eat anything at all. For 10 months now without exceptions, for 3 years with some exceptions. They have been days I skipped eating because I was not hungry at all. It has been awe inspiring for me. I have heart disease and 3 years ago half of my heart died. We have 3 main arteries pumping blood one of them was completely blocked and they couldnt open it. I was not able to walk 200m without stopping for a minute. After 3 years I run 100m on 13 seconds and at the end I am not breatless at the end. All I did was stop eating all the time and completely quitting sugar. Not 1 gram of carbohydrates enter my body. Now I am able to lift 19lt water bottles with one hand. Fast and cut sugar. Doctors said I wouldnt last 2 years. I am still kicking.

So I've maintained the schedule of only letting myself eat between 3pm to 7pm, giving myself a "cheat day" twice a week. During that time I haven't lost anymore significant weight. Right now sitting around 184 but my frame seems to be shaping up nicely. I haven't added any weight training as of yet, my job keeps me moving and I'm breaking down pallets of goods that weigh between 20 maybe 40 pounds (not doing that all the time). Energy levels still feel good throughout all this. EDIT: And no, I haven't consumed any alcohol. Been dry since last Sept.

With my work (pilot) I travel across multiple timezones every day: it wouldn’t be unusual to go from Paris to Los Angeles, spend 15 hours in LA then fly to Tokyo, spend 24 hours in Tokyo then fly to New York. I find fasting the best way to regulate and manage the huge time zone shifts. As long as I keep an 8 hour eating window it doesn’t really matter what the fasting period is; going west it might be as much as 24 hours, going east it may be as little as 9. But it undoubtedly helps with sleep and evens out my energy levels.

I do the same. No light headedness at all. The main barrier is the habit of eating, but it’s really easy once I’ve made the decision. I think the few months I was keto gave me the metabolic flexibility to burn fat easily (if I’d tried it before that I’d have been really hangry). I also find exercise helps suppress any hunger.

Same. I am 60 and since going Keto and OMAD on Jan 4th of this year I have lost 58 pounds, from 244 to 186. I have not been this weight since I was 19 years old. I started walking 5 to 10K at least every other day and doing weights about 3 days a week. I did not start the exercise until I had lost 20 pounds and already had amazing improvements in every aspect of my health. Stopped BP meds that I had been on for over 10 years. I started the exercise not only because I knew it was good but it was easy because I had SO MUCH ENERGY! Words cannot try day explain how good I feel and how much this has changed my life. I am hooked for life. I had already figured out the changing when you eat bit he talks about here. Today for instance, only the second time in 5 month I have ate 3 meals in one day. I am coming off the OMAD every day and doing IF/OMAD/2 Meals/3 meals and no fasting now because I am approaching my weight goal. I did a couple 72 hour water fasts also. I will couple to do that periodically and once or twice I year do a 7 day water fast. I have maintained a no sugar and only carbs from proper veggies throughout and will continue for life.

You discussed that eating one meal a day increases health regardless of what you are eating. Sumo wrestlers have been doing this for centuries. Basically because you are eating all your calories in a very short period of time, the fat does not collect around heart and in muscle. It basically collects on surface under skin thus reducing the bad effects of being over weight.
@mikewalkow1860
@mikewalkow1860 Жыл бұрын
Using Sumo Wrestlers as an example of health, now that's funny. And there's no evidence for what you say.
@Petro00D
@Petro00D Жыл бұрын
@@mikewalkow1860 Yes, there is evidence. There is a show called the Science of Obesity that played on the Discovery channel. Basically there are two ways in which the body stores fat, visceral fat and subcutaneous fat. When you see a beef steak and see the fat between the meat, that is visceral fat. It is unhealthy because it is in the muscle and also around the heart. Subcutaneous fat is fat stored between the muscle and the skin and does not present the same health issues as visceral fat. Sumo Wrestlers fast all day and consume their calories in around a 4 hour period. Their workout are quite extensive. When they eat their meals, which is a extremely large calorie count(20,000 aprx), the body is unable to quickly store the calories as visceral fat so stores it as subcutaneous fat. I am not a doctor or in the health business so anyone who is please correct me if I am wrong.

Key points: 1. Research into fasting has shown a significant influence on our clock genes, according to a study published in BMC Genomics in 2018. It was observed that the time of day we fast influences more than 367 genes. 2. Other research has shown that fasting prepares the body to receive food, which could explain why people sleep better, respond better to food, and lose weight when they fast. 3. One of the major advances in fasting research is linked to the discovery of the beneficial effects of fasting on brown adipose tissue, which is metabolically active fatty tissue that dissipates calories in the form of heat. 4. In 2021, a rodent study revealed that intermittent fasting can improve metabolic function by increasing brown adipose tissue, even in obese subjects. 5. Fasting research has also highlighted cognitive benefits, including improved memory and reduced risk of neurodegenerative diseases. 6. Research has also shown improved neural network stability, which may explain why we feel more alert when we fast. 7. In terms of longevity, a 2019 study showed that mice who ate just one meal a day lived significantly longer, regardless of the type of food they ate. 8. Another human study showed that fasting, particularly Early Time-Restricted Feeding (ETRF) fasting, significantly reduced glucose levels and increased the expression of genes linked to longevity and autophagy. 9. In conclusion, research suggests that fasting has health benefits, including improved metabolic response, cognitive benefits, and longevity. It is therefore recommended to try different forms of fasting, including intermittent fasting and ETRF-type fasting.

One of the things I've noticed about intermittent fasting is my sleep is improving. I'm sleeping longer and better. This may also be due to my going low carb, it seems when I'm doing a 16:8 fast with low carbs, I sleep through the night with fewer disruptions and feel more rested when I wake. When I go into carb overload or drink alcohol I have unpleasant dreams, not quite nightmares, but not comforting, and more sleep disruption.

I'm sorry Melissa, but anorexia has nothing to do with fasting, and never did. Anorexia is a mental health disorder focusing on body dismorohia, with the result of damaging the body and organs through malnourishment. Fasting is a health way of nourishing the body and organs through feeding with time intervals.

Been fasting for exactly 5 weeks today without any deviation. My first meal is around 1:30pm. I finish dinner/supper around 7:30-8pm (wish I could eat supper sooner but my lifestyle simply doesn't allow it). I almost NEVER snack now. I am using my Bowflex 4 days/week and also running 3x/week. Not doing keto but I have significantly reduced my carb and sugar intake. I've lost 20 lbs since February (started the workout routine way before I started doing fasting. The weight really started coming off faster once I implemented that). My mind/focus/concentration is better as well is my sleep. I wish the MSM would get the word out about this. WAY more people (especially in the USA) need to be doing this. Oh and I jumped right into this 16:8 fasting/time restricted feeding. If I can do it anyone can. First 3 weeks was the hardest but now.....pffftttt.......absolutely no issue at ALL waiting so long to eat every day.

I have tried all types of “fasting”....I put quotes around it because I know many of what I am about to say isn’t really “fasting”...it’s a mono diet. A. 72 hour water fast: hour 12 - 36 can be tough. Last 36 pleasant. Insomnia is a side effect . Sleep is deeper. As you get older hydration becomes more challenging. Have to force myself. B. 36-72 hour beef bone broth fast: or a liquid fast. You can usually work during this as the fats give you energy. Great poops after. I mean like poops I had as a kid kind of poops. C. 47 day grape fast: that was my longest. Done every other kind of time. I’m not sure what it about a grape fast but so long as you can constantly graze, you aren’t hungry. (Fructose?) (Resversatol?) I was actually swimming a mile 5 days a week. Ate maybe 2-3 bags of grapes a day. Energy was through the roof, dare I say almost euphoric. Insomnia just like water fasts. Hydration became a problem..no sodium to retain water I guess. , libido dropped to zero (no fats for hormones?). D. Potato fast: I lasted 12 hours on this one. Felt miserable, lol. Sorry Penn the magician. E. Intermittent fast: probably the most challenging working healthcare and our crazy ass schedules. I feel 12-8 feels more inviting but honestly 8-4 is better. I mostly work swing shift with an occasional overnight and call. I’m jealous of people with normal schedules. I have never ritualized any of the above because of my schedule.

I'd preach fasting as a religion if I could. But I do think people get too focused on the science and over complicate the process. Just eat a few meals per day in a time restricted eating window, and then if you want to dial it up, throw in a 24-48hr fast 1-2x per month.

If I'm already in ketosis for 1 1/2 yrs and I do a 3 day fast I found I didn't have to do any easing into my meals. I just started eating again as normal and didn't have any issues of too much too fast after fasting. Why is that? Is it because I was already accustomed to ketosis and also utilizing protein as a source of energy with my Carnivore Diet rather than my former vegetarian diet (was a vegetarian for 32 years with a lot of issues) that had too many carbs? Thanks for another great video I subscribed long ago and many likes too.

You need to do it very gradiently. Start eating only 2 meals a day. When you are comfortable with that do one meal a day a couple of times a week. When you are able to do that do a 24 hours fast. And so on. Within a year I went from increasing my fasting window from 20 hours to 44. I did it very slowly as I was having a hard time. Now I can fast without headaches dizziness or nausea. I still get hungry but it s bearable and it goes away. Last but not least take a bit of salt with water while fasting. You need it to keep your electrolytes balanced.

Saw an interview the the Sauk panda guy who is closely related with circadian genes and he was not in favor of moving your fasting times around. These gene like a sun rise and first meal that happens pretty much the same time every day. Moving your meals like getting up late on the weekends screws up the benefits. You are basically giving these genes jet lag. Move meals slowly to follow the sun or not at all.

I think teaching kids to not eat after dinner (6:00) until breakfast the next morning (7:00) which would be a 13 hour fast makes a lot of sense and mimics how people used to eat even 10-20 years ago. So, in a way, they’re “fasting” but in a natural way. And teach them to eat a good breakfast, lunch, and dinner with no snacks in between. Those are good “fasting” habits.

speaking of fasting, can you cover ways to prevent [non diabetic] ketoacidosis caused by keto diet / fasting, by covering what causes it? (out of control ketone production / disposal, for example) it might not be common enough to be an issue, but it is for me. to stress the point (not asking advice), i can do 24 hr fasts morning to morning, but if i do 24 hr fasts evening to evening the next day, especially if i continue passed 24 hrs, i have a hard time breathing, cant yawn, and my electrolytes drop off to the point of heart arrhythmia. it takes me days to recover. this never used to happen.
