My two brothers have Type 2 diabetes and my grandma died of Type 2 diabetes. 3 & 1/2 years ago, my A1C # was 6.1, prediabetic and my doctor asked me to take a medication. I found Dr. Fung's seminar video and started 16-hour intermittent diet. My A1C # went down to 5.8 in a year and now is 5.6, completely normal. My doctor was so surprised and asked me how I did it. Now I am not hungry at all from 7PM to 12:30PM next day and eat a brunch. My brain is sharper than ever during the time and I have more energy than ever. I'm the ONLY one in my family not diabetic and not on a medication. I cannot thank Dr. Fung enough by any words.

@@marianaavilatemu253 When fasting I just drink water and also sprinkle some salt on my hand and eat the salt. To make up for salt lost thru sweat.. when fasting you need more water because its used in moving the fat. Coffee is a diuretic , meaning it makes you wee out water. ..if you normally have one or two coffees a day then have at least one a day while fasting.. you dont want to go thru coffee withdrawal, this takes up to 3 days to kick in. IF its going to happen. God bless.

Juliette, it's more important how you END any fast. Also strength training long term is a requirement. Majority of meals should have mostly protein & fresh whole food veggies/dark greens/beans/seeds, some fruit in season. Minimal processed machine-made carbs& sweeteners etc.

@BlackCat-fg2zw 13 сағат бұрын
You can try fasting like Muslims, not eating and drinking water from dawn until sunset. It really helped me lose weight quickly, and makes your body full faster when meal time arrives. You can only eat food at night, when it's dark. The result is that you won't eat too many snacks, and make your stomach full with your meal. Don't forget to eat a balanced diet, which contains carbohydrates, protein, vegetables and fruit .If you eat watermelon and drink enough water it will help you not feel thirsty during fasting .

A plastic surgeon I spoke with in 2018, who refused to do liposuction on me, said search for Dr. Jason Fung. Read his book. Here in Manila, I just couldn’t find his book in 2018. Then I started seeing him on my feed during the pandemic, and he saved me from rolling over to diabetes. Therefore, alternate fast on Mon, Wed, Fri, n u will have three 36hr fasts in a week. Supposedly, u need to vary the fasting, so that u stress n challenge the body a bit. This also avoids nutritional shortfall n plateaus. Some youtubers or studies( I forgot) say that entirely cutting out carbs, may cause body to not know how to process carbs in a stable way. So for me, cheat days are necessary, so that I don't over-do certain things, n it provides relief for social life n cravings. But remember the calories in n out theory still applies, so don't overeat too much, or too many times during the cheat period.

For years I've expresses to my various doctors that there's something wrong with my body chemistry, that there's something I HAVE NO CONTROL over.... met with BLANK STARE. I'm 62, and last February I went low carb. I've gone from A1C of 12.8 to 5.6 in 11 months. I've lost 85 pounds. I don't think even as I child I felt so healthy. I love your story, that as a practicing nephrologist, you tired of helping people through their dying of kidney disease. Everything about my labs are now described as optimal. Thank you! @@ruthmwagner1729Intermittent fasting has been around a lot longer than that. For some people, the awareness began after Mark Mattson’s research; that led to James Johnson’s book then Krista Varady. However, I can point to a book published in the 1960s that clearly outlines OMAD for the sicker and alternate day fasting as a recommendation for most people. Fung, and the rise of social media, has been much more effective at spreading the message.

Now I'm steady at 72-74 kg, I can easily manage a 5 mile walk without knee pain and my glucose levels are normal. In addition, I sleep better and my attention/concentration levels are much improved too. I honestly think if I had not followed his advice they would have buried me at least 3 years ago.

It really blew my mind how easy it is to eat 1 meal a day. Did it for 3 days drank plenty of water. First day is awful, lots of hunger pangs around the time I’d eat and snack. The next day, no hunger throughout the day, but my head would turn to food at certain “feeding” times or when I was bored or stressed. Next day, nada, wasn’t even thinking about dinner. Was down 4 pounds, not dehydrated. If anything I drank more water.

The principles Dr. Fung is talking about ( GLPs, hunger , diabetes, insulin and other hormonal responses) are some of the key concepts of medicine and physiology, yet, many so-called specialist tend to forget or act on these information with little common sense ... In here , Dr. Fung has made the literal opposite; talk common sense based in a strong medical foundation. Congrats.

I love Dr Fung - he has literally saved my life. I found him in October 2023 and started intermittent fasting - I eat in a 5 hour window- sometimes I fast for 23 hours out of 24 because I'm just not hungry. December 2022 my health was so bad that the Emergency Dept decided that I was not for resuscitation. January 2024 I was admitted to hospital again for a non obesity reason and my blood pressure is down (meds halved), off of insulin (still on meds), my fast heartbeat is much better (meds halved) and down by 10kg. My joints are much better, my body is generally less inflamed and I am gaining my health back. I also found Dr Ken Berry in November 2023 I mainly do carnivore or ketovore as my body and brain likes it. This year hopefully I will loose more weight but more importantly I will be gaining my life back.

@@findingtifa hunger can be due to several things. 1. sometimes the hunger is really about thirst and needing water. 2. I was hungry all my life. I'd eat to a feeling of fullness, but would still feel hungry. Gurus said, eat more fiber. I did. I'd get a sense of fullness, but I was still hungry. It wasn't until i got more fat in my diet (I tried keto) that I finally got satiation and NO hunger! It was so wierd to not have hunger for the first time in my life. The fat-based hormones were not getting the amount they needed, and once I got enough good fat, things really started to turn around.

So happy to see Dr Jason Fung on here I have to celebrate this man 🎉 he opened my eyes to fasting in 2020 I was 190lbs back then I'm now 110lbs I'm a healthy weight for my height now as I'm only 5ft 1 and 37 yr old female I was obese with alot of belly fat untill I started applying Jason's principles it took roughly 8 months to lose which some may say that's to fast but no my body knew what to do I didn't feel funny or off at all, no low energy in fact I had more energy and it's so easy to maintain, I follow a ketogenic diet mostly this really helps my brain but now and again I have days I'm low carb from whole foods not processed junk, I don't test ketones but when i have ketones in high amounts i can feel it, I eat when im hungry and dont eat if I'm not sometimes I'll go a whole day with out ingesting food which i haven't planned in but if my body's got all it needs I am able to know, which is madness to me its taken some time to get to this point as when i first started I'd plan all my fasts now im just more in tune with my body's signals, my cycle as a female is now regular which has never been the case, I'm so grateful to you and Thank you doesn't seem enough but that's all I can do as I'm in the UK and won't ever meet you Jason so THANK YOU JASON FUNG ❤ keep spreading your truth as it really does change lives 😁 I owe this amazing health i enjoy today to you and your inquisitive mind as a DOCTOR.

Man, this guy just made something click for me. I'm on a weightloss journey and I weigh myself almost daily, my weight loss is pretty slow, but steady, and every now and then I'll have a "cheat meal" within the confines of my calories. The day after my weight drops. I joked about how eating fast food makes me lose weight, but really what I was doing was not eating all day so I could have my calorie surplus later... essentially intermittent fasting.

Interesting! I started to "restrict" myself and fast, lasted years without even me knowing it was a thing (10 years)... Then I started to gain weight if I ever ate a bit more than the routine I had. Turns out I didn't eat enough density . It's not about calories but hunger, so really the feeling of satiety. I've started to lose those 3-4kg by eating MORE of unprocessed food and was feeling NO HUNGER. Beware of the body adapting overtime. Obesity is hormonal, not about calories. You often see obese people going through cycles of eating nothing (shame, fear of food, of fat...) then eating A LOT (can no longer sustain this madness). This disrupt the whole hormonal system. They are hungry because they eat empty calories! You will lose weight by eating things that take up space in the stomach (this triggers satiety hormones which is exactly what ozempic does) and nutritive dense food (so avoid over-processed) each category of food protein/fiber/carbs/dairy...triggers different hormones.

I have impaired metabolism that I’ve been trying to fix. When I put the continuous glucose monitor in my arm and do a 3 day fast, it is so cool to see around the 36hr time range, my body runs out of what ever residual sugar I had, and my blood sugar goes to normal…in the 80s. Otherwise, my baseline is always 120 never below. The first time fasting multiple days is hard mentally because you are so used to eating as a ritual, but you feel so good towards the end. After that you’ll want to do it again. Mental clarity, more energy, little or no food cravings. However, I did do a carnivore diet first to get rid of my carb addition and cravings. I think that helped.

Makes sense! I was the most active kid and ate pretty healthy but was a chubby kid. My lazy friends who ate chips and soda were thin. Difference is since I was chubby I got put into this dieting system of countless tiny meals and low calories high carb snacks per day. Whereas my thin friends would naturally be fasting without thinking about it even though they were lazy and didn’t eat as healthy. What needed to happen was low carb and especially no snacking! I spend my life dieting and getting bigger! Now I’m low carb and fasting! I lost 60lbs so far. 🙏🏻 my journey is one of trying to be fit and healthy my entire life only to end up obese and hopeless. It made no sense to me for so long! Most thin people even if they eat junk and lazy are living a feast and famine lifestyle. Whereas I was eating “healthy” but too many carbs and too frequently. Note: and when I did low carb diet on my journey early on I would be criticized and told it was an unhealthy fad diet. Or I’d ruin my metabolism when fasting. So I’d quit🙄 Thank goodness the truth is out!

For the first time in my life I actually understood why I eat really less than my mother or husband but I am way overweight than them. I even weigh more than my husband. Thanks Dr. Fung. Now I know what to do.

I started fasting after watching your interview with Dr. Mindy Pelz last year and I lost 27 pounds in my weight loss Journey. I actually stumbled on your youtube channel by accident, and till now I remember how great I felt. Fast forward I have been following since, and there was a point where I gained the weight back. I had a crazy schedule and was a caretaker for my Father... so I didn't sleep well, a lot of late night snacks. I had other weight loss offers and for some reason couldn't get myself to fast like I used to. I'm on the youtube looking for ways to loose weight again, and stumbled upon Doctor jason Fungs video... on the side I couldn't believe that he was interviewed by you, so you know I had to click it. I have confirmed again, that this is the best thing for me to get on right now. It makes total sense. Yes, I will be forever grateful for these individuals and also to you for bringing these subjects to light. Wish me luck on my weight loss journey continued... Fasting Day 1. today and starting fresh again. Thank you!!!

Hormones are key! I gained 10 lbs out of nowhere. Could not lose it no matter what I did. Started having all these weird reproductive problems and went to ob/gyn. They prescribed progesterone and in three weeks, I had dropped 15 lbs. I had no clue the power of hormone balance until it happened to me. I had fasted for years but it unfortunately did not help once my progesterone plummeted. I had to have hormone supplementation. Really love Diary of CEO and every guest has value. ❤

Read the book 'fast like a girl'. WHEN you fast through your menstrual cycle is critical to avoid stuffing your hormones. Most fasting info comes from men, we can't fast the same way because of our hormones.

This honestly make me want to cry. I have been trying to lose weight for decades with little to no success. I am a person who naturally doesn't eat until around 3:00-5:00 for the day and usually that's it for the day but I rarely lose weight. I just can't understand how Ozempic or gastric sleeve/ bypass makes people eat less therefore causing them to lose weight & like I said I pretty much eat once a day but don't lose anything. I guess it's the refined foods are the problem 🤷🏽‍♀️ I'm going to work on eating better food options along side with consistent IF & I pray it helps me. I'm so sick of being fat like I eat all day when I dont😢 This is great info. Thank you

I was diagnosed 91 days ago today with diabities..I was 12.5 Because of Jason Fung including the book " Diabities Code". Im down to 7. I cut out ALL sugar and eat max 30 gms of carbs or less a day. I fast 16/8 every day but 22hrs once or twice a week. I have a long way to go to get down to 5.4. But in 3 months I have come far. I dont snack and dont get hungry. I actually have to say "its time to eat". Cutting sugar and carbs with fasting stops hunger. I cant get enough of Jason Fung's knowlege. Listening to him helps me stop getting down about the corrupt food industry. The doctor I had said take Metphormin and exercise then sent me away.Hope less advice. Now he knows from my urine test that im fasting because it had ketones in it. My doctor knew what fasting was and gave me no advice. We cant sue the industry because they put a clause in saying its up to the person what they choose. The diabetes association are literally killing people. I only have faith in Dr Lustig and Dr Fung. Does anyone reading this comment know other doctors on the same path?
